I need to relocate somewhere with nice weather (1 Viewer)

DONT go to Florida...its nice weather but hard to make a living ....not to mention everyone's bat #### crazy down there..
What makes you say its hard to make a living in FL? Cost of living isn't high, jobs aren't hard to come by, and yes, people are bat #### crazy.
well i lived there for 5 years 15 years ago....i had a hard time finding a decent paying job. My gf at the time eventually started stripping at a strip club because work was scarce. Things may be better now i dont know. I always tell people that if you live in florida you better be a lawyer ...bartender ...plastic surgeon or a stripper...or work for yourself in any field other than landscaping

I can't stand anything

I've never been, but supposedly San Diego has the best weather in the country. Charlotte, NC has real strong income in comparison to cost of living. Austin, TX is booming.

These 3 would be on my hit list if I was relocating.
San Diego is an option although I've never been to that area. Charlotte is an option. I would never be able to handle all the Texans in Texas to be honest. Never met dooshier people than those from Texas. They are like crossfitters but instead of talking about crossfit, all they talk about is Texas. And that's the people who left.
I'm from NE Wisconsin and have been to Escanaba many times so I understand where you're coming from. I'm a bit older than you and moved to Chicago for a few years, Northern CA for 19 years, and Dallas for about 5 years. You are dead wrong about Texans. They were the friendliest, most fun people we ever met. The climate was great, the housing is phenomenal, and I am sure there is big demand for the type of skills you have. And, the cost of living was very low compared to the other places we lived.
Agreed. Texas was great. Very friendly. And depending on where you live, a lot of the people are actually people just like you who didn't want to live up north in the cold anymore.
Like where would that be? Which areas have lot of upper midwest refugees like myself?
I don't know if they are from a certain area, but I lived in The Woodlands, just north of Houston. It seemed like almost anyone who live there was from another part of the country. Very few Texans lived in The Woodlands. It was like an expat community.
Sounds good. I'll keep that in mind. I don't know that I want to be in a city. More like a town about the size of Appleton.
FWIW, The Woodlands is not a city. You can live your whole life there and never have to venture out of it. It's huge, but at the same time, is a small little community.

If you wait long enough, the weather should be just fine in Michigan.
Yes indeed, for about 70 days then its back to winter. It snowed again today. Also snowed in November. That's 6 straight months.
Same happened in NYC.
Yeah, no desire whatsoever to live there either. Or anywhere that is subject to such brutal winters. My wife and I are not winter people although we try to make the best of it.

I've lived up north and down south. I love them both. When I left PA for Texas, I was fed up with the winters. Wanted someplace hot all year round. Texas was great. We had about a month worth of winter, but that's it. Lived there for 13 years then moved back to PA. I realized that while I was in Texas I really missed the 4 seasons. Spring and Autumn are so beautiful. And I even missed winter to an extent.

The one thing I can tell you is that every place you go will have a downside. You just have to find that place where the downside isn't as bad as where you live now. Good luck in moving. I know from experience it can be tough.

This is the main drawback to living in Florida. You don't really get to experience the season changes. But as someone who hates snow in April, I'll take living in Florida. There are some "cool" days even here, so it's not all hot all the time. The crazies can even be avoided as well.

Ouch. Living in Escanaba yet not winter people.

I went to college in Houghton and never for a minute considered actually staying in the U.P. after graduation.

Research your destination..............take a week and go there....by yourself.....get a feel for the local hookers and weed situation...meet any potential employers face to face...go back and tell wifie....yeah or neah

Good Luck !!!!!!!!
Good advice here.

If you want to flip homes in Colorado being fluent in Spanish is pretty close to mandatory. Lots of people do it here - and it is pretty competitive.

One of the things I really like about Charlotte is its a short drive to the mountains, and a couple of hours from the Atlantic coast. Best of both worlds if you like outdoors and beaches.
Been in Charlotte now for 8 years and love it. Sitting on the beach in shorts and a t-shirt right now at my FIL's and it's considered a "cold" day. Great weather year round. Always a chance, even in the winter of being 70+. DD said above that summer in Michigan is awesome, well I will throw out that Spring and Fall here are basically like summer up north. I can deal with some 90+ weather here and there (it isn't Florida or Arizona hot) knowing that 300 of 365 days a year are shorts or jeans and a t-shirt weather. Jobs and housing are pretty solid and still a smaller city so you are never really that far from downtown. Almost all suburbs with our traffic are a half hour or less from a Panthers game.

thats the kind of whether I am talking about. How's the housing market down there? Is it rising, falling, steady?

I've never really been to the desert. I am going to look into Colorado and the Carolinas for sure. Wife has a very close cousin who lives in Texas.
Seriously trying to be helpful here : cousin in Texas doesn't make her remotely close geographically. There are viable parts of the state that are 10+ hours of driving time from other parts.

Strictly weather-wise, the area from roughly Raleigh to Atlanta is nice. It's not too hot like a lot of the south, and you have pretty normal seasons with mild winters and a little bit of snow. Atlanta, for instance, is about 1000 feet above sea level, and I can definitely tell a difference between Atlanta heat, and say Birmingham and Augusta, which are similar latitudes but closer to sea level. A lot of the south can be brutal with heat, humidity, and mosquitoes, so if you decide to go far south, I'd probably consider those factors, especially coming from Michigan.

Home flipping isn't what it was 5 years ago, but there is still money to be made in Tampa. I would look at the names of the LLC's that flip & see if you could catch on with one of them.

It got hit like everywhere else did in the crashing, but it has been rising the past couple years. Still building a decent amount since there is still a net inflow into the area. My neighborhood and most people I know through sports/school with the kids are transplants.
