How bad is the NFC East? (1 Viewer)

Wow, just last year going into the year this was thought to be one of the best top to bottom divisions in the league. Fast forward a year, the Giants are horrendous, Eagles look terrible, Washington is average at best, and that leaves the 'Boys as the class of the division. There's no doubting the Cowboys on the offensive side of the ball but they are going to have a long year on the defensive side of the ball all year.

I seriously can't remember the NFC East being in worse shape than it is today. Solid defense was usually a given by most of the teams. I know it's only two weeks but I really can't see a whole lot changing over the course of the season, am I overreacting?

I don't see how it is any worse than the NFC West. The Cowboys are probably a better team than the Seahawks. The Redskins and 49ers are very similar, good defense, young qb, solid running game, good enough to play with most teams. Philly and St. Louis are pretty similar, both have not looked good and should get better. And Arizona and the Giants are probably in about the same boat.

The AFC East is nothing short of putrid right now behind the Pats. I know the J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets were decent last year, but they have yet to look like a contender this year.

Philly and NYG may suck right now. Personally, I think Philly will get rolling eventually. Possibly too late to make a playoff run however.

Dal is clearly strong and a playoff caliber team and Wash is not far behind. Wash is certainly better than average. The team is 2-0 despite playing with out it's entire right side of the Oline, breaking in a new QB still and a few injuries on defense. They too will only get better.

I personally think the NFC South is worse. Their best team is 0-2 (Saints) the next best team is 1-1 (Panthers) and the other two are bottom 10 aweful (Bucs & Falcons).

Unless the Saints turn it around or the Panthers start playing much better on both sides of the ball, this division is mired in mediocrity bordering on disaster.

I agree, whether you think it's the worst or whatever.......there's no doubting the division is down.

Dallas may or may not be good enough to compete for the conference. We thought Dallas would be able to last season until they got a rude awakening by the Saints. I guess we'll find out how far behind the Bears they are this weekend.

Philly is as bad as they have been in a long time.

The Giants are banged up and have a bad defense healthy.

Washington is mediocre but balanced. They have a OK defense, OK running game, OK everything......which is why they're OK.

The entire NFC is just gross.

It's sad that the Norris is now the best division in that conference. That's really saying something. At this point, they may send two teams to the playoffs :kicksrock: or, ya know, they may have three teams with a losing record. Nothing would surprise me at this point.

No, it really wouldn't surprise me either. I mean, one key injury to anyone of these teams and a team with think is a contender could just as quickly be God awful.I mean, Detroit is 2-0 but I tell you what, unless Kitna comes back in that game, they lose. He gets dinged.....that team goes down the toilet.

In the NFC, 8-8 teams are playoff contenders. So unless you think the Iggles can't go 8-6 the rest of the way, they're still in it.
What makes you believe that philly can go 8-6? They look awful on offense, defense and special teams. This isn't the same team as years past.....
I'm not saying they can or cannot go 8-6, but the point was that IMO in the NFC it may not take much for teams to stay in playoff contention.

 EASILY the worst division in football. Wash, Philly and the Giants are way better than the Bills Jets and 'phins

 But the Pats are either the best or second best in all of football right now.How can that be the worst division when 1/4 of the teams is the favorite to win the Superbowl?

Not to make excuses for the pitiful performance of my favorite team but the 2003 season started out in a similar (actually even worse) manner. McNabb was coming off a bad injury and performed badly in the first two games. The Eagles started out 0-2 then went 12-4 for the season and made it to the Conference finals. Not saying that's going to happen this year but it would not be unprecedented if it did.

I don't think this division is that bad at all.

Dallas is a very good team.

Philadelphia's defense is ranked 8th in yards allowed. The offense is struggling, but once McNabb gets going (and he will) they will put up points. I see this team making the playoffs.

Washington is 2-0, the defense is playing well and Campbell is showing a lot of promise. They're not a great team, but certainly they should be a .500 team.

The Giants do suck, but that's one team.

The NFC East is the best division in the NFC, which only makes it the 5th best division in the NFL. All 4 AFC divisions are better.

I have to disagree, the AFC East has to be the worst division in football. Other than the Pats, all those teams are 0-2 for good reason

The AFC East is tied for the worst record although the NFC South probably gets the tiebreaker.Total wins by division and combined scoring differential:NFC South 2-6, -71AFC East 2-6, -26AFC West 3-5, -54NFC East 4-4, -5NFC West 4-4, 0AFC North 5-3, +30NFC North 6-2, +60AFC South 6-2, +67

The OP must be an AFC guy or an NFC East hater or both. Just a quick glimpse at the standings shows the AFC East and the NFC South as poor in terms of overall records at 2-6.

I generally like the AFC teams more than the NFC and certainly don't hate the NFC East. I've watched this division closely since I was a kid and can't ever remember it being as soft as it looks this year. Maybe I should have made the thread a comparison against prior NFC East's because that's essentially what I was getting at. Usually the Eagles, Giants and Cowboys all have good teams year in year out and the Skins were up and down and one of the teams are generally near the tops in the league. This year it looks like the Giants/Boys are going to have terrible defenses, the Skins are average all around and the Eagles look very underwhelming. Although the division doesn't have a standout team it probably isn't the worst division.
