Houston Texans forever - Metchie fetches TE H. Bryant and pick swap from Philly (5 Viewers)

Wanna play crystal ball?

AZ...this game WILL NOT be easy since Murray returns and you can already see a difference in the team and how they played last week
JAX...it's a tall task to ask for a sweep in Stroud's rookie year but it's possible.
DEN...they're not the same team that got beat 70-20 right now, you don't know what you might have on your hands, their defense has started to come around.

3 straight games at home and I think if you can even go 2-1 over this stretch and get to 7-5 with 5 games left...
worst case 6-6.

at Jets
at Titans
CLE-No Watson, you all must be doing cart wheels, but really you all are moving forward, no looking back, still gotta beat that Defense and that won't be easy
TEN
at Indy

That final 5 game stretch could go many ways. But if you even go 3-2/4-1 over that run, as the team is ascending I might add, that puts you at about 10-7.
Miami looks like they might be the only team in the East, Chiefs in the West, things could change over coming weeks.
Right now you all are in the thick of the WIldcard hunt and possibly the South.
The schedule is favorable if you all want to make a run.
Marino went to the Playoffs his rookie year in '83, it can be done.

You hate to take any pleasure when a team loses a star especially at QB, however...
Forget any personal feelings, strictly business, that's fair I think.

-Houston did trade their 1st in '24 BUT they have the Browns' 1st and granted that pick stands at 24 right now but when they slide from 6-3 to say 8-8, the Texans are gonna come away in all likelihood with a solid player in the 1st and what's stopping them from possibly moving up and becoming a player for a top WR if they choose to do so?

Perryman has been suspended 3 games by the NFL for the hit on Chase. He was previously fined for a hit against the Colts in week 2. He can appeal.

The suspension was reduced to 2 games by the appeal. He'll miss Cardinals and Jaguars games and return for the Broncos.

Damn would have liked to have him for the Jaguars if possible. But, better than 3 games.

Wednesday Noah Brown (knee) missed practice. Demeco said of Noah's availability for the game, "We'll see."

Nico was limited but is expected to play.

“I felt great,” Collins said while wearing his battle red Texans helmet at his locker. “It feels good to be out there and get my groove back.”

Tom Brady to CJ Stroud on podcast: "...So, if Ohio State wins, which I don't really feel is ... whatever. You get one of my Super Bowl rings. And if Michigan beats Ohio State, then you got to give me all your youth, your agility, your time in the 40, and all your future years in the NFL. How about that?"

Don't do it CJ! Brady clearly already won a bet with the devil, just look how he went from this, fifth round pick, to his extra long NFL career, supermodel wife, etc!

Miami shouldn't make the postseason because they can't beat any team .500 or above so for them to get in will need BUF and NYJ to also tank which is possible if they do I will bet the house against them.

Along with Pierce being out, so are To'oTo'o and Jimmie Ward. Noah Brown is questionable and did not practice all week. Will Anderson is listed as questionable.

Anyone have a PFF subscription? How is Christian Harris rating these days? Has he turned things around there? I notice when he shows up but don't go evaluate the plays he didn't to see how he's doing.

Houston’s Week 13 game against the Denver Broncos on Dec. 3 at NRG Stadium was moved from a 3:05 p.m. CT kickoff to noon in order to broadcast the game to a bigger national audience. The Texans and Broncos, both in the AFC playoff chase, enter Week 11 with records of 6-4 and 5-5, respectively, a stark contrast to the eight wins they combined for in 2022.
“It is a little ironic that we’re moving a Texans game into a noon window to try to get it more exposure — it’s usually the other way moving out of noon and into (prime time),” said Mike North, the NFL’s vice president of broadcasting. “In this particular instance given what the Sunday afternoon packages look like that day, we thought this was the right move.”

Moves the game away from San Fran-Philly in the afternoon. Noon doesn't have much. Lions-Saints probably the next best matchup.

Rookie center Juice Scruggs practiced for the first time in three months, after spending time on the injured reserve with a hamstring injury.

He was listed as a full participant in practice on the team’s injury report.

“We’ll see how this week goes for him,” Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said. “But man it’s uplifting and it’s encouraging just to see him back out there.”

Texans wide receiver Noah Brown (knee), safety Jimmie Ward (hamstring) and linebacker Jake Hansen (hamstring) were all ruled out of Sunday’s game

Running back Dameon Pierce, who also hasn’t played in three weeks because of an ankle injury, was listed as questionable after practicing in full, as was rookie center Juice Scruggs, who practiced this week after spending the first three months of the season on the injured reserve.

Texans claimed DE Derrick Barnett off waivers from Philly. Dolphins had also put in a claim. LB Garrett Wallow was released.

They also waived Ammendola after the game yesterday with the two missed long kicks. Not sure if Ka'imi is coming back already or if they will be picking up someone else.

Perryman will be back for next week.

I believe they put Fairbairn on IR so he's not eligible for another 2 games so must be looking at other guys in the meantime.

Going to resign Ammendola.

Dylan Horton is on a personal leave which probably has some to do with claiming Barnett. Though they had wanted him previously, it's said they almost traded for him at the trade deadline.

Different topic. So what looked like an easy schedule to close it out is now half teams in the playoff hunt. Denver 6-5, Cleveland 7-4, Indy 6-5... and then 2x Titans 4-7 and Jets 4-7. Jets is in a week and a half so thankfully not much chance Rodgers comes back in time for it. They need to put it together and have a strong run to close it out. Too many mistakes this last week, and the pass blocking and pass rush both dropped off. They went from a top ten defense in points given off, to dropping to 14th after the last two weeks.

Yeah, didn't like the defense not showing up this past weekend. Worried that they once again could not run the ball too. Thinking Singletary's breakout may have been a just a two week aberration against some bad rush defenses.

I was thinking the same. Denver looked like a gimme and now they're the hottest team in the NFL. Must win game for the Texans. I hope they stomp them comfortably because I can't take too many more of these last second wins and losses.

As I initially feared, Tytus Howard out for the year. Still hate that contract we gave him before the season without proving he could stay healthy.and remain an asset.

Have seen some early mock drafts having us going o’line again, I’d rather help the defense but I can see an argument for trying to find someone else and cut or restructure Howard in ‘25. Contract is even worse now that they appear to have stuck him at guard permanently and not right tackle.

And they say Miami can't beat a team with a winning record, enter the Denver Broncos at 6-5, we all know what happened down at Hark Rock
-Both teams at 6-5 and trying to get into the Playoffs as Wildcards.
This is going to have a playoff level atmosphere like Jax except I think Houston will perform better this week.

It's unreal how Stroud is getting baptism by fire and responding terrifically
The fact is he knocked off Joe Burrow and Cinci on the road, takes down Kyler Murray and then is edged out by JAX.
This game is huge as possibly a playoff tiebreaker with only 5-6 games left for most teams.

-This is essentially a Playoff game for Houston THIS WEEK, Broncos as well and they've been in that mode for weeks climbing out of a big hole to ascend at 6-5.
Good Luck this week, looking forward to watching Stroud and Dell.

You can run the nfl playoff machine and even if Texans lose can still get it. Basically will depend on how the Browns and Colts will do going forward. Also the Texans vs Browns in a few weeks could end up being the deciding game. Of course winning this Sunday will make things easier but won’t be auto out as some think it will be. Ditto for Broncos.

The Texans cut veteran cornerback Shaquill Griffin on Wednesday.

They also signed fellow veteran corner Desmond King II to the 53-man roster from the practice squad.

The team also signed kicker Matt Ammendola and linebacker Garret Wallow to the practice squad after they were cut in the past week.

Noah Brown back practicing.

Schultz missing practice with a hamstring that had limited him against Jacksonville.

Fant missed practice with a hip injury.

Dell missed practice with a calf injury but is expected back.

Texans report: Tank Dell, Jimmie Ward return to practice, but no Dalton Schultz

That means tight end Brevin Jordan and newly signed Eric Saubert will be the featured tight ends if Schultz can’t go. The Texans may need to call up another tight end from the practice squad.

Defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins also did not practice for the second consecutive day with an elbow injury. He worked off to the side with trainers.

Also, returning to practice Thursday were left tackle Laremy Tunsil (knee), right tackle George Fant (hip), defensive tackle Maliek Collins (personal), wide receiver Robert Woods (rest) and safety Jimmie Ward. All were full participants in practice.

Ward hasn’t played in three weeks with a hamstring injury. But Ward is expected to return Sunday

Ammendola signed for the game. Schultz is out.

Heads up for any DTV or ATT subscribers. Contract with KHOU ran out and they are currently not being covered. So either need an over the air attennae or Paramount+ or another way to watch the game. Could do a free trial of YoutubeTV if in a bind. Just has to be aired in your local market.

I’m in Austin so not sure but think this is the national game.

As of today we're still just outside the playoff picture.

One of the issues we might have is the Colts. In a wildcard tiebreak you first resolve separately tied teams from the same divisions. Then remaining teams go on to tiebreak with each other. So if Colts continue to hold tiebreak over us, we wouldn't get into the mix until Colts got a spot.

So hypothetically, tiebreaks could go:
5) Colts vs Steelers (who beat out Browns) - Steelers win.
6) Colts vs Browns - Browns win
7) Colts

Where if we were ahead of the Colts, we'd be the 5th seed for having the tiebreak over the Steelers.

So we really need to beat the Colts the final week. And we need to do well in our remaining division games and hopefully have them lose some as division record is next tiebreak for us.

at Jets
at Titans...after they travel to Hard Rock for a MNF smackdown
CLE...no QB threat
TITANS...they are looking towards 2024
at Indy...could be for a WIldcard spot so the Playoffs start Week 18 for you all

-I'm sick about Tank Dell, had moved Nico off my roster and went all in with him during the season, now I'm without any Houston texans at WR on my rosters, that saddens me.
Good luck over the next 5 weeks, I felt the AZ-JAX-DEN stretch would tell us a lot, they managed to stay on top and the schedule is really soft for them to possibly win out.

I don't think this stretch is going to be easy. The schedule may look soft on paper but the Texans tend to play down to their competition. I really need a few blow outs to keep my sanity but I think we'll have more cardiac kid moments. They're fun to watch though and probably the most entertaining squad in a decade, maybe ever in franchise history. The Dell injury will limit their explosiveness but CJ always seems to find a way.

Couldn't imagine being a playoff contender after the 0-2 start. I almost feel like we're playing with house money but I'm getting greedy now. Playoffs or bust!

tl;dr - Surgery was a success. 6-8 week recovery time, but Texans won't have "return from IR" slots available so he's done for the year even if he'd been able to return for the late playoffs.

Texans rookie wide receiver Tank Dell underwent a successful surgery Monday morning on a fractured left fibula he sustained Sunday in the Texans’ win over the Broncos, a person with knowledge of the situation told the Chronicle.

Dell is expected to make a full recovery.

Texans coach DeMeco Ryans later confirmed the news during his press conference Monday. He added that Dell’s season is over, ending any speculation that he could make a return for a possible Super Bowl run.

A fibula is a bone in the lower leg that extends from the knee to the outside of the ankle parallel to the tibia or shin bone. It stabilizes the ankle and supports lower-leg muscles. Dell's injury is common in the NFL.

Dell suffered the injury on a goal-line running play as he was blocking. Players fell on the back of his leg, causing the injury. He had to be carted off.

The injuries can vary, but as is typical with fractured fibulas, if all goes well, the injury takes about six to eight weeks to heal.

Based on that timeline, Dell could have returned in time for the divisional round of the AFC playoffs, which is the weekend of Jan. 20, or before the Super Bowl on Feb. 11.

“Who knows, man?” quarterback C.J. Stroud said Sunday. “He might be back playing (in the) Super Bowl. Try to be positive about it, but it's tough. I'm hurt. I can't sugarcoat it.”

But Ryans shot that notion down Monday when he expected to get Dell back in time for their offseason program next spring.

“He’s been such an inspiration for our team, just an incredible young man,” Ryans said. “Happy for the season he had as a rookie and the impact he has as a person and a player for our organization.”

One of the issues is the Texans have almost reached the maximum number of players they can return from injured reserve in a given season. Teams are allowed to return only eight players in a season from injured reserve. The Texans have returned seven already.

Kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn is eligible to return off the IR and could return as soon as Sunday against the Jets.

Once that happens, the Texans wouldn’t be able to return any more players from injured reserve. And once the Texans put Dell on IR, his season and postseason are done.

To return him during the playoffs — assuming they return Fairbairn — they’d have to keep Dell on the roster and not put him on the IR. That won’t happen.

It’s safer to just let him rehab his injury and return to full strength next season instead of forcing a return.

Couldn't imagine being a playoff contender after the 0-2 start. I almost feel like we're playing with house money but I'm getting greedy now. Playoffs or bust!

I remember one of the radio hosts (who I don't care much for) going on about how that week 2 game was a must win game. Part of me wants to call in and bust his balls about it since he's a bit of a drama queen, does it thinking it's entertaining. But, that would just be playing into his game so, nah.

But yeah, this has been kind of a dream season with how it's gone compared to what I was expecting. I have seriously considered getting rid of my season tickets even if I can't sell the PSLs, just take the hit to not have to pay for the tickets each year. I was thinking that after that 0-2 start some more. Now? Glad I've got them.

Comes down to final week vs Colts with TL done. Going to be nuts and Texans winning division will be bananas

Nico Collins is sitting on about 60/1,000/6 TDs
I rounded just a smidge to have some perspective
7/146/TD...wk 2
7168/2TD...wk 4, he's been doing this all year when they target him
7/104/TD...wk 12
7/191/TD...wk 13

And now he is left as the prime WR, I don't consider Noah Brown to be a strong option, he got lucky a couple times this season but he's no Nico
If people haven't seen him play, he's massive in size, if Calvin Johnson was Megatron, Nico looks like Optimus Prime
5 games left, Collins could easily hit 1,300-1,500 yds this season which would be a massive breakout Year 3

-Trying to stay positive for you guys and not make it all about the loss of Dell on my redraft teams, it hurt a lot of folks.
-I'm still very interested in the maturation process of CJ Stroud this season and if he can will them into the Playoffs.
Marino did it in '83 before he exploded in '84, rookie QBs don't hit the Playoffs often to my knowledge but I would have to research it.

Jacksonville sustained several major injuries last night and certainly none bigger than the loss of Trevor Lawrence which opens the door for others to step in and make a run at the South.
Jax 8-4, starting QB down
Indy 7-5, JT out a couple of weeks
HOU 7-5, you guys are right there competing

And here's another one I notice when it comes to the Texans ...
-Almost every week I hear a new National media member start hyping CJ Stroud like they just discovered him
"CJ Stroud has become must watch football" or something along those lines almost every single week that goes by

I still feel most NFL fans who aren't FF nuts likely don't know him that well or haven't watched him play.
Media the same way, unless it's one of the booth guys that has actually watched and called one of his games, he largely goes unnoticed.
I know it's the bias many feel towards the Texans watching them fall apart from the inside out a couple years back but I can attest the Texans have moved on.

-One last thing while I am emptying all my Texans' thoughts on a Tuesday morning,
I think there is a real possibility Miami faces Houston in the Playoffs, lot of football left in these last 5 weeks.
Good Luck!

Just shotgunning some thoughts.

- Last week against Jacksonville, I happened to focus on the receivers a lot during CJ's scrambles, and they were doing a poor job of giving him a target on the scrambles. Which was a change compared to what I'd noticed in the past. Like there would be 4 receivers and only one of them moving, the others stopped and so totally covered as he's rolling out. I didn't really pay as much attention this last game so I can't say whether they did better this game. But it felt like they did. I would have hoped it would be a point of emphasis in practice last week.

- I feel like we're seeing fewer of those anticipation throws where he's releasing the ball when the receiver is still a step from his break and just barely comes open at the point the ball arrives. I'm not sure why (or even if that perception is correct). I mean it could be defenses are adjusting to take some of those first reads away, or could be he's being coached to not go for such slim windows, or could just be his success on the big play has him passing by more of those tight windows to look for something deeper.

- Felt like the O-line/protection was very bad when Denver put 6-8 men all on the line and then the blockers not knowing who to pick up. Two bad sacks came from that as I recall, completely unblocked. I would expect to see other teams doing more of that to us until we've shown we can stop it and beat it. So hopefully they spend some time focusing on it.

- Man we need to get our running game going with some consistency. Granted the O-line has barely had more than 3 starters at a time in it, and now we're down to 2 at most for the rest of the season. But I could see guard being a position to address with a pick in the first two days if not in free agency. We have about the 4th most projected cap room for the off season, but also will have a lot of those vets whose contracts are up. Some notable 2024 free agents:
Grenard
Rankins
Schultz
S. Nelson
Ka'imi
Singletary
Noah Brown
Perryman
T. Thomas
Hughes
Murray
Fant

AFC South news

Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence suffered a right high ankle sprain against the Bengals on Monday night but escaped further damage, coach Doug Pederson said Tuesday.

Pederson said the Jaguars would evaluate Lawrence later in the week, and he wouldn't completely rule out the possibility of Lawrence playing Sunday.

"I'm not going to put that timetable on Trevor," Pederson said Tuesday afternoon. "I'm not going to put him in a box like that, but we'll see how he is in a couple of days."

as the texans head to play my jets, i read this stat to warm your hearts. the jets do not have a rushing attempt from between their opponents goal line and 5 yard line THIS YEAR.

Schultz was a limited participant at practice.

While Schultz returned to practice, left tackle Laremy Tunsil (knee), right tackle George Fant (hip), safety Jimmie Ward (shoulder), wide receiver Robert Woods (rest) and linebacker Neville Hewitt (hamstring) did not participate.

Tunsil, Fant, Ward and Woods typically have rest days on Wednesday and are expected to return Thursday.

Defensive end Will Anderson (shoulder), defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins (elbow/shoulder) and wide receiver Noah Brown (knee) were all limited in practice.

It's funny, I was hearing some people talk about Stroud as an MVP prior to this week's game. I find it folly to judge QBs so early in his career, but am a big fan of how well Stroud does when the defense knocks him off platform. Tank injury is big, seemed like they had a great connection.

Leads the league passing yards and per game. Put a Mahomes or Hurts or Lamar name with his stats would be a slam dunk. Season ain’t over.
