How do you guys handle being overstocked at a pos? (1 Viewer)

What do you find best practice in these situations? I'm talking about a position, not a category.

I realize every situation is a little different, so this example I'll use is a "problem" I'm dealing with in a 10 team Yahoo H2H category league.

Only two slots available daily for Morneau, Gonzalez and Butler to be in my lineup.

I've tried like hell to trade Gonzalez to teams that could use an upgrade at 1B or DH. What is limiting is this is a 10 team league, so most teams are fine at those positions, and people are reluctant to trade pitching (which is what I want).

Was turned down straight up for Wainwright and the guy countered with Broxton/Gonzalez for Wainwright/Jenks....and then Gonzalez for Hamels straight. I can't land big names like CC or Felix.

I have yet to make offers for Greinke/Ubaldo/Haren from a team that could possibly use a better DH (he has Pujols at 1B). Another possible option is a team that has Garza/Nolasco/Cain.

Do you just eat the bullet and sell a little cheap to slightly improve elsewhere or just hold tight and watch whoever you have sitting on your bench tear it up?

As a general rule, I rarely sell for less than market value. The only exception I've come across is nearing the trade deadline when I may need to make a particular move to make a push for a title...and that almost always involves me selling a pitcher and hoping I can strike gold via waivers/streaming/MR's, which is easier to do with pitching than hitting.

In your case, I think you're over valuing Butler. In a 10 team league that doesn't start a CI a guy like Butler is near replacement level.

yeah, in 10 team leagues, everyone is going to be pretty stocked somewhere. The way I look at it, having a good guy on my bench and not scoring for someone else's team is way better than selling at less than full value.

Generally when I try to mold trades in a shallow league, instead of looking to trade with teams with guys I want, instead I'll try to form trades with a guy that is weak at a position I'm strong in. If you can find someone that is weak in middle infield, and you are sitting there with 4 solid starters, often you can make a beneficial trade to your team with the team that needs a middle infielder. Most teams do not need 1B unless they are hit by the injury bug. In one 10 man league, I currently have K. Morales, Berkman and Adam LaRoche riding the pine and another team I have Miggy Cabrera, De. Lee and I have Ike Davis and Smoak riding the pine, just in case. There are a lot of solid 1B out there.

It's still April. I think you're probably better off holding than selling below market value, unless you're getting killed in the counting pitching categories. Injuries may shake up the market a bit.

I agree with this. One thing that MAY help you get market value is try and do something as a package deal instead of a straight-up 1-for-1 trade.I'm lucky in that yahoo auto-drafted 4 1Bs for me, but since one can play 3B and there are 2 Utility spots it actually has worked out as sort of an accidental genius move so far.-QG
