how bad are the lions (1 Viewer)

if Jason Hanson misses the kick against new orleans the Lions end up with the 2nd pick overall. Or maybe more realisticaly, if Roy Williams drops just one more pass. Maybe we get leinart? Brick and move Backus to the right side? trade down a couple spots and pick up some picks? NOPE! pick 9! :wall: :wall:

just more salt in the wounds of Lion fans. I've put up with it for over 30 years and it's soooo predictable it hurts.

:ptts: Maybe you guys should draft 3 players that play the same position 3 years in a row?Cursed by a bad owner and GM.

Not only that, I herd they are bringing in Jim Haslett for an interview.

Geez

:X
Jim Haslett is well-respected by lots of people in the NFL and is a candidate for alot of jobs in the league.Coaching in NO isnt exactly easy. He has 1 more playoff win than every other coach to have a job in NO.

Detroit always drafts in 3's. They drafted 3 dbs (Fair and don't remember the other 2), 3 o-line (Gibson, McDougle, Backus) and the 3 WRs. They lock onto a position and stay there until they think they got it right, but they never do. Now its the not so quick witted response everyone uses.

The lions have the 9th pick overall. If they do not trade up to get Matt or Vince, anyone think aaron brooks could be signed and become the starter??? I read something earlier in the season that the saints were going to cut ties with brooks but haven't heard if he's a free agent or if he will be released.

I hear you loud and clear! I firmly believe the Lions are cursed. The superhuman Barry Sanders helped make them a playoff contender in the early 90's but even he got sick of the Lions and chose to retire instead of :wall: everyday like us fans do. Don't worry if the Lions ended up with the No.2 pick they still would have screwed it up.

I think the perfect thing for them to do from a Lion and Michigan fan perspective is to hire Jim Tressel. He'd look good in a Honolulu blue sweater vest. MUCH better than the puke red one he wears now.

I added this to the master coaches thread above, but figured I could throw it in here too since there is QB talk.Given the fact that the Lions have been given permission to speak to Al Saunders, let's not forget that KC was the team that coveted Joey Harrington and were rumored to be seeking him in a trade. So if Al Saunders is hired as the coach, do not be surprised at all to see Joey Harrington back as the QB for the Detroit Lions.

Why didn't they draft 3 QBs?

If they draft Vince Young my 20 year stretch of unwavering loyalty is over...

after chuck long and andre ware, they were a little shell shocked so they went a different direction.

Dbs were Fair (1998) and Bryant Westbrook (1997). I was thinking Ryan McNeil as the 3rd, but he was drafted in 1993

And why is that? I think Vince young is the better quarterback.

Even at pick 9, Det should be able to land a stud-like Tackle. They will get to sign him much cheaper than if they had the #2 pick though. Look at the bright side of things. :)

You're insane. Everyone knows they will go WR or QB. It's the Lions! In all seriousness, I hope they land a tackle.

Winston declaring certainly adds another good tackle to the mix, but I'm not sure exactly where he'll grade out and I've heard some USC homers even say that he was disappointing this season.Obviously D'Brick is the top tackle and McNeil carries a 1st round grade, too.. but IIRC he's a low first round grade and from the looks of it, D'Brick will be loooooong gone like Ernie Harwell when the Lions pick 9th.

That means the Lions will either have to trade up to get Brick, go after their 2nd biggest need (DE) and grab Kiwhateverhisnameis from Boston College or ..... take another WR.. which won't happen.

I suppose there's an outside chance they could look at a QB like Cutler, but I'd be shocked if they went after a QB in the first with so many problems along their offensive line.

Mentioned a lot by the media. But again......this is the Lions.

I'm guessing they go A.J. Hawk if he's still around at 9
As great as Hawk is I just can't see them passing up the major needs at Tackle and DE. Especially seeing that a top guy will likely be there.

LB IS a need. not as big as OT but if they are choosing between the 2nd best tackle and the best LB they'll go with hawk and not look back.

There is a very good chance that even the 2nd best Tackle grades out higher than Hawk and it is a MUCH tougher position to fill.

Not that Stockar McDougle was great, but did he not go to the Fins in free agency this past year?

yes and he'll likely be cut this off-season

My girlfriend wondered why in Week 16 and 17 I was kinda rooting AGAINST my team. I told her "FOR A BETTER DRAFT PICK!" She just shook her head and walked out of the room...

Yeh, like signing Scott Mitchell..

bwahahahahahaha
The Lions made the playoffs 6 times between 92 and 2000--including the NFC championship game in 92. Not exactly a dynasty, but better than the jokes about them in that decade warrant.

Would make a third high pick...Lehman and Bailey are both 2nd rounders in the past few years.

and neither has made it through a full season yet.

No. Don't back down from your prediction that they will draft another WR. Stick with your guns. I'm with ya man! They may have gotten rid of Mooch (scapegoat) but look on the brightside...they still have Millen! They'll go WR #1. :bag:
