Homlgren confirms Engram & Branch expected back week 5 (1 Viewer)

With this news, is Hasselbeck back to his usual top 10 QB the rest of the season?

Coach Mike Holmgren confirmed in his post-game press conference Sunday that he expects both Bobby Engram (shoulder) and Deion Branch (knee) to rejoin the lineup after the Seahawks' Week 4 bye. Both should be grabbed in fantasy leagues. Branch, who's been practicing, seems certain to immediately enter the starting lineup at flanker. Engram could move right into the slot. Koren Robinson and Sunday's leading receiver, Billy McMullen, are candidates to start at split end. Rookie Michael Bumpus and Samie Parker could be deemed expendable. Source: Tacoma News Tribune
I gotta ask. What was the date on that snippet? Parker was released more than a week ago.
The quote was from after tonights game. Rotoworld must have made a mistake re. Samie Parker.
They were probably mistaking Parker for another career under achiever who came over from Denver, Kerry Colbert.

With those 2 back I'm wonder what will happen with TE Carlson?

If Engram's back, would you agree that Engram > V Jackson the rest of the way in a PPR league?
I would definitely agree with that assessment. Engram is clearly Hass' favorite target; whereas VJax simply doesn't command the ball, plus there's too many other weapons for Rivers to utilize.

You guys seem to be focusing a lot on the validity of the roto report and whether or not engram and/or branch will be playing. Remember they are flying across country and playing against a top 10 pass defense team, oh and the superbowl champs. They are also playing after a bye, in which the seahawks tend to struggle. I wouldn't expect much out of who ever is playing WR whether its one of our Vet's that will be in preseason form or a rookie. The outlook is not good for that game. Seattle has a brutal schedule coming up for the next 6 games. They get 4 of 6 on the road, they get to fly to florida twice, and NY once. Their home "layovers" are against GB and Philly. As a Seahawks fan, I like the optimism coming from this thread, but I'd proceed carefully with any of these guys.

Agreed although I am trying to figure Engram vs K Curtis. One has to think DeSean (sp) taking balls and McNabbs potential for injury would make Engram the pick.

UPDATE

Hasselbeck gets receivers Branch, Engram back

Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck has been throwing to a couple of new receivers in informal bye week practices - Bobby Engram and Deion Branch.

It's a kind of birthday gift Thursday for Hasselbeck who turned 33 on Thursday, "It was fun throwing to them all week, it really was. Deion is faster than I've ever seen him."

Engram has been out with a broken shoulder since the first preseason game in early August. Branch is coming back from knee surgery and hasn't played since January's playoff loss at Green Bay.
You can listen to Hasselbeck's show from the radio here.

I see this as VERY encouraging. To be honest, I haven't been expecting Branch to be fully ready. If he is, I won't be shocked to see him slip into the #1 role right away as the flanker. Somehow, I have my doubts it happens. Time will tell.

Thanks for that link. I've got both Branch and Engram in various leagues but I've just assumed Engrams injury was the easy one to recover from and Branch might take longer if he's even effective at all. I found it extremely surprising to hear Hasselbeck say not only is Branch looking faster than ever but even more surprised to hear him say Engrams injury is more difficult to over come.

Agreed. I wasn't expecting to hear that either. However, Engram's window for return was 6-8 weeks. I believe that the week 5 game in NY would be right on the edge of 6 weeks. I might be wrong on the time frame there.

6 weeks would have been week 3. Week 5 is 8 weeks.

Look back at Branch's game log for games he wasn't injured and you can see that he could be a really nice asset.

Engram was just as good and more consistent.Link
I can't disagree with the numbers, but I can certainly give a logical explanation for it. Both Hackett and Branch were missing time allowing Engram to reap the benefits of all those extra targets.
With both guys back and healthy I still think I'd lean toward Engram, especially in ppr.

To be clear, for me it doesn't have to do with talent as much as it does opportunity. The flanker in this offense is the guy I want. If Branch isn't ready to go, Engram will be the man. But if Branch is healthy, he's the guy I plan on starting (I've got them both two leagues. Just waiting on one to get healthy. Ugh.)

I'd love to hear more details on this, but from what I've read, I'm pretty persuaded by the notion that the guy to lean toward is whomever is playing flanker in that SEA offense. And I believe Branch figures to be that guy. After seeing that Hasselbeck blurb, I'm even more optimistic on Branch... almost certainly too much so.

I understand this feeling. I'm really worried he'll continue to disappoint. Fans up here near Seattle are on the edge of mutiny if he doesn't perform at a high level at some point this year. GM Ruskell will take a lot of heat if Branch doesn't work out as a play maker after giving up the first rounder to NE.
