Nice! All dead... all rotten. Elves and men and orcses. A great battle, long ago. The Dead Marshes... yes, that is their name
I'm still waiting for the "money fairy" to leave a few hundred extra dollars under my pillow so I can buy some good equipment and a tripod...so I wouldn't have to be swapping out DVD-Rs on our old video camera that only records about 30-40 minutes at a time. If I had decent equipment though (or even halfway-decent equipment), I'd leave it running in what I consider to be "hot spots" in the home for several weeks/months...seeing if I got anything interesting. I am open to donations! LOL.That's the thing too. So many people think they see/hear stuff after dark or around Halloween.Have you tried setting up a camera to film at night?
What I've always found to be the most impressive accounts are things that happen in the middle of the day, or while people are at work or the park or ??? when they would have no reason to let their minds jump to any conclusions. Most of the footsteps we've heard in our home happen at night. However, stuff happens in this house morning, noon or night. I guess the "spirits" forget their union handbook and rules...understanding that they are only supposed to rattle their chains and moan during the last two weeks of October or after dark.
And dismisses them with relative ease. He's allowing himself to believe that he's being logical about it (misapplying Occam's Razor, etc.) which likely only reinforces his convictions on this issue. His religious background certainly makes me think that he's more inclinded to think these occurrences are supernatural than someone who is not religious. Many people, myself included, have had these kinds of odd things happen, but in every instance they can be explained by more mundane reasons. It's an entirely different matter if a large group witnesses something. At least the likelihood of self-delusion drops, but even in those cases there are always more reasonable explanations.Surely if these things were as common as people suggest, there were be some tangible evidence of it that would pass even moderate scrutiny.John 14:6 said:Reading through this thread, datonn has said numerous times that he looks for other answers before entertaining the idea of the paranormal.Hoart Petterson said:The other component seems to be how his mind goes from zero to super-natural in a blink.
In your heart of hearts do you still believe this actually happened?- When I was seven, I used to play in the side of the yard by my parents house...and they had these two huge (1,000+ pound) landscaping rocks that were positioned about 20-22' apart. I remember clear as day standing on the rock closest to the house and thinking: "I can jump that...no problem!" Dumb kids stuff, right?! I then remember closing my eyes, and from a standing start, jumping and landing on my shins on the other rock. I remember my pants getting dirty, and the little bit of pain from landing on my shins instead of on my feet. A 1st/2nd grader...making a 20-22' jump from a standing start. After dusting myself off, I remember thinking "how the HECK did I do that?" and then spending the rest of the afternoon trying to do it again....only making it 7-8' even with a running start.
It sounds completely nuts, I know...but I do. I remember getting hurt (shins) landing on the other rock, and I'm all but positive I had bruises from landing hard on that other rock and my pants got dirty. That was one memory from my childhood I could never really reconcile. I distinctly remember thinking (knowing) I could do it, doing it, and then after a bit, realizing there was ZERO CHANCE I could actually do it. Completely illogical! Impossible! But knowing I just did it, I spent the afternoon trying to do it again...to no avail. In your heart of hearts do you still believe this actually happened?- When I was seven, I used to play in the side of the yard by my parents house...and they had these two huge (1,000+ pound) landscaping rocks that were positioned about 20-22' apart. So she's talking to her sister on the phone a couple days later and telling her about the good second-hand smoke or CO leak that obviously must have been dominating my family gathering. Her sister laughs, and my wife asks why she is laughing. Her sister then tells her she distinctly remembers doing the EXACT same thing as a child.
Sounds like that scene in TeenWolf when Michael J Fox's dad turns into a wolf, but instead of a pair of wolves you guys are a coupla David Blaines. It sounds completely nuts, I know...but I do. Vivid memories of thinking he could go down the steps without walking, closing his eyes, and then feeling his feet leave the floor/carpet and slowly floating down the stairs. In your heart of hearts do you still believe this actually happened?- When I was seven, I used to play in the side of the yard by my parents house...and they had these two huge (1,000+ pound) landscaping rocks that were positioned about 20-22' apart. I told him he needed an enema to clear out all that #### he was obviously holding on to inside...as that did NOT ever happen! To this day though, he swears he used to do it...and on multiple occasions. My wife was there when he told that story, and she's thinking "Um, what exactly did I marry into again, and how long until I have to commit my husband to an asylum?!"So she's talking to her sister on the phone a couple days later and telling her about the good second-hand smoke or CO leak that obviously must have been dominating my family gathering. Like I said before, I guess "crazy" must be contagious...![]()
Yeah, I gotta remember that some of the basic character combinations are generating .gifs. Some emoticons like the "wall" one I used was intentional...but I sometimes forget you guys and all your viewing of avatars, ads, smilies, etc. in the forums. I turn most of that stuff off via board settings and Firefox add-ons...as I suppose that would drive me crazy after a while too. Sorry. To be honest, I think what's most disturbing is the overuse of emoticons. If I get winked at one more ####### time...
Ha! I thought it was a family of freaks and/or a family with deeply disturbing mental/emotional issues?Did I ever mention my paternal great-grandmother in this thread? Found out as a young adult (after coming clean about some of my experiences with my parents and grandparents) that my great-grandmother was nearly kicked out of our church on accusations of witchcraft. She could see things that no one else could see...to the point where the local police would even use her to help in missing persons or drowning cases. Somebody would be missing whom she had never met before, they'd call her up, and she'd walk them right to the spot in the woods where that person was, sometimes 20-30 miles away. Or they'd take her out in a boat on a lake and she'd tell them where to go, where to drop anchor, and the police would then send divers down and recover the body.nice, so a family with super hero powers? I thought I was a comic book hero as a kid too, but um, dont anymore

I wonder who would win in a race? Usain Bolt, Chris Johnson, or the lightning fast ghost migrant worker Osaurus saw in the dog park.

Two pictures come to mind:1. A big, steaming pile of dog-crap, and2. A bird...mysteriously shaped like the middle finger of an adult male. What do I win? LOLI'm thinking of an object. I've been thinking of it for about 30 minutes. Take your time and tell me what it is. Thanks.

Wasn't trying to prove anything. Just doing a little online, psychic experiment. So neither of those were the object you were thinking about in your mind?! Dang...I guess my "Spidey-Senses" must be getting rusty. Not that I ever had them to begin with, or claimed to have those specific types of abilities, but that's not important, right?! As long as you can roll-out some meaningless test that has nothing to do with anything we've been talking about to make you look as though you've proven a point, it's all-good...correct?

Gonna bend some spoons tonight in honor of this thread.

There is no spoon...Gonna bend some spoons tonight in honor of this thread.
If that's true, then I apologize. Why though would you think that I could do that? Just seemed like it had to be a dig...which only derails the conversation. I've put my heart into (and exposed my soul in) 9+ pages of honest postings. No fishing trips AND NO LIES...sharing a ton of sensitive, personal information to try and be good about answering questions and giving a little background. And somebody says "I'm looking at a card on the pokerstars.net web site right now...what card am I looking at?" Not cool. But that's okay. No harm, no foul.Wasn't trying to prove anything. Tell us about it, S.T.! I've done ten-times too much talking in this thread as it is. I'm really more interested to hear other people's stories/ideas than listening to myself drone on and on and on...I've had some freaky experiences, like a ghostly hallwalker (not sure if I mentioned that one) that was experienced by both me and my mother, in separate rooms, at the same time on multiple occasions. I can't explain what happened. Could it be a spirit? I guess so....but more likely it's just something I haven't considered yet.

Hold up. You believe that there are people that have psychic powers? Mediums?
Without a doubt I believe this...yes. I have to believe it. Either that, or my sister, neighbor/friend, daughters, most of my grandmother's siblings and I all belong in institutions.
I'll try this one more time, McJose. Different people have different abilities. My neighbor/friend? Her shopping cart is FULL...she's gifted in many ways. My sister? She can see and communicate with spirits. My grandmother's youngest sister? She'd smell a particular type of flower every time someone in the family just passed away (before getting the call). My grandmother's baby brother? Like my sister...people would come to him to tell him things or ask for things shortly after they died. Etc, etc, etc.Me? I walk into places or (more typically) rooms and can feel (and sometimes see/smell) an "imprint" of something that occurred in that space at a previous period in time. During/after college, I also felt as though I could sense evil spirits/presences...as that was most of what I was experiencing. I've only been spoken to once (scared the living CRAP out of me). If you ask me where Jimmy Hoffa is buried though, your guess is as good as mine, lol. That's not what typically comes through for me. AT ALL. It's more energies and "imprints" of things from a location's past. If that makes sense.O RLY?

Hoart Petterson's object test? Z-E-R-O chance that I'm going to be in the right hemisphere (as this kind of stuff is NOT me)...but if you really want to know the imagery that popped into my brain from looking at your Board name and thinking about your question, I'll tell you.
The immediate image that came into my mind was a scene from a smaller town in Arkansas. I didn't get a town name, but it looked like the main drag of a smaller, poor community. Two-lane county road through town (partially expanded to four lanes "in town," couldn't make out the road number on the signs) with lots of one-story commercial structures and lots of vehicles off the road, but not in parking lots. Almost like a machinery or implement dealer on the left side of the street (from that vantage point). A gray, cloudy afternoon with lots of overhead phone and electrical lines everywhere. I was on the road in one of the lanes of traffic...but I didn't feel as though I was in a vehicle. One of the buildings was kind of a rosy red too, with a white sign with those same colored letters. Past the "machinery" on the left in front of a bunch of trees where the road went back down (I think) to two lanes. ** - edited
There. I'm sure you're sitting in a Starbucks sipping lattes somewhere in the middle of Manhattan, lol. However, that is the picture that immediately popped into my head when I shut my music off, closed my eyes and tried to concentrate for a few seconds. Hopefully it's at least good for a few laughs.
Ha! Like I said, with that type of thing, you could spin me in circles blindfolded for two minutes and then ask me to throw a bullseye on a dart board and my odds would probably be 3-4 times better... edited to add... I knew I was wrong to begin with because the image I saw wasn't an "object." However, I wasn't going to lie to you...and figured I'd just say what I saw and take my couple lumps from McJose and others.I was thinking of a fork.

A few years ago (I would have been in high school, so maybe 8 years ago?), I did some light volunteer work to help my father, who's in the local Lions Club. They hold their annual spaghetti dinner not far from my house, at a locally very famous "haunted" hotel. I mentioned it just yesterday, in reference to some unbelievable pictures that I've witnessed (I didn't take them and don't own them, so I can't post em here) where it almost looks like a little girl is in the background of a bunch of pictures. The hotel is supposedly haunted by a little girl who was killed in a housefire in the 1850s or so, right near the scene of the hotel today. Historians have started to prove this whole urban legend false, but that's not the point.I was cleaning up after the dinner with a few acquaintances and we had some free time. My dad wasn't going to leave for another half hour, and I had nothing to do, so I went with some kids and we went to the third floor, which is rumored to be haunted. It was March, so the hotel was pretty much empty. We knocked on the doors of the rooms that are supposedly haunted (stupid kid stuff, I know), and nothing happened.Tell us about it, S.T.! I've done ten-times too much talking in this thread as it is. I went home that night, and awoke right after 3 AM...I think it was 3:01, according to my clock. I awoke to the sound of pacing footsteps down the hallway. All 5 of us in my family - parents, 1 brother and 1 sister - all sleep on the second floor, and it's a pretty small hallway. There was no mistaking it, footsteps clear as day. We have cats, but this was legitimately at least a 100 lb. person pacing the halls....back and forth. I was scared ####less...I figured it was my brother sleepwalking (which he's never done before), but I never looked. The next night, the same thing happened, within a minute or two...I woke up at literally like the same time...3:02 or so. Same thing happened, same footsteps, lasted about a half hour each time.Next morning, I mentioned it to my parents casually. Turns out my mother had woken up at 3 AM each night as well and heard the same footsteps for a half hour. The first night, she thought it was someone going to the bathroom, and when she went into the hall to tell the person to be quiet, no one was there. The second night, she made my dad bring a baseball bat to bed, just in case someone was trying to rob us. When she heard the footsteps, she woke him, and he stumbled into the hall with a bat....but no one was there.I can't explain it, but I'm sure there's an explanation. I would occasionally hear the footsteps every now and then, maybe once a month for about 18 months....but I haven't heard it in years.
No, none of this makes sense. Different people do have different abilities. Some can play the piano, some can build bookshelves, some can paint, some can throw a perfect spiral, some can juggle. But the things you listed are not 'abilities'. They're hogwash.I'll try this one more time, McJose. Different people have different abilities. My neighbor/friend? Good story, S.T. So...what do you think it was? Not what do you know it is (since none of us can definitely prove anything like that unless we actually can prove it to others, which in that case we probably wouldn't even bother telling stories about it here)...what do you think it was? You and your mom's minds simultaneously playing tricks on you? Active imagination after watching some scary movie on TV? Some weird "settling" issue in the floor boards/joists? Some kind of animal? I know that you'll say you don't know (and that's okay)...but if you had to say what you think it is without concern over what other people would think of you or out of fear of being wrong or offering a retraction later, what does your head/gut tell you it was?A few years ago (I would have been in high school, so maybe 8 years ago?), I did some light volunteer work to help my father, who's in the local Lions Club. FWIW, my wife believes in this stuff (which I've discussed in other threads) and she says that 3 AM (not midnight) is the witching hour. I asked her why she thought that and got something along the lines of "just all the stuff I've read about it" or something to that effect.A few years ago (I would have been in high school, so maybe 8 years ago?), I did some light volunteer work to help my father, who's in the local Lions Club. I guess so....but more likely it's just something I haven't considered yet.I went home that night, and awoke right after 3 AM...I think it was 3:01, according to my clock.

Maybe the road he was thinking of a fork in the road.I was thinking of a fork.I'll try this one more time, McJose.
That was Duff Man, yeah? With the child-shaped orbs floating above his daughter?Who was the guy that was going to post a picture of his daughter and the weird figure sitting next to her? I still want to see the picture.

Ha! Nope, Mrs. BSR...about the closest I could come to pulling a "Bill Clinton" (it all depends upon what your definition of 'is' is) is thinking that the rose-colored building with the White and Rose-colored sign was a restaurant. Didn't put that in my write-up though...as I couldn't tell for sure. Too far away. After I went to all that trouble to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt my complete lack of ability related to that particular "card-trick," I was at least hoping Hoart Petterson would tell us generally where home is/was...or if that type of image was ringing any remote bells. I seriously doubt it would, but that was the pretty crystal clear picture that jumped into my head. Maybe it's the Diet Dr. Pepper talking though...Maybe the road he was thinking of had a fork in the road.![]()
So every time this happens it's just a ghost tricking me, is that what you're saying? One of the problems is that your senses are not very reliable. How many times have you been walking and seen something on the ground that you swear is a quarter or a dollar bill? But when you get close enough you realize it is part of a foil wrapper or just a scrap of green paper. How many times have you heard the lyrics to a song only to find out later that what you thought you heard wasn't even close?
They actually got video footage of one.Or a giant squid? I know a few have "magically" washed up on shore or that a few scientists have CLAIMED to dissect a few on film (alien autopsy, lol), but were you in the room with them to make sure it wasn't just a prettied-up whale carcass?!![]()
wned:Soooooooo......why not use Occam's Razor on your rock jump incident?- When I was seven, I used to play in the side of the yard by my parents house...and they had these two huge (1,000+ pound) landscaping rocks that were positioned about 20-22' apart.
