How do you make sure the perpetual trophy is returned? (1 Viewer)

Hello all,

We have a league that is going into our 7th year now. During that time the team owners have been fairly stable, with only a couple of them having left the league over that time. I decided to buy a perpetual trophy for our league, and am engraving all the way back to our beginnings. Here is my question:

How do you make sure the trophy is returned every year? I'm not worried about any of our returning owners not returning it, but more interested in getting it back from non-returning owners.

Maybe I'm over thinking this, but would hate to have spent close to $200, and then have it disappear forever.

Thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

Make it a prerequisite that whoever takes the trophy has to agree to let you live with them until the following year's draft.

Agreed. The biggest issue we have is it being sent to the new winner in a timely manner. Old winner pays for the engraving and ships it off.

The real way is to make the perpetual trophy the loser trophy. No one wants to keep that!

In our league we have a loser shirt. Loser has to wear it the day of the draft. It has not been washed. Ever. 14 years of fat guys at old chicago on that thing!

The leagues I'm in with trophies have the trophy returned either at the draft or the winner of the previous season must give to the current season's winner as soon as possible. Never had an issue.

Withhold $100 plus next year's league entry fee, pay the $100 upon safe return of the trophy. If the winner opts not to play the next year, refund the entry fee as well.
