Okay, I know there used to be a thread for this somewhere, but I'm not seeing anything after pages of searching through the FFA, so I thought I'd start a new thread and face the FFA's wrath. :lmao:

Our house is haunted. I mean HAUNTED. Built in 1913 and 1914, our house seems to be a "beacon" or "magnet" for spiritual activity. In the past six years I've been here, I've:

- seen the female version of Edvard Munch's painting The Scream standing just outside of our kitchen, a little more than five feet tall, only with long dirty dreadlocks.

- seen the spirit of a girl (age 8-9?) walking in our second floor hallway from our bedroom to my youngest daughter's bedroom. Actually, the first night we slept in the house (when our oldest daughter was one year old), I heard footsteps walking that exact same path...and thought enough of it to get out of bed and check out the house with a flashlight...thinking that someone else was in the house.

- smelled a highly localized "old man smell" (you know, the kind of an elderly man in a nursing home who hasn't bathed in several days) on the first floor that would move from place to place. You'd smell nothing, then walk through this POWERFUL smell in about a 4-5 square foot area, then smell nothing again.

- seen the spirit of a woman walk through our dining room toward a bathroom. At first, I thought it was my wife, but when I went to ask her a question after I thought she didn't hear me, I was the only one on the floor of the home.

- seen small balls of light on the steps leading from the top of the steps to a bedroom on the third floor of our home. I've also been touched on the forearm by something very small/cold up there, and have heard footsteps (the floor was removed completely in that section of the attic in 2004), a young girl humming, and the dragging of objects behind my office (on the third floor) only to find that things I've placed have been "relocated" after I check it out.

We have a friend in town who is a medium...and she has basically confirmed everything I have been experiencing (without me giving her any leading information in advance). She also said we have the spirit of a bricklayer who died while laying brick for the house (who has never stopped doing his job the past 95-96 years and gets VERY annoyed when anyone enters his work space)...and that we will have as many as 30-35 spirits passing through our home on any given day. She also said that the activity on the third floor is two young children (a boy and a girl) who pre-date the home from the 19th century...who kind of view my wife and I as "family." They're kind of mischievous, but very respectful at the same time. She says they generally wait until I've quit work for the night and gone downstairs to come out and play...though they frequently like to "peek" at me from the top of those stairs.

I've had stuff like this (and much, much stranger) happening to me since I was in elementary school. I just wonder if there are other people out there who have experienced similar things in your life. Most of it intrigues me more than it scares me...although 3-4 experiences in my 20s were about as horrible...awful as I could ever imagine.

:lmao:

I think you believe it to be true but I'm not buying it. Capture it on tape and then we'll talk. In all the time with cameras/video cameras show me one film/tape of an actual ghost. Just one.

I wouldn't believe it if I weren't experiencing it either, sjacksonfan. It's just hard for me to wrap my mind around it sometimes when I see or feel things or have bits of information pop into my head for seemingly no reason...only to have another person have the exact same experiences or exact same information pop into their heads on a separate occasion...not having any communication with me.

Case in point: those "old man smells." The first day or two I started smelling them, the name "Arnie" kept popping into my head. Several months later we had a woman call us who used to live in the house call us to ask if she could see it for old time's sake, as she was coming to town for a high school reunion. While showing her the home, we got to the first floor bathroom...and she mentioned that this was her Dad's pride and joy, because he completely remodeled it himself. She also said he was sad later in life because he could never use it after losing his legs to diabetes and being bound to a wheelchair. Her father's name?! Arnie. :lmao:

I also had a co-worker showing me her home in St. Paul several years ago. We got to one of the bedrooms and POW! I get hit with an overwhelming feeling of a teenage girl who had died in the room. After the tour was complete, I pulled my co-worker aside and asked her "what's the story with that bedroom?" She knew I had a bit of the "Sixth Sense," lol. Anyway, she smiled and said that a teenage girl had died in that room in the 1950s after battling an illness...and that others have seen/felt her still in "her" room.

Little bits of information, the "tinglies" or "movie clips" in my head are one thing. What I really DON'T like though, a recent trend, is hearing things. Music, humming, people calling my name, etc. I walked into one home here in town, carrying boxes in to the basement while helping someone move in. Before I could put the box down, I heard my first name being called in a loud slow whisper, clear as day! I turned on lights and checked behind every corner. I was the only one in that basement.

I believe in God and I believe in life on other planets in the universe as well (not that we've been visited...just that there is life out there). But if you ask me to prove either of those to you beyond a shadow of a doubt, I can't do it either. Not gonna try and convince you. Rather, just curious who else out there has had any similar experiences.

She also said that the activity on the third floor is two young children (a boy and a girl) who pre-date the home from the 19th century...
This part would have surprised me a few years ago--until moving into the house that we occupy now. Apparently the spirit I think I've encountered here predates the house by a number of years, and I always thought there was a more direct association. This guy committed suicide in the adjacent pond on the original property; he does seem to be benign. On an aside, I will never understand those who believe in an afterlife of any sort--yet can't accept that we might see it on occasion.

A couple of days after my grandpa died my girlfriend woke up and saw him standing by our bed. My mom smells his cologne sometimes also. :spooky:

I'm guessing he probably doesn't wanna.

I'm pretty much a skeptic when it comes to this stuff.. however, we had an incident happen to us as well.

About 15 years ago when we moved into our current house, the older couple we bought it from met us at closing.. they were heartbroken to have to move, since they loved the house so much, but due to the woman's health, they needed a place without stairs... she was devastated.. she even cryed while signing the papers during the closing.. needless to say, the wife and I felt awful, but what can you do?

Anyway, about a year or so later I walk into the kitchen and into this overwhelming cheap old lady perfume smell.. I search the sink, cabinets, etc to look for the source, but no luck.. The next day I was reading the paper and saw that the old woman had died.. I wonder if she came by to the house she loved for one last visit? :goodposting:

How much of this has caused you to question your sanity? If the bolded happened to me, I'd be in a shrinks office (no offense).

All work and no play makes datonn a dull boy.

Ok, this might be pretty boring, but...

Simple Partial Siezures?

Sensory seizures:

These cause changes in any one of the senses. People with sensory seizures may smell or taste things that aren't there; hear clicking, ringing, or a person's voice when there is no actual sound; or feel a sensation of "pins and needles" or numbness. Seizures may even be painful for some patients. They may feel as if they are floating or spinning in space. They may have visual hallucinations, seeing things that aren't there (a spot of light, a scene with people). They also may experience illusions—distortions of true sensations. For instance, they may believe that a parked car is moving farther away, or that a person's voice is muffled when it's actually clear.

A woman that babysits with my wife claims to see spirits sometimes. We had a video baby monitor that we didn't use anymore, so we gave it to her (she has a one-year-old.) The very first night she had it her baby was fussing so she looked at the monitor. She saw a woman in the baby's room go to the crib, carress the baby's head, and he stopped fussing. Of course, there there was no one in the house besides her and the baby.

This woman claims that she's seen a spirit at our house, too. Says it's a man and she's seen him going up our stairs and hanging out in the hallway. I've heard a few things after everyone's gone to bed but never anything scary or spooky.

I have no problem thinking there may be something left of us after we die. As long as they don't cause me trouble I'm OK with sharing my home with them. And, as in the case with the baby-soothing spirit in the video monitor, sometimes they can be helpful.

so this is one of those captured on video but not recorded incidents ... oh so close again!

Whoa...

First time I remember seeing anything like this was a couple days after my grandfather died. I walked through the hallway at the top of the stairs and saw him walking across the hallway at the bottom of the stairs. We made brief eye contact. He seemed to be looking for something / someone. I wasn't scared at the time, but I didn't linger at the top of the stairs either! About 16 years old at the time.

Second was in a house I was renting with my wife (gf at the time). I woke up suddenly [i did this a LOT in that house - wife says she'd wake up and see me bolt upright in bed staring at nothing - or on all fours or in a runners starting stance staring into space - like I was getting ready to jump onto something. I don't remeber doing this.] and saw something about 5 feet tall and 3 feet wide hovering 5 or 6 feet in the air. It looked like those wavy heat lines that come off pavement in the summer. I stared at the thing for a second or two, and then it took off straight up. Thought I was losing my noodle then noticed that my dog was staring at the same spot on the ceiling where the thing went up.

Finally, after my father died I was back here in GA after his funeral. About 4 or 5 days later. I lost it at one point in the kitchen - I mean babbling fool lost it. I started to bend over and was going to take a knee when I felt someone grab ahold of me and hug me / hold me up. I was alone in the house at the time. And it felt as real as if my wife had grabbed me.

So you only see ghosts immediately after a close family member dies or when you're half asleep.Pattern.

One last visit? ;) She's moved back into her beloved house, fella. Don't let her catch you in her bathtub.

Haven't seen or smelled anything since.. but ;)

I live in a house that was built before 1900. No ghost stories though. But I wish I had some sort of phantom handy man constantly working on the house. It would make my job a whole lot easier.

Closest I ever came to anything like this was when my wife and I were hunting for our first house, and our agent took us through a place that was just OK, but it was already vacant, and seemed like it had been so for a while.

The house was cool (winter), but when we get up to the master bedroom, I was first to go in, and the temperature felt like the window was open, and I got seriously spooked for no real reason, just an odd feeling I didn't like, and grabbed my wife's arm and said, OK we're done here let's go, and scampered down the stairs and back outside.

When I looked up the house later, I found out an old lady had died sick at home in her bed...ie that room.

And years ago, when my sister was in high school, she was walking home from her friend's house at night, and she said an orb of light floated in front of her, hovered, and then floated away. She was so spooked, she ran home to call her boyfriend, but couldn't get through right away b/c the line was busy. After a couple of tries, our phone rings, and her boyfriend is on the line. Before she can get a word out, he says, "You'll never guess what just happened! I was walking home and a ball of light floated in front of me, I stopped, the light stopped, and then floated away."

20 years ago I fell down a 1/2 flight of stairs while holding my 1 year old son. I had come to the stairs and was about to descend the when I got caught second guessing myself mid-step while stepping over the dog lying there. I bounced down the stairs on my back and came to a stop, still clutching my son to my chest- none the worse for the "ride"- my wife following frantically behind.

Our golden retriever loved to hang out at the top of the stairs in our bi-level ranch- the perfect vantage place to catch anyone coming or going. The only problem was- we had put her to sleep more than a year before.

But she was there...

Love hearing these stories.

Mine is boring and I forget all the details as I was not the one to see the ghost. But my Mom, the previous owners and at least one neighbor have all seen the ghost of a little girl in our old house.

I never saw it, despite the fact that the ghost was in the room I slept in. But I was only 9 when we moved out of that house.

A few weeks ago our neighbor (Janet) across the street died suddenly. She wasn't even 50, was in good health, just had some weakness in her heart that gave out.

The day after she died, I was outside playing with my 4-year old. He was looking across the street, and asked me "Why is Janet on the roof?"

I asked what he meant, he said Janet was standing on her roof waving at him. I told him I didn't see anything and he just said, "Well, she's gone now."

Shortly after my grandmother died, my Mom swears she saw her standing next to her bed. It was night and she had been asleep minutes before. I asked her if it was a dream, she said no.

I'm not so arrogant to assume that what she saw WASN'T real. I don't know. If my grandmother stopped by to let my mom know she was OK, that's kind of a beautiful thing.

Mostly, yeah. :goodposting: Take it for what it's worth. There are other little things like the smell of the cologne my Dad used to wear, hearing footsteps in the house I rented, and other things, but those 3 were the 'big' ones, for lack of a better term.
