I'm sure Marino could have tossed 50 touchdowns back in the day....if he had a head coach that called pass plays inside the 5 yard line so he could pad his stats, or if he had a head coach that would run up the score so he could pad his stats. Manning could also do this. I will not respect the record if Brady breaks it because his stats did not come from within the normal parameters of competitive play. He has had his stats padded all year long. This is like playing a game of Madden and never running the ball inside the redzone because you want your QB to have a great season. Brady's season is a sham. Brady is good, but his season is a complete sham and will need to be marked with an asterisk for unsportmans like conduct by his head coach.

"calling all legwhippers. calling all legwhippers. please report to the Shark Pool. immediately".

Every week, I think that the Shark Pool can't get any worse. Then, threads like this come along and I realize that it can. I've gone from being ambivalent about the Patriots, to hating the Patriots because their fans were whiny toolbags, to liking the Patriots because of the 14 worthless threads started every week criticizing them.

YES

And next to the asterisk, it should read...

Brady could have thrown about 15 more but Bill Belichick foolishly called off the dogs numerous times with New England leading by only 40+ points with 2 minutes left.

You know, I'm a Jets fan, root against the Pats with vigor and all that and even I'm tired of these threads. It was fun for about a week.....

You need an asterisk after your username.Your like a scorned wench. Just move on, son. Let it go.

Records like these don't have conditions. They are numbers, and as long as they are achieved legally, they are legit.

Go check out how Chamberlain got his 100 points some time. It's not like it was in the competitive flow of the game. Once it became apparent he had a real chance at 100, his teammates never shot, never even considered it. They didn't make open layups even, passing to Wilt instead.

I'm sure Brady will be devastated by not having your respect, by the way. Anybody who can't respect what he is accomplishing needs to find a new sport to follow.

In all honesty , I think it is amazing to watch. I am not a Patriot fan by any means, but the ease at which they score is amazing. They are unstoppable unless the injury bug hits Brady. With the offensive line he has , it does not seem like it will happen any time soon.

The record will have an asterisk. I have no respect for how the record was achieved. It's like a cheap game of Madden where you're friends RB has a 5000 yard season because he ran 90% of the time.

Did you have your first beer ever today?

The NFL is just like playing Madden in your mom's basement against your buddies that also haven't touched a woman.

God this is moronic. So Brady isn't good, because he's too good? His TD's don't count because he throws too many? And they have bad coaching because they can't be out-coached. I think I understand.

Marino could have tossed 50 TD's - that's wrongHis stats did not come from within the normal parameters of competitive play - nonsenseAsterisk - ridiculous. Those freakin' old Dolphins have no life other than get a little air time by mocking other teams who begin to approach un-defeated-ness. How classless. It's like Hank Aaron insulting HR hitters who approach his records. This season is no sham. You are witnessing history (so far.) A team that cannot be seriously challenged even once during the year.

The only reason why this might deserve an asterisk is because of how pathetically bad the rest of the AFC East is this year.

:boxing: ...agreed, plus he was pulled for nearly

the whole 4th quarter tonight, costing himself

at least 3 more TD passes to add to his record setting total.

asterisk without hesitation.

I seriously think it's awesome that the dude takes 4th quarters off and everyone piles on about running up the score and tainted records.

"How to tell you're historically good."

i doubt you'll find many other folks who hate the patriots as much as i do--and the idea that there should be some sort of asterisk next to whatever record the Pats break this year is absolutely ludicrous.

if the original poster had mentioned the whole tape-gate thing, a case could be made. but you don't asterisk something just because you don't respect how they conduct themselves.

classless and unsportsmanlike behavior does not equate to cheating. this seems like a fishing trip to me.

You do realize he's playing REAL nfl teams right? They are just that much better so quit fishing and ruining the SP.

Absolutely not. What a ridiculous notion. People need to move on from this so called scandal.

And yet you completely disregard the fact that Brady did not play the 4th quarter. If the Patriots are running up the score, why didn't Brady stay in the game?

When you come up with a legit answer for that, let me know.

Let's not get carried away with the bolded part. Here is the grand total of the times he has left the game early so far:In week 3, Cassell came in with 8:15 remaining, up 38-7. Brady was in on the first 4th quarter drive.

In week 4, Cassell came in with 2:38 remaining, up 34-13. Brady was in on the other two 4th quarter drives.

In week 7, Cassell came in with 11:28 remaining, up 42-14. He played 3 plays, on the last of which he threw a pick-6. Brady came back in for the next drive. Then Guttierez came in with 3:49 remaining, up 49-28.

In week 8, Cassell came in with 8:30 remaining, up 45-0. Brady was in on the first 4th quarter drive.

In week 11, Cassell came in with 10:57 remaining, up 56-10. Brady was in on the drive at the end of the 3rd quarter that culminated in a TD right at the start of the 4th.

He has missed about 35 minutes or so due to leaving games early. ~2.3 quarters in 10 games. Not what I think of when I think of "taking 4th quarters off".

He is historically good, though.

ETA: Of course there should be no asterisk.
