Hypothetical Question. (1 Viewer)

I know this is the wrong forum and it can get moved, but I wanted some of the Hardcore football guys to see it.

I always joke about how my 8 mo old is the future MLB of the Vikings. I am playing Madden last night and I decide to create my son in the Create a Superstar mode. I take him through all of the pre draft workouts and get ready for the draft. The draft comes around and who do I get picked by but the #### Packers!

It got me thinking. (This is what goes through my mind at 11:30) What would you do if your child was good enough to play in the NFL, and got drafted by one of the teams that you hate the most? As a Vikings fan, I would have a very hard time putting on a Bear or Packer jersey with my son's name on it.

I don't think that there would be any question - you root for your boy.

That's about the only scenario where I could see changing allegiances. Ideally it wouldn't be to a division rival.

This even being a question saddens me on behalf of all fathers.
:kicksrock: I'm not even a father and I know that if your hatred for a team is more important than supporting your son then your priorities are all ####ed up
There is no doubt, I would root for my son, it just got me thinking how hard it would be rooting for a rival team of so many years.

For my own son? It'd be the easiest thing in the world.

When you root against a team, for the most part, the players are faceless and interchangable. So you are rooting against the logo, team history, maybe the owner.

Once you know a player, I think that changes everything. You'll hear stories about how great or poorly they treat the players, about the lives of the other players, etc., etc. You'll find a way to root for both teams. Or root for your son, but not necessarily the team.

When he's not playing the Eagles.

You should strip him of his inheritance, that'll learn him

I actually heard that secretly Archie Manning had an irrational dislike for the San Diego Chargers, btw.

These questions are so weird to me. Is your allegiance to your team that strong? I mean, the PLAYERS don't even have that kind of allegiance-- they swap teams all the time.

Those "division rivals" all shake hands after the game, laugh and play golf together. The only ones who hold a grudge are the stubborn fans. As a fan myself, it sometimes makes me feel like we get played for suckers. Almost like a WWE story. Those teams that are supposed to be rivals and enemies are really friends backstage and they'll gladly switch alliances for a signing bonus. We care a lot more than they do.

Even the best players do it. Would a 49ers fan wear a Chiefs jersey? Joe Montana did it for years. Would a Bills fan ever wear a Miami Dolphins jersey? It apparently didn't bother Thurman Thomas that much.

If a child of mine was blessed enough to play in the NFL, I'd buy hats and jerseys for the whole family-- and buy new ones when he went to a new team. If a good friend's kid made an NFL team I'd probably wear his jersey proudly, and I don't care if it's a division rival.

Your loyalty should be to your family and those around you-- not some business whose merchandise you buy.

:wall: I've met and had decent conversations many athletes while they were in college, some I ended up liking as people. When they got drafted by a team, I found myself becoming a fan of that team. And that's from barely knowing the guy.

At the Pro level, you would realize how much of a business it is.

Your boy would just be another piece of meat for the grinder.

You might dislike the NFL more, the team he is on more,

but you would root for and feel very protective about your boy.

His teams successes would be seen to you as his successes.

...and the situations that seem like they might be trouble would be a great source of humor...

The pride and humility flowing at once wearing his jersey...I have to  cry now.

14-15 times a year, you'd be fine.I don't see the issue.Archie Manning seems to do just fine with this.

LOL this reminds me of my own 8 year old son this year! just after he was born, 8 years ago we moved from Green Bay to Texas. I am hard core Cheesehead - my office is a SHRINE to the Pack........Signed jerseys of Reggie White and Favre, autographed ball, the whole bit. My son had a life-sized Favre on his wall until this last season. He watched Favre throw a couple interceptioons this year, and of course ALL his friends in 2nd grade are Cowboy fans.

Next thing I know he's convinced that Favre sucks and the lifesized Favre poster is off his wall.........a week later he was in Walmart and convinced his mom to buy him a Romo jersey.

Question: Is 8 years old too early to kick him out of the friggen house?????

I am a firm believer in beating your kids.

the 7 figures would usually sway my mind
Depends on the kid. A 23 yr old with tons of money, temptation, and bad influences might not always work out.A career football athlete may have a medical issue or two to pay for in the end.His investments or investors might not go so well.and then there is everybody he cares about leaching him and affecting his view of life...

Not sure which one is the lesser of the two evils.
