How would this scoring affect your draft strategy? (1 Viewer)

Hey all, lurked for a while, but my first post. Have a quick question for the hive mind. My league, to combat the importance of RBs in FF, decided to change their scoring a few years back. Everything's pretty much standard, except for QB's....1pt/10yds passing, 6pts/td. QBs go way early in this league...last year after LT, LJ and Shaun...Manning, Palmer and several other "top end QBs" went early 1st and 2nd. This makes for an interesting dilemma. Do you still focus on two 1st RBs and risk being shut out of a top 10 QB? Or do you reach a little for a QB? 12 team league...interested in other peoples thoughts. BTW, missing out on a top 10 QB can really make for an uphill battle in the league. I did, but was lucky to get Romo early enough to ride him into the playoffs. Also interested in what people's main strategies are....do you follow the 3 rbs in first five rounds religiously, fill out a starting roster, or BPA?

thanks, J.

My strategy is this....

I scratch the top 10 QB's off my list. I would say top 11, but at least 1 guy is gonna reach on someone. I'm going into that draft thinking QBBC and while I'll draft my 1st QB last, I'll probably draft my 2nd QB first (and maybe a 3rd.) If you don't have the luxury of getting a top 5 QB, top 10 isn't gonna make a difference in that league.

If I understand you correctly, stick with 3 RBs within the first five rounds and hope a QB falls?

I'd mock the league using the Draft Dominator just to see where the values broke out.

Assuming 2 RBs to start in your lineup, RB / QB might be a way to start. Basically I'd look to see what positions score a ton but aren't that deep (hence the players are valuable at that position early). If going RB-QB makes sense, that's my likely strategy.

RB is deeper than you think this year, and people grabbing QBs early will make RBs fall even more. Rookies are the sexy pick as are 2nd yr backs who did well (Bush, MJD, Addai, Maroney, etc.) but vets like Deuce and FTaylor will still be there.

One will fall, heck 2 or 3 may fall. Even if 1 doesn't, I don't think you'll notice s huge difference between QB 10 and QB 12. I am assuming your drafting toward the end of the round, If your drafting toward the begining, you may want to take a hard look at QB in round 3.

Kitna, those scoring rules will wipe out any worries about INTs (even better if your league doesn't penalize INTs).

Just figure out where to grab him and you'll have a top QB with some nice RBs and a solid WR to boot.

There's a guy who *always* picks McNabb and does the same with TO...probably especially since he's staying in Dallas. I think if I wait til 3rd round, I'll probably have to look at Rivers/Favre/Leinart...Romo will be gone by then as well. I'm thinking I might try and convince the commish to go with RB/QB limits (ie, only two QBs/4 RBs per team)....that might keep it a bit more competitive.
