I'm in a 12 team redraft league with no PPR, 1pt for 15yds rushing/receiving, 6pts for all TDs, IDP. 20 round draft. Line-ups are follows:
QB
RB
WR
TE
FLEX (RB/WR)
FLEX (RB/WR)
FLEX (RB/WR)
K
IDP
IDP
IDP
This obviously the 3 FLEX spots put a heavy emphasis on the RB position, which means most people snap up the RB's. There's an occassional Manning, Harrison, TO, or Palmer sprinkled in for the first 2 rounds, but mostly RBs . I won last year basically because I picked LJ, Gore (4th round), MJD (20th round). I almost never take WRs or QBs early, but there is a temptation to take Manning in Round 2 and maybe Gates in 3 or 4. Not many guppies in this league so the draft is always difficult. If you even think about a player, he's getting picked before it gets to you.
I won't find out where I'm drafting until 30mins before (Yahoo). I've had decent success plugging the league settings into the VBD spreadsheet and coming up with a draft list that way, but I'm always looking for an edge. I tried the Perfect Draft in 2005, but that didn't go over too well.
How would attack this type of draft? Continue to go RB heavy for the first 4-5 rounds or look for value (Manning, Gates, etc.) elsewhere and hope there's some RB depth later on? Since you only have to start 1 WR, it may be worth it to go after one of those guys early too. For some reason, this year has been difficult when it comes to formulating a draft strategy...
