He practiced fully weds, thurs, and friday with no issues whatsoever. I wouldnt worry about it.

Going to the opener against the JETS today. Let's go Texans!
I would love to experience the Reliant Stadium for a Texans game but I think I like the home experience too much. Maybe if we have a home game in week 17 i'll try to go. Good luck at the game. :goodposting:

Welcome there is plenty of room at the moment.
Jump right back off until further notice. the worst non-Carr era game I can remember. Praying this is not 2005 all over again.
 My rectum hurts after that game.

I'm kind of glad I didn't renew my season tickets this year, I can't stand our fans. Booing in the 2nd quarter, people chanting for Rex in the middle of 3rd. On the 4th down attempt everyone in the stadium yelling "go for it" and then they scream louder than they have for the whole game when the opposing teams Offense was on the field. Was it a big surprise that they weren't able to get the play off with the stadium so loud?I realize they haven't had much to cheer for over the years and the whole team played like poo, but there was a lot of just poor behavior.

There was not much positive to take away from this game, but I will try.

I thought the d'line played well on first and 2nd down and was solid stopping the run until late in the game when I assume they were tired out. Mario was Mario, he's a one man wrecking crew but he's still on an island out there. Cushing looks like the real deal, I saw him bring the lumber and just destroy some guys on hits and he's also got the speed to get some penetration. For those watching at home, probably the most obvious instance was when he stopped Leon Washington on the 1 on the direct snap play.

Other than that, everything else was :goodposting: The o'line looked like a wet paper bag, Schaub looked shellshocked, and the receivers didn't do him many favors as I saw a number of catchable balls dropped. We committed yet another redzone turnover (our achilles heel last year) with Slaton's fumble. The defense played well on 1st and 2nd down but gave up big plays on 3rd down. I think I heard on the radio that the Jets converted 13 3rd & long's, that's just terrible. Our secondary got shredded and I saw quite a few blown assignments/mis-communications. For all the money Dunta wants, he didn't seem worth it yesterday when he missed an easy tackle and gave up a huge play. Stupid penalties on both sides of the ball, poor play calling and no adjustments at halftime to combat a swarming Jets defense. EPIC FAIL.

I shudder to think what TENN will do to us next week.

Good luck the rest of the way!!!!

Texans are one of my favorite Non-Jet teams and with Mario in my Avatar I still wish he fell that year to the Jets pick... I was one of the few that thought Mario over Bush was the perfect call....

i was at the stadium yesterday and wow. that 4th down try was the loudest it had been in the 2nd half minus the INT. i didn't hear the rex chants though. it was painful seeing the interior of our line just getting tossed aside like some JV kids.

yes. This is an offense with elements at all the skill positions and Ol than played every game last year that could not muster any points and very few snaps on the jets side of the 50. With the exception of the Ravens last year, none of the others were surprising results. If anything with a new coach, a rookie QB, and meh overall WR corp, that is a situation that a team taking the next step towards the playoffs would handle, not get manhandled. Right now it is setting up for more of the same. The Texans get themselves into a tough situation early in the year and then figure it out well enough to be around .500.

Tell me about it. I'm going to have to get the friends I take to games to sign a waiver they will not sit there clapping and cheering madly when our offense is on the line and trying to hear the snap count. My buddy who went with me Sunday got a punch in the arm from me on that play.

I wish they'd stop doing the "And that's another Houston Texans' first down" thing. A good first down play gets the crowd giddy enough, there's no reason to give them further excuse to be loud when our offense is on the field.

All too often do I see Schaub trying to get the play from his earpiece and having to squat and cover his ears because the PA and crowd screaming "...Texans' first down!!!!!"

Just because people want to be unclear on Slaton versus Chris Brown. a quote from Kubiak:

http://www.houstontexans.com/news/Story.asp?story_id=5579

on where he sees RB Chris Brown) "Well, I can say we'd love to have Chris come out of a game with 10 or 12 carries all the time for our team, but we haven't been past the 20-carry mark as a football team in a while, so hopefully we're able to run the ball somewhat effectively so we get to see them both."

(on RB Chris Brown's specific role) "Well, I just think he's basically (RB) Steve's (Slaton) backup. In short-yardage, you like his big body. Red zone, you like his big body. But if you're running the ball in this league and you're running it 35 times on a weekend, there's plenty of carries to go around for two guys. So we'd like to be able to play them both and rotate them from that standpoint, but it just hasn't happened."

(on in double-digit carries for RB Chris Brown would mean the team is running the ball well) "If he's carrying it 10 or 12 times, then I bet we're carrying it 35 times, so that's something we'd like to come out of the game with."

If walter and davis are both out who is wr2/wr3?

trying to gauge if I should start schaub or not

thanks

If walter and davis are both out who is wr2/wr3?trying to gauge if I should start schaub or not thanks
Davis is definately out, but Walter practiced all week (not fully) and I would expect him back. If both are out then the pecking order is David Anderson, Jacoby Jones and Glenn Martinez.

I'm coming away from the Texans-Titans game feeling even less confidence in Kubiak than I had before.

He's done a great job getting talent on the team. And yes, they won today. But he makes so many mistakes as a head coach. How can you not have your PAT team waiting at the line for the ball to be spotted on that Jacoby Jones touchdown? The broadcast showed the ball spotted, then cut to Fisher watching the replay on the jumbotron for another 5-7 seconds before finally he throws the red flag. How can they not have the ball snapped the moment it is spotted?

These are the kind of things that Kubiak has consistently gotten wrong, and doesn't seem to be improving at. I don't think he gets out of his talented players what he should. The Texans have been a poor tackling team for their entire history now.

Unless the Texans go deep in the playoffs, I'm not sure that I'd support keeping Kubiak with some of the other options out there. He's just got too many flaws for a head coach. The Texans have a lot of talent so they should be an inviting option for the good coaches who may be looking for work this next year.

Texans left guard Chester Pitts, who has started every game in franchise history, will be placed on injured reserve after undergoing major knee surgery Wednesday and will miss the remainder of the season.

Pitts, who started 114 consecutive games, had two procedures performed on his right knee by Dr. Walter Lowe.

Pitts underwent surgery to repair the meniscus cartilage and also had microfracture surgery to repair the articular cartilage. The damage to his medial collateral ligament will heal on its own.

Pitts was injured in the Texans' 34-31 victory at Tennessee on Sunday.

Kasey Studdard, a three-year veteran from the University of Texas, will replace Pitts in the starting lineup.

Pitts' season-ending surgery means kicker Kris Brown is the last of the original Texans on the 53-man roster.

Pitts, a second-round pick from San Diego State in 2002, is in the last year of his contract and turns 31 next season, which means he might not play again for the Texans.

Both practiced today and Kubiak said that Walter was fine. Of course, take that with a grain of NaCl. Kubiak and the Texans are known for downplaying injuries.
Yeah, Walter was all but the focal point of the offense last week this time. The hamstring is obviously troubling him more than they want to tell us.

Pollard SS signs

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports...nt/6634709.html

The Texans have signed safety Bernard Pollard to replace Chester Pitts on the roster.

Pitts, who underwent major knee surgery on Wednesday, was placed on injured reserve, meaning he's out for the season.

Pollard, 24, was Kansas City's second-round pick in 2006. He started 16 games last season for David Gibbs, who is in his first season as the Texans' secondary coach. Last season, Pollard had 84 unassisted tackles, and he was a surprise cut by the Chiefs in the last roster reduction this season.

Pollard, who is an excellent special teams player, got a lot of attention last season when he hit Tom Brady in the first game of the season, causing the New England quarterback to be lost for the season with a knee injury.

Pollard gives the Texans five safeties, counting Eugene Wilson, John Busing, Dominique Barber and Nick Ferguson

HOUSTON -- Houston Texans receivers Andre Johnson and Jacoby Jones have been fined by the NFL for their roles in a fight during Sunday's 34-31 win over Tennessee.

Johnson was fined $7,500 for unnecessary roughness for taking Tennessee's Cortland Finnegan to the ground by the facemask after the play was over, and Jones was fined $5,000 for entering the fight unnecessarily.

Tennessee's Jason Jones was fined $5,000 for his part in the fight earlier this week. He was ejected from the game after an official said he threw a punch in the altercation on Houston's sideline.

Isn't it a little early for this signing? We don't face Brady until week 17.[/bad humor]

I got to see this one live as a friend gave me two tickets and a parking pass...thanks buddy.
If I'd known you were going to be there I'd have invited you to tailgate with us.
There seems to be a chance that I will get one or two more before the season is out, so i will try to remember to post before hand. this time it was not confirmed until Friday and we left on Saturday morning w/o the laptop so I was making sure all lose ends were tied up and did not think of posting here.

I've noticed a lot of other people seem to be reacting to this game like I have. After seeing the way the first two weeks went, getting my hopes back up after the Titans, only to see this... I'm just numb. It's like I've accepted they are going to do the same thing as in previous years, not play up to their ability, skate in at around .500 where you never know if they'll show up in any given game or not. They'll make dumb mistakes, they won't do what it takes to consistently win the close games that are winnable. And so I just won't let myself get emotionally invested in them because I know how much they're going to let me down. "Oh no, here we go again."

I really hope that doesn't turn out to be the case, but I think the numb feeling about them is going to last for a long time.

too early to jump off the boat. I'd give it to the bye week and evaluate how they are doing.

The guy crying about AJ must have him in fantasy, there are lots of other weapons getting the ball when AJ is covered, offense def. wasn't the problem.

I agree. There are still a lot of winnable games on the schedule so I haven't lost faith yet. (Unfortunately, it's not looking like the cake walk I originally thought it would be though.)Something has to be done about the run defense. We are giving up on average over 200 yards of rushing a game!!! Dead last in the league (and it's not all because of Chris Johnson.) There is no excuse for that.

I think the problem is the lack of a veteran at strong safety. The SS position has burned us 3 times for a big play now. Barber and Busing are too raw, Furgie just sucks. I guess we will have to see how Pollard does. As much as the secondary has been horrible, I think Wilson is solid at free safety. I put most of the worry on Bennett and whoever plays SS.

Going into last offseason the player I most wanted the Texans to draft was Taylor Mays. Granted he's a free safety, though that's sort of moot anyway since he didn't declare for the draft. But yeah, I think our lack of good safety play is one of the bigger problems we have. Though I think our LBs getting caught out of position/not covering their gap is possibly equal in contribution.I really wish we had coach's tape available to the public for viewing. I for one would love to be able to go watch a play from the end zone view that shows the whole field to see what happened. You can only tell so much from the side views offered on TV.

I also agree on the SS front and wonder if that is what is causing us to give up those big plays. I recall that the announcers in the TENN game said CJ3's 69 yard TD reception was due to Ferguson blowing his assignment to cover him when he split out wide. If you take out the big plays (and I know that can skew the stats and isn't a good picture), but the run defense hasn't been too bad on all the other plays:TJ - 39 yarder - 3.58ypc without itCJ3 - 57 & 91 yarder - 3.5ypc without thoseMJD - 61 yarder - 2.64 ypc without it.I honestly have no clue if those numbers give us a better idea of how the defense is playing on the whole, but at least it suggests to me that they have the capability to play solid run defense. Whether it's mental mistakes or maybe the "attacking" scheme by Frank Bush, I'm not sure. But hopefully they can fix whatever is going wrong on those big moments and play a full 4 downs and 4 quarters.

Taylor Mays may or may not develop into a nice talent in the NFL, but I think we would have been in the same position as we are now. Raw guys trying to adjust to the speed of the game. Too much youth might be a problem for us right now.

Texans cornerback Jacques Reeves’ return may have been delayed after he suffered a hand injury early in practice Wednesday.

Reeves, a starting corner last year in his first season with the Texans, broke his leg early in training camp but was expected to play for the first time against Oakland on Sunday. He was sent to the doctor have his hand examined.

The Texans have re-signed linebacker Khary Campbell and placed linebacker Chaun Thompson on injured reserve for the remainder of the season. Thompson hurt his knee in the loss to Jacksonville on Sunday. Campbell is an eight-year veteran who spent the last five seasons with the Washington Redskins before signing with the Texans during training camp. He was among the last players cut.

Tight end Clark Harris was also-resigned as a precaution with deep snapper and backup tight end Joel Dreessen complaining of a sore hip the day after the Jacksonville game. Harris was brought in to be the Texans’ deep snapper for the final four games in 2008, after Bryan Pittman was suspended.
