I see, you like giving away outs...

Why would a guy who has an OPS of .850 give up his bat?

I was only pointing out that the DH position is nothing more than a HR hitter, that can't do much else.AL baseball= waiting for the 3 run homer.

I can't fault you if that's the kind of baseball you like, I'm just not that interested.

Ya, you are clearly a non-biased, educated fan...
Isn't that the whole point of this thread?Everyone in here is either an NL or AL fan, no way anything said is going to change anybody's mind. But since you brought it up, please educate me...................... about baseball.

Pitchers nowadays are coddled on the mound doing the one thing that they are paid good money to do. I can't imagine that there are any NL managers who want to see or expect their pitchers to play the game offensively in the same manner that the other guys play....particularly base running. People might think the strategy or a pitcher hitting is better and they might think that double switch is a great thing...but pitchers in the lineup is half effort baseball for that one spot.

I dont' see how the lack of DH in the NL even remotely helps the NL in head to head competition against the AL.

The reason why there is a DH for a hitter, and not, say, a catcher, is because a pitcher will at best hit every 5th day. It's simply not possible for 99.9% of all people, no matter how talented, to become a skilled hitter when your hours of practice and play are so limited. Sure, there is the occasional pitcher that can hit ok, but again - it's one day in 5 that your 'good hitting' pitcher is out there. And even then you'll still pinch hit for the guy in the late innings.

I'm not arguing for or against the DH here. I believe both leagues will eventually have a DH, simply because baseball is already having difficulty attracting younger viewers. Football and Basketball faster paced and more exciting, and that's what they're watching. They are going to need the slugging to keep things exciting for the casual young fan, and $$ is more important to MLB than tradition when push comes to shove.

There will never be a DH in the NL. If young viewers don't like real baseball, they already have the AL.

99.9% of all people cant play baseball in the major leagues. Pitchers have plenty of time in each day to practice hitting, they just dont. You cite football and basketball as faster paced and more exciting, leaving aside the wrongness of that statement, the DH does not make the game faster paced and the DH is only debatedly more exciting. Plus baseball is a much bigger sport than basketball right now, no matter how much ESPN will harp on basketball free agency.
