1st group = LT Sims, LG Gallery, C Grove, RG Carlisle, RT Green
2nd group = LT McQuistan, LG Morris, C Newberry, RG Boothe, RT Henderson
Gallery at guard was what I wanted to see and I think he did well there with help on both sides. Green at the other tackle may need some work. The 2nd unit entered the game midway through the 2nd Q and played just about all of the snaps the rest of the way. Late in the game, I believe I saw McQuistan getting some work at guard and Henderson flipping sides to see time at LT.
Overall a much better look than last season. As a group, they looked more aggressive when running the ball - quick backside cutting and a good on-side push. Much of the pass blocking was in front of short drops or rolls ... it's amazing how good your o-line can look when you eliminate the 9-step drop from your playbook.
What you have looks good. To clarify, Whittle is the interior line backup and Pennington is the backup at both T positions. However, the right side of the line is currently unsettled, particularly at RG, where Preston and Whittle alternated during OTAs.
Jason Peters-Derrick Dockery-Melvin Fowler-Brad Butler-Langston Walker
Top B/Us: T:Kirk Chambers, G/C: Jason Whittle, Duke Preston
So Brad Butler, a former college (UVA) tackle and 2006 5th round draft pick, ended up winning the starting RG job. This is potentially good news, as Preston was definitely a weak link on the line. Also, in a surprise move, Terence Pennington, the starter at RT for the last half of the 2006 season, was cut in favor of Kirk Chambers.
