If we've seen the last of Adrian Peterson in 07, does he win ROY? (1 Viewer)

Did AP do enough to win ROY in 1/2 a season?

IF Adrian Peterson doesn't see the field again this season, has he done enough to deserve Rookie of the Year honors. My first instinct is to say yes, we all know he's the best player as a rookie.

However, I can't stop thinking that as great of a 1/2 season that he's had, is that enough to give him the entire year honors. Of course, some of this has to do with what some of the other rookies do the remainder of the season and of course, this is an IF question because he hasn't been ruled out for the season yet.

who else is even close?
Marshawn Lynch is having a very good season.I think if ADP doesn't play another down and Lynch just continues to up the same numbers he has so far, Lynch should get it.He has 751 yds rushing, 120 receiving and 6 TD's in 9 games. That's 97 total yds/game and he is on pace for double digit TD's.

Depends on what the other rookies do. Remember, Colston was the run away rookie of the year last year in the first half of the season. He got hurt and faded a bit in the second half, while Young came on strong. If Lynch continues to play well and gets Buffalo into the playoffs with Peterson on the sidelines, he'll get it.

Joe Thomas is having a fantastic rookie season.
So did McNeil last year. It would take a miracle for a lineman to win it. Especially since Marcus gave up no sacks, 1 holding call (or vice versa) and LT ran something like 70% of his record TDs to the left. As good as JT is, his and his team's rushing accomplishments kind of pale next to what McNeil did last year.

Lynch is the only one with a chance. If he puts up 1400-1500 yards rushing, double digit TDs, and another 300-400 receiving at the end of the year, it would be hard not to give it to him.

True, but Jones-Drew, who should have won, had great numbers last year for a rookie, but lost out to the Young, who got much more coverage and hype. Same thing could happen to Lynch this year, who hasn't had nearly as much coverage and hype as Peterson has had (but in this case, it makes sense, since Peterson has been so dominant).

Dwayne Bowe

Marshawn Lynch

Joe Thomas

If they all play a full year and continue play at a high level make a case for ROY. Especially if the Chirfs or Bills make it to the playoffs and Lynch or Bowe have a significant impact on getting them there. I don't think AP should get it based on a half a season but I think he will.

I think it goes to Lynch. It wouldn't make much sense for the Vikings to bring AD back for the last 2 or 3 games if they are eliminated form the playoffs. Although Chili maybe trying to win a few at the end to save his job, ownership knows what they for the future, so shutting him down would make the most sense. Lynch will pass AD in every stat by seasons end and would deserve the award.

Yeah, but Colston kept playing and leveled off. The most recent thing on everyone's minds about Peterson (other than the injury) is the record breaking game and that he was on a pace to top 2,000 yards. I kinda like Peterson's chances, especially if no one completely leaves him in the dust.

We'll have to see how much Lynch's injury slows him down. He is having a good season, but very quietly. He has nowhere near the star power that Peterson does, and that's what wins ROY awards.

No QBs are doing anything, no WRs are playing at a level that elevates them to award-worthy right now.

Of course Adrian Peterson is the rookie of the year even if he doesn't play another down this season. Clearly he is the best offensive rookie. He had over 300 yards in a game. He rushed for over 200 yards twice. He set numerous rushing records. I don't see any reason whatsoever why he shouldn't win rookie of the year.

If AP doesn't play another down, and the Lynch goes for 1400 and 12 (est. pace) and the Bills contend for the 6 spot in the AFC, I think Lynch wins it.

The key is that the injury will be seen as unfortunate - it's not like the guy stopped producing becuase he stopped playing well.

A major factor that makes it (I think) almost impossible for Lynch to take this is that Peterson just set the single-game rushing record. That screams DOMINANT - and it is going to be fresh in people's minds, that he did this, and his season was tragically cut short.

If there was a QB or WR who was also dominant, they'd have a shot due to a lack of a direct comparison to Peterson.

Lynch needs to rush for 1000+ and get 500+ through the air, and get double TD's to have a chance. If he doesn't get 1000 on the ground he's simply not going to be perceived as good enough - see Westbrook, Brian.

Lynch should break 1,000 yds in the next 2-3 games, but has less than 200 yards receiving so far.

Bullcrap, AD was not performing well against GB and got injured late in the game. He had a couple of monster games and some very mediocre ones. Who's to say what he would have got the rest of this year had he not been injured. He could have had a bunch more mediocre ones as teams focus on him. The point is we don't know. You don't give someone an award based on what you think they would have performed. Particulary when he was so up and down, so you don't know.Lynch has been steady all year. He is the #5 rusher in the year so far this year, and could easily end up the #2 rusher if AD doesn't play and he is only 15 yds behind Portis and 9 behind Adai. How do you take the #2 rusher in the league, running behind a mediocre line with a pretty much inept passing game and not make him rookie of the year?I like Joe Thomas, as well. What a turn around in Cleveland.

Do you disagree with the fact that he broke the single-game rushing record will be perceived by many as that he was playing well? How about that he was leading the league in rushing & rushing TD's when he got hurt? I'm not arguing Lynch isn't having a really good season - while it hasn't been as good as Peterson's so far, it's still very good. This is about perception - lots of these awards are about precisely that.

trust me, if he doesnt play another snap he is not going to get it. Period

Does he get voted to the Pro Bowl?

Portis and Westbrook are the closest RBs in the NFC to AD in rushing yards but he is still 300+ better then those two (thru week 10).

No way.

8 games is not enough if some have excelled at 14+ games.

Take Joe Thomas as a possible example. :hot:
