How much of the Bush hate is from bitter SEC, Big 10, and ND fans? (1 Viewer)

I know there are some who thought the hype around Bush coming into the year was out of control.......and now that he's yet to meet expectations love stepping on him while he's struggling a bit to find his groove.

But..........my money says that MOST of the hate comes from bitter fans of teams such as Auburn, Arkansas, Michigan, Chokelahoma, Note Dame, VaTech, and every single PAC 10 team (specifically those girly bruin fans) that got their collective butts handed to them by Mr. Bush and his Trojan teammates.

Fight On Reggie!

You could not possibly more wrong if you tried. The people who dislike Bush are those who believed the hype and drafted Bush very high and are now looking at missing the FF playoffs.Bush = the biggest hype machine since Tony Mandarich.

What is funny about this is that those who were not buying into the hype before fantasy football drafts were being considered haters. Funny how it is just the opposite now. Everybody that wasn't touting his greatness before the season were simply considered "haters", when it turns out, they were simply "correct".

Agreed. The media shoved this guy down everyone's throat. Before the draft, during the draft, and after the draft.Plus, I think Bush made a few decisions in the off-season that made him come across as if he thinks he's more entitled to certain things than anyone else. It's a recipe for resentment.I, personally, was hoping he fell short of expectations and am very happy he has.

Reggie Bush is #35 in RBs scoring in my 14 team league. "That" is what is fueling the hate.

Bush sucking so bad is really eating you alive isn't it  ## it, that's 2 threads in a row I can't believe I wasted time reading. That's it, back to work.

I like Bush and hate USC/PAC10. Go figure.

This is another example where fantasy football kills real football. While he stinks as a fantasy player I would gamble that every week, the opposing team focus' is on him, if they didn't and treated him like a fantasy aftermath, he would have an explosive day. When coach's say they must account for him when he's on the field and it takes away double coverage on their offense, I think Bush is a very valueable player to have on the field.

I'm pretty sure that the whole "Bush is drawing more attention than anyone else on the field"-thing has played itself out.He is just a back out on the field now, no different than when Dante Hall or Warrick Dunn are on the field. In fact, I'm quite sure that it's been Colston, Henderson, and McAllister who coordinators have been more concerned with lately.I have yet to see Bush double-teamed when he splits wide. He has one guy on him, just like any other player in the league.

:goodposting: Teams gameplan just to stop Larry Johnson and LT every single week and it doesn't make a bit of difference.

Some people may trace a dislike to having drafted him, but I think that's a minority amongst sports fans in general. I think it's as simple as familiarity breeds contempt.

The more press , hype, and publicity a guy gets, the more some people dislike them because they get tired of hearing about them. And if at some point when the player doesn't live up to it then those people really let it go on them.

Plenty of examples of it out there. Brett Favre and Peyton Manning are two of the most hyped and visible guys in the NFL and they are a victim of the same thing (though Favre it didn't happen until his career was in decline). If either of them loses a big game people swarm on them. Notre Dame on the college front is another example. As the most popular team in the nation and having their own network deal, people are going to hate them for that and whenever they lose a game (or even have a close game against a good team for that matter), people swarm on them like they wouldn't on another school.

It's the price of being hyped if you don't continually deliver.

I don't know that there is a lot of hate for Bush out there. I think it is more disappointment. There was so much anticipation (justified or not) coming into the season that we would be seeing the best RB in 25 years, that you would expect a level of disppointment. Bush hasn't even been the RB on his team.

No kidding. I said it so many times before the season started, "Bush didn't run through holes in college. He ran through hallways that his linemen opened up. The guy is a beast in space but he is going to have to prove to me he can run between the tackles. Otherwise he's just the most exciting 3rd down back in history."I still haven't seen any evidence that he can run between the tackles....

I honestly don't recall seeing a single person here who "hates" Reggie Bush. Lots of vitriol for TO, Vick, Benson, etc. but with Bush, just a lot of people who think he's been a let down and might prove to be highly overrated, in hindsight.

FWIW I still like Bush in dynasty, although I view him as around #10 now as opposed to #3 (this summer, I considered trading LT for Bush :shudder:).

Props must go out to JohnnyU, who was pro-Maroney & anti-Bush even before the NFL draft.

Agreed. I think that the obvious shady financial dealings while he was at USC made him pretty shady in some people's eyes (mine included) but I don't think that there's much hate for him. Even the people that actually wanted him to fail I don't believe harbored personal animosity towards Bush. Rather they were sick of the ESPN and fellow media hype machine. Bush has some incredible ability and can do some amazing things, but crowning him the next Gayle Sayers before even stepping onto the NFL field was ridiculous. So far he's been a poor man's Warrick Dunn.Bush has impressed me with how well he has seemingly conducted himself since entering the NFL. He has been a very good ambassador, especially in a city that needed someone like him. He has seemed to keep his nose clean and hasn't said anything stupid. I wish him all the luck and hope that at some point he can display some of what was projected of him, but IMO I just don't know that what was said of him was fair to him or to anyone else. IMO he just isn't nearly as good of an NFL RB as the media hyped him to be.And there are a lot of "experts" out there that owe the Houston Texans a HUGE apology...

The 3-8 Houston Texans, ranked #27 in defense and #27 in rushing yardage? You think they were better off taking a defensive lineman than they would have been with an RB who will put up over 1000 total yards in a limited role? If Bush were given the starting job in Houston, he would be doing a lot better as a runner and as a fantasy player. Certainly he'd be doing better than Wali Lundy.

Reggie Bush:11 Games

108 rushes

324 yards

3.0 ypc

1 TD

Wali Lundy:

9 Games

106 rushes

415 yards

3.9 ypc

3 TD

Funny but I haven't heard any coaches who are now saying they no longer view him as a threat. I also never said he was double teamed so I don't know why you mentioned that.

I am a huge ND fan but said all along that Reggie was something special. I believe that he was unfortunate to go to the Saints who had just signed McAllister to a long contract. Then Breese is the second coming of Johnny U. So Reggie will not get the playing time he needs until something changes.

I'm a huge SEC fan and also a huge Bush fan. I don't think college allegiances have anything to do with the Bush hate. It has more to do with the fact that (again from someone quite high on Bush who also owns him in my big dynasty league) he's been a major bust so far in FF terms.

Yeah, I don't know where he was going with that post.If you have seen any Texans games (and I pray that you haven't had to endure that) then you would know that their offensive line is still crap and doesn't do a great job of creating space for runners. You would also know that they use a system which requires a RB to hit the hole ASAP and not dance around. I'm lost on how Bush would make much of a difference, since he has a worse YPC behind a better line, and he seems cautious about getting hit and likes to dance. He catches a lot of dump-off passes now, which Carr catches a lot of heat for throwing. Please explain.....

Granted, I don't think Mario was the right #1 pick, but I surely don't think a scat-back was either.

:goodposting: No, the fact that this is post #2 in this thread makes this a GREAT posting

1) Bush is a part time RB/part time WR. Not an easy adjustment for a rookie, and not helpful for the stats

2) Bush has shown improvement running between the tackles the last 3 games

3) Bush is 21 years old

Reggie will be fine.

I don't care what their record is this year. The Texans had at worst a top 3 draft in the NFL this year, and probably THE best draft. Picking first helps, but when you get the defensive rookie of the year in the 2nd plus already got in the 1st a guy who is on pace to break your team's single season sack record, and still got 4 other guys who look to be decent starters for your team, you did good even considering you had a weaker roster so it is easier to find starters.

I think the Bush hatred comes from anyone who drafted him for their fantasy team. Saints fans can feel good about the pick if they just pretend they took Colston in the first round and Bush at the end of the draft.

The Bush hate has nothing to do with this, he comes in the league ( Highest paid RB , Sanders comparisons , all the hype ) and he is worthless as a RB .

Should have been picked as a WR .

You bringing up Reggie Bush's games against COLLEGE opponents makes me wonder. How does that Janet Jackson song go?Oh yeah...WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY?

there is nothing, and I mean NOTHING dumber than people on this board suggesting studs like Reggie Bush and Vince Young should leave the positions they've been trained to play their entire life, to move to WR (in the most difficult form of competition they've ever faced, no less), just because they fit the stereotype of a fast black man.

Good God.

How about almost 200 yards and 4 TD's.

:lmao:

what a game he's having.

i love the moronic posters on this board who write off rookies after two months into their seasons as worthless.

I'm not any college fan and I don't like him. I picked Maroney over him with my 1.01 pick. He's over-rated and will never be able to take 20 snaps every game without injury or taking several negative, extremely short yardage runs.

:goodposting: But what do you expect really?

AS for the original poster I could care less where someone went to college once they enter the NFL. I don't like them anymore or any less. If I hate a college team and one of their players ends up on my NFL team, I'm supposed to hate them because they scored two TDS against my college team? Or a player who played at my college gets excused for fumbling in the playoffs for my NFL team? That's moronic.

Left out East Coast Bias as a hate option.

ND fan here and don't hate him at all. Hate the fact that I didn't play him today for Tatem Bell.
