I finished remodeling the kitchen (1 Viewer)

Those cabinets :X
As you can see they were originally stained nearly black. I destroyed a brand new sander getting that stuff off and then I saw why they chose such a dark stain......because the wood was very unevenly colored.

Those cabinets were built in the 40's. Took 2-3 coats of stain to get them to all match.

Worst part was removing the 50 yo wallpaper. It took days of scoring and applying the glue remover.

I really had to soak the walls.

FYI to anyone here who is going to do some wood finishing do not use Minwax Polyshades.

It is poly and stain in one. It touts that you can skip a step but it is total garbage. It does not really stain. You are just applying a colored poly, which means it does not soak in to the wood and coats so unevenly that you have to apply it 3-4 times and even then the finish is rough.

"Skipping a step" just means "more work"

After using that crap I still had to apply polyurethane. I will never purchase a Minwax product again so I bought Varathan water based odorlous poly. It is a fantastic product. Very littly drip, no brushmarks and a coat dries within 10 minutes.

It is twice the price of most others but is completely worth it. I will never use any other brand.

Keep in mind that "odorless" does not mean "vaporless" so you still need good ventilation or face protection even though you cant smell.

Scuff the surface with #0000 grade steel wool before the second coat (you wont need more than two with varathane) for a magnificent finish.

Yeah, that stuff is garbage. Stain is so easy to apply that it really doesn't save you very much.

Because they released such a terrible product I will never use anything from them again. Polyshades is pure robbery.
