How is the better season long rb Justin Jackson or Dare Ogunbowale? (1 Viewer)

I dropped Jackson for Ogunbowale for my last roster spot in redraft. Gordon could come back and Ekeler is talented. Barber and Jones are awful so I see Ogunbowale’s path to success as a smoother road...

unless Tampa trades for Gordon and then my plan is kaput.

Better upside?  Jackson, clearly.  Look at the offensive lines.  Then look at the defensive lines.  IMO Jackson has a clear advantage (as far as potential upside goes) IMO.

No chance I'd drop Jackson for Ogunbowale.  LAC could easily decide to keep Ekeler in his same role and use Jackson in the Gordon role.

Even if Jackson < Gordon, that still worth a heckuva lot more than a third down back in TB's offense.

I don't know...the passing down/hurry up RB in TB could catch 60+ passes. I think how bad TB's lines are could work in his favor since he's great in pass protection...they'll be pass heavy and want him on the field with Winston. That's a lot of opportunities, potentially.

What would Melvin have been worth in your lineup these last couple years without the passing down work, if that's what Ekeler gets? The receptions helped make Melvin viable. It's not like you can count on the RZ rushing TD's with Jackson rather than Melvin, not on a team with Rivers throwing to Henry, Allen, and Mike Williams.

I'm not sure why anyone is citing the Chargers OL as if it is clearly better than Tampa's. The Chargers OL was one of the worst in the league last season, and that was with Okung playing 15 games... he is on the NFI list, won't be eligible to return until after week 7, and might not play at all this season due to a pulmonary embolism. The Chargers are starting a former UDFA Trent Scott at LT.

All that said, I still agree that Jackson's upside is higher.

Pouncy should be an upgrade at center. Shofield III does not suck.   I think the line is average in SD.

But, after looking a little closer, TB's line is probably better.  Marpet is a very good LG.  Dotson is a very good RT.  Cappa at RG may be a hole, but we can wait to see.  You flipped me.  I agree with you.

Pouncey was the center last year, so he doesn't represent an upgrade this season.

Here were PFF's grades and ranks within position for their starters last season:

  • LT Okung - 78.4 overall grade, #11 out of 97 graded tackles, 1004 snaps
  • LG Feeney - 45.5 overall grade, #92 out of 99 graded guards, 1133 snaps
  • C Pouncey - 56.8 overall grade, #27 out of 38 graded centers, 1092 snaps
  • RG Schofield - 61.5 overall grade, #45 out of 99 graded guards, 1116 snaps
  • RT Tevi - 53.8 overall grade, #83 out of 97 graded tackles, 1009 snaps
As a unit (i.e., all positions), PFF graded the Chargers #17 at run blocking and #31 at pass blocking. Fortunately, they have some good run blocking TEs and WRs that help the unit run blocking grade.

Those are ugly numbers for last season and stand to get worse without Okung, who was obviously their best OL by far. Okung's replacement is Trent Scott. He played 135 snaps last season and had an overall grade of 59.6, #71 out of 97 graded tackles.

All that said, at least they are okay at run blocking, which bears on Jackson's upside. And they have Rivers, who helps them to overcome their awful pass blocking, and that is also helpful to the RBs in the passing game.
