If the NFL has an 8 game season (1 Viewer)

Say your league has two divisions or three divisions and your league awards 6 playoff spots. I say keep it as it is with regards to the number of playoff teams and playoff weeks.

Two Divisions - play a 5 game schedule with 3 playoff weeks

-----------------------------------------------------------

Play each team in your division once for a total of 5 games and after 5 games that's the end of the regular season.

Play a a 3 game playoffs with the top two division winners getting a first round bye and have the #2 and #3 teams in each division play each other in week 6 and the winners play the division winners in week 7, and the winners from those games play for the SB in week 8.

Three Divisions - play a 5 game schedule with 3 playoff weeks

-------------------------------------------------------------

Each team in each division plays each other once for a total of 3 games. Games played outside the division is based upon the standings of the previous year. Weaker teams get an easier 2 game schedule, better teams get a harder 2 game schedule.

1) First place team plays fisrt place team from the other 2 divisions

2) Second place team plays second place team from the other 2 divisions

3) Third place team plays third place team from the other 2 divisions

4) Fourth place team plays fourth place team from the other 2 divisions

5) Fifth place team plays fifth place team from the other 2 divisions

6) Sixth place team plays sixth place team from the other 2 divisions

Play a a 3 game playoffs with the division winners getting a first round bye and have 4 wildcard teams. The wildcard teams are seeded 1 through 4 with #1 playing #4 and #2 playing #3 in week 6. The higher seeded divsion winner plays the lowest remaining wildcard seeded winner and the other division winner plays the highest seeded winning wildcard team in week 7, and the winners of those games play in week 8 for the SB.

I changed the format of the playoffs in a two division league from 2 division champs and 4 wildcards to 2 division champs and #2 and #3 from each division as the other 4 playoff teams because playing a season where you only play your division (5 games). This makes it more important that the other 4 playoff teams are based more on division finish because teams aren't playing across divisions.

Hey Hoss, :hey: , can you give me the schedule breakdown if the NFL has a 4 game schedule. Thanks.
I know you're joking, but here it goes....

Three divisions - 2 game regular season, 4 playoff teams, 2 game playoffs

---------------

Schedule based upon last year's finish.

1) First place teams play fisrt place teams from the other divisions

2) Second place teams play second place teams from the other divisions

3) Third place teams play third place teams from the other divisions

4) Fourth place teams play fourth place teams from the other divisions

5) Fifth place teams play fifth place teams from the other divisions

6) Sixth place teams play sixth place teams from the other divisions

Finish based on W/L record first, points scored (decimal scoring), highest scoring bench player as a third tiebreaker

#1 plays #4 and #2 plays #3 in week 3 and the winners play in week 4.

Two Division Schedule - 2 game regular season, 4 playoff teams, 2 game playoffs

---------------------

Schedule based upon last year's finish

1) First place teams plays fisrt and second place teams from the other divisions

2) Second place teams plays first and second place teams from the other divisions

3) Third place teams plays third and fourth place teams from the other divisions

4) Fourth place teams plays third and fourth place teams from the other divisions

5) Fifth place teams plays fifth and sixth place teams from the other divisions

6) Sixth place teams plays fifth and sixth place teams from the other divisions

Finish based on W/L record first, points scored (decimal scoring), highest scoring bench player as a third tiebreaker

#1 plays #4 and #2 plays #3 in week 3 and the winners play in week 4.

I would suck to have to have the championship in week 17 (which one of my leagues does and I hate it). Maybe 6 game regular seasons with 4 teams in the 2 week playoffs.

If there's only 8 NFL weeks its much more unlikely that teams will rest players in Week 17 (Week 8) for many different reasons.

Can't blame you, but I find it hard to project how my leaguemates and I would feel. For most leagues that draft late Aug-early Sept., there is a excitement that comes with watching and learning from preseason games, and the advent of the upcoming season, stretched out over the fall into the winter. An 8-game season contemplates, what, a short free agency period, maybe one preseason game, and a season that starts mid-Nov. and extends into mid-Jan.? It won't feel the same, and I can definitely see some just forgetting it for the year.
