How do you fix a hangover? (1 Viewer)

I get up at 4 every morning, drink moderately to heavily every night, and almost never have a hangover anymore. My method is generally to get very drunk very early, and get to bed early (between 8 and 10). I try to remember to drink a lot of water before going to bed, but forget most of the time. If I do get a little hangover or just a little sluggish, I stay well stocked with Airborne tablets.

Speaking of hangovers, we moved to a new house with a fantastic drinking porch and, of course, is always very well stocked with cold beer. One of the ladies on my staff has realized this (also very centrally located), and knows that she's always welcome to stop by for a beer, which she does. Friday night, she swings by to knock back a few. Guess who called out Saturday because she was too hungover? I'm either the best or worst boss in the world, can't decide.
Seems unhealthy

That was Woody, right? Was that after the "I know my redeemer liveth" batch? I think the Leap into an open grave was what Carla made Diane?
Yep.  The old Hanover Hangover cure.

"Vera made me breakfast in bed this morning and kept calling me 'Mister Two Times.'"

1. Promise God you will never drink again if she just makes it go away

2. Drink lots of water until you vomit

3. Smoke weed

4. Sleep all day

5. start drinking again

Kombucha has been my go to recently.  Works better than anything I've ever tried.
Yup, I discovered this recently as well.  I don't get them very often unless....1) I stay up long past midnight and 2) If I bum a smoke from somebody.  Combine those two and I'm just about guaranteed to have a hangover.   Fortunately, having 18 kids eliminates 1 and by eliminating 1, I'm cutting my chances of bumming a smoke down considerably.

All that said, even the mildest of hangovers seem to be remedied by a nice bottle of Kombucha.  Magic juice.

what is kombucha?

It is a vile fermented tea i think.  If given the choice i would probably go for the hangover.
I think it's delicious.  There's myriad flavors; I've not found anything to be repulsive.  Minute amount of alcohol too, which is nice.

How do people not know what this is?  It's everywhere out here.  Maybe a west coast thing.

It grows on you after the first few sips.  And as GM said, you can get flavors so it takes a bit of the edge off.  I've grown to like it actually.

what is kombucha?
I'm the furthest thing to a new age health nut and I find alt-medicine to be a silly endeavor, but having actually tried kombucha a few times with a mild hangover, I'm a believer for sure.  A bottle costs $2 to $3 and I think it tastes great.  What's the harm in trying it next time?

When you're fighting a hangover, you're full of toxins from alcohol, you're feeling dehydrated, you've likely got a pretty killer headache, and your stomach hurts — you might even feel a little anxious. Right? Let's take a look at each of those.

Toxins: Research from 2014 said that "It is shown that [kombucha tea] can efficiently act in health prophylaxis and recovery due to four main properties: detoxification, antioxidation, energizing potencies, and promotion of depressed immunity." Recovery? Check. Detox? Check. Additionally, many brands of kombucha have a lot of vitamin C, which can give the liver — your body's detox center — a boost.

Dehydration: Kombucha has electrolytes, which help with dehydration. No need to grab a Gatorade when you can have a delicious bottle of kombucha!

Headache: A 2014 study looked at the relationship between gut health and migraines. The finding was that because probiotics "may play a role in maintaining or improving gut barrier function in human beings, they can have a beneficial effect in migraine patients." Researchers came closer to more conclusive results in 2015, citing the role of the intestines in migraine and headache management. There's also a small amount of caffeine in kombucha, which can have a soothing effect on a headache.

Stomachache: Again, research specifically about kombucha for stomachaches is limited — one study says the "antioxitdant activity [and] the ability to protect the gastric tissues" could contribute to the healing properties of the tea. Another study pointed to probiotics' ability to reduce pain perception. Try sipping on a brew made with ginger or peppermint, as both herbs have been used to alleviate nausea for centuries. Lastly, opt for a brew that has a good amount of B complex vitamins(most of them do!). Alcohol depletes B vitamins, which can cause nausea.

Anxiousness. There has been conclusive evidence that kombucha can actually mitigate stress and have anti-anxiety effects. Sip your way to calm and relaxation.

Lastly, there is a bit of alcohol in kombucha, and you know what they say about the hair of the dog . .

interesting.

My wife has me hooked on the pedialyte stuff for hangovers,  it does pretty well.

Of course the prevention via drinking lite beer on marathon drinking sessions is vital.

I love bourbon, but one too many bourbons and the headache is intense
