If Keyshawn Signs with Tennessee...what can we expect? (1 Viewer)

Guy has never really had under 70 catches is a season other than when he was suspended by the Bucs for the rest of the year. He would clearly be the #1WR in TN...what do you think he can muster for receptions?

Is 80 just too lofty a number? His yds would likely still be under 1,000. Or could he have a Muhammed type year like the one that was had in Carolina some years ago? Is Young too erratic to find Keyshawn all the time? Will KJ be value as one of the vet WR in redrafts?

I think he'd be the "#2 WR" as Brandon Jones' development is fine and he and Young seemed to have some chemistry last year +Meshawn is gettin' old as far as NFL players go.

Stats wise, Young's gotta throw for more yards. It just wasn't enough(for FF) last year for any of his WRs to be solid FF WRs week in week out.

I think Young improves a good amount in 07 so I'd throw Keyshawn an 800 yard prediction but statistically he was so much like Vick, pencilling him in for Michael Jenkins' stats seems reasonable too.

Keyshaun would clearly be the most talented receiver on the roster, and would definitely be an improvement for Vince and the overall WR numbers. That said, I don't expect he'll have some breakout season due to a dirth in talent around him. The offense calls for lots of different folks to catch balls and even though he is largely unproven, I think Brandon Jones will be called upon early and often this season.

I think Keyshaun's biggest affect will be in the reduction in numbers we see for the WRs not named Jones.

I think Keyshawn would be the WR1 option in TEN - and with his ego, he may decide to go play with Vince Young and prove he can still be the man. Fisher is a great coach and will get the most out of Key, but he will struggle some in this role when the stonger Ds can Key on him (pun intended)

OTHER KEYSHAWN RUMORS

Keyshawn to OAK - This is the one spot I see a LESS productive for Key than TEN. Sure, he gets Porter to play across from, but he gets a QB experience issue and a new and unproven coaching staff.

Key to GB - I don't buy into that story that he ruled GB out. What WR wouldn't want to go play with Brett Favre in a pass first O? Favre, Driver, and Key would be a nice passing attack and Key would have nice value as the WR2 in GB.

Key to NYG - I can see the ego in Key urging him to return to NY. If he joins the Giants O with Plax, Eli, Shocky, and Toomer - he again steps into a nice situation where he could be very productive.

Key to the Booth - A move I'd be surprised to see. Players want to play and Key still sees himself as a playa'

I disagree with the comments made by NFL Network. A three wide set would not allow Keyshaun to be double-covered. Well, it would, but the defense would be moronic to do so. In that scenario, the defense would roll a safety his way, but I don't see it happening. Not with Young back there. Either the deep middle of the field would be uncovered or you'd be left covering a TE and/or RB with a LB and have only 6 guys up front to stop Young from bolting. So, if you double cover Keyshaun and Henry comes out of the backfield on a route, you're stuck with a LB covering a guy with 4.4 speed, which is just one of the problems created...all b/c the D wanted to cover a non-speed guy like Keyshaun.Is anyone worried about Joe Horn getting double covered in Atlanta? I'm not.

Jones is better at this point. The only reason Key is in consideration at this point is due to the Givens injury.

As far as KJ: He provides a veteran set of hands, but because he's most likely in the last couple years of his career (and does not want to admit it) that fact alone could make him even more poisonous than in year's past if he does not get the playing time he feels he deserves...He already is talking crap with his comments yesterday:

All those editors should save their ink for another day. I keep seeing people say that I'm going to sit around and wait for a receiver to get hurt in training camp. "I don't need to do that. I'm not playing for $750,000, $850,000, $1 million or $2.5 million. You can write that down."

I too disagree with the double coverage comment. Johnson is a large target and a little harder to tackle than your average WR. Conversely, he is S...L...O...W by NFL standards. Someone will run him down if and when he beats single coverage. He has had a productive career making the tough catch; playing over the middle; doing the dirty work but Johnson does not or has not warranted double coverage in some time. Johnson would give Young a very savvy and experienced security blanket. Johnson can still work underneath and get open on critical 2nd and long or 3rd and short downs. The Titans could use that type of skill to help keep the offense on the field. However, I do not see Johnson resting on top of the depth chart if he signs and I do not see him becoming the primary emphasis for DB or DC.

I'd offer 10k per catch, 1k per yard, and 300k for every TD. 100 receptions, 1000 yards and 10 TDs = 5 million.

I would expect White/Henry to break a few more long runs because Johnson is so strong as a downfield blocker. Maybe he could also get the young pack of WRs excited about blocking.

KEYSHAWN PRICING HIMSELF OUT OF A JOB?

Free-agent receiver Keyshawn Johnson will visit the Tennessee Titans this weekend. The Titans are one of six teams who reportedly are interested in his services.

But Johnson has a warning for anyone who might think that he can be lowballed.

"I'm not in rental mode. You're not going to rent me for six months because someone with my career warrants more than that," Johnson said. "I just laugh when I read that stuff. All those editors should save their ink for another day. I keep seeing people say that I'm going to sit around and wait for a receiver to get hurt in training camp.

"I don't need to do that. I'm not playing for $750,000, $850,000, $1 million or $2.5 million. You can write that down."

But who'll pay him more than $2.5 million for the 2007 season? Unless he has learned to play guard or cornerback, the market (in our view) doesn't bear paying that much money to an aging receiver with a propensity to run his mouth.

And as to the possibility that Johnson will wait for a receiver to get hurt in training camp, Johnson apparently doesn't realize the concept of leverage. Teams with greater need at the position will be more likely to overpay for Johnson's services. And if a guy like Javon Walker or Chad Johnson or Deion Branch is lost for the year, desperation could quickly take root in Denver or Cincinnati or Seattle.

Besides, while the Titans currently have a significant need at receiver, and despite the existence of a solid relationship between Johnson and coach Jeff Fisher, does it really make sense for the Titans to expose second-year quarterback Vince Young to a guy who might be inclined to strut onto the field and tell Uncle Rico what to do and how to do it? We can already hear Johnson going public with his concerns that Young pulled the ball down and ran with it at a time when Johnson thinks he was wide open.

The other thing that Johnson needs to keep in mind is the amount of money that someone will pay him in 2007 to do something other than play football. With all of the broadcasting jobs taken, it's unlikely that he'd get a TV gig for the coming season. Even if somwthing were available, he wouldn't see much more than the NFL veteran minimum for his first year in the broadcasting business.

KEY is a true veteran and he will benefit from teams playing a lot of zone defense against Young. He can find the holes in a zone. He will be a key part of the passing game but they have too many young talented wrs to not allow them to get on the field. His main job will be to act as a 3rd down crutch, a redzone target, and a locker room mentor for the young wrs. That last part scares me..lol

I don't know about that. The last time he scored more than 6 TDs was 7 years ago, and that despite having 70 or more catches in 5 of the 6 intervening years. He's had more than 8 TDs just once in his 11-year career. He's just not a big scorer, and I'd expect 4-5 TDs if he played in Tennessee in 2007..
