I'm a long time FBG subscriber because I like to support David and Joe.... but they've gotten a little too far in bed with the DFS jackwads for my liking. No way I'm signing that petition.
If sports wagering were legal in Wisconsin casinos, I'd honestly never go to Vegas again.Just asking a bunch of questions because I find this fascinating:DFS had better lobbyists.I tend to agree, but, isn't this still somewhat hypocritical? It would basically legalize betting on individual players while betting on the game result remains illegal. Why? Because of Vegas?DFS is going nowhere. The league the owners the networks they are all in bed. It will get regulated, but it will stay around
How is betting on a bunch of payer props any different than DFS for that week?
Other than gambling is evil and/or we need to protect people from themselves is there lobbying to keep gambling legal only in Vegas, Atlantic City and on the reservation? Is there big Vegas money trying to keep legalization from happening? What would happen to Nevada if it was legal everywhere?
Doesn't she hate sports? Something to do with Curt Schilling IIRCDK apparently has hired as an adviser Martha Coakley, the former Mass. AG widely known around here for running two of the worst campaigns in Massachusetts political history. Good luck with that.
Sports betting created $227mm in revenue for NV last year. That's only about 2% of the entire 11b that NV made in gaming last year, but it's not nothing. If sports wagering were legal in Wisconsin casinos, I'd honestly never go to Vegas again.Just asking a bunch of questions because I find this fascinating:DFS had better lobbyists.I tend to agree, but, isn't this still somewhat hypocritical? That said, I'm a small fry that Vegas would never miss. I wager approximately 2G for a week stay, which is peanuts. It kills me that they fight so hard out of fear of losing small timers like me. The high rollers all play table games, and always have.
Distinction without a difference.fyi, The aren't paying for the ads with profits. They are paid for with all the investor money. This is the exact reason I won't sign the petition. The fact that this industry is making money so fast that they can take over every single commercial break, whether you are watching a sports show or not, illustrates how much money they are making. The articles detailing the only way you can actually win is to write computer programs show the situation is not what they tell you on the commercials. The people employed by one site making money at the other show this is a shady industry. From FBG email:
Hi Folks,
In case you somehow missed it in the news, Fantasy Sports is under attack politically. States are out-right banning fantasy sports or proposing legislature that could do this shortly. And although the pressure is mostly centered around daily fantasy sports, some of this legislation doesn't try and make the distinction between daily and season-long games.
I am hoping you can step away from the bombardment of the commercials and the aggressive growth strategies of the DFS operators. We get it. No one likes their TV taken over. And we will be the first to say things aren't perfect. Super fast growth can create problems and some are appearing.
But most of you are on this email list because you love football and play some version of fantasy football. And make no mistake, it's all under attack. Congressman protecting their gambling interests in their states will just as easily make it all illegal.
All I ask is that you take a few minutes to read the petition. If it's something that you feel strongly about, sign it. If not, don't.
Shut it down and make it illegal for all I care. It's not going to affect my local league.
I think they can help you keep and maintain an erection.Neither have I. If they want people to play they have to get their message out. What are these daily fantasy sites you speak of? Haven't caught any mention of them on the tube.
Hookers & blow would be a good start. It's weird how the sentiment on this board has changed.
Even though we had our differences...it felt like a community. It felt like Joe and David were one of us...somewhere along the line it's obviously changed.
I'm really surprised at the level of disdain many have in this thread and the one in the shark tank...and I'm one who shares some of that disdain.
I really wonder what, if anything, Joe can do to win the crowd back.
I think it's because we were all drawn here because of their great content for season-long leagues. Now, it seems their attention has turned to the daily side of the equation and the season-long content has suffered because of it.It's weird how the sentiment on this board has changed.

For example, when I do a trade in one of my leagues I always like to look to get an idea where players are being ranked at FBGs, it is a service for us who are paid subscribers, but nobody has updated their rankings in at least the past 14 days. With all of the paid staff who do the rankings, no one has updated in the past 14 days. I am a fool to have paid $$$ to these guys. But I don't want a refund, will never request one, but I will never subscribe again.A good indicator would be to see how dynasty info has fared during the takeover of DFS. I haven't been watching over the years but has dynasty info increased/decreased or stayed the same? All of the time "our paid experts" (those of us who are paid subscribers) were committing to writing articles/ranking players/making projections for us has to have been greatly reduced by the amount of time they are now committing to DFS. There our only 24 hours in a day, there is no way we are getting the paid product now that we were before DFS took over.
They are all collecting tolls in the Lexus lane forum, they have no time for us freeloaders. The fact that no current staff member has replied to this thread is pretty telling.
I don't think it would be wise for any of them to post about this other than the obvious two.The fact that no current staff member has replied to this thread is pretty telling.
I don't disagree with this at all. The industry is 30 years old now. Shifts in the marketplace happen and all they are doing is adapting to the market. Companies like Xerox didn't adjust after 30 years and it cost them dearly until they made the decision to shift.I think it's because we were all drawn here because of their great content for season-long leagues. John lee and Maurice have posted in the DFS forum. Mostly to defend Ethan and claim DFS is totally ethical.I don't think it would be wise for any of them to post about this other than the obvious two.The fact that no current staff member has replied to this thread is pretty telling.
To be fair, public opinion has turned on this pretty sharply. It used to be a lot of people who played DFS, mostly dabbling, a lot of people who were annoyed by the commercials (who also played DFS), and then the Haskell thing kind of set off this sentiment that the companies themselves may not be on the up-and-up.I thought for sure someone would've said, "we're not doing this, guys" and ended the thread or possibly came to help put out the fires.
But it feels more like someone has decided it best to keep their heads down and hope the flames burn themselves out. Probably the best choice...anything else would've probably come off as hypocritical.
Really hard to defend their positioning.
I'm not saying ignore DFS, but also don't forget about what got you to where you are. Why not bring in more staff? It shouldn't be an either or for them. They can cover both DFS and season-long and not have content slip.I don't disagree with this at all. The industry is 30 years old now. FWIW, Adam Harstad posted in the thread about this in the Shark Pool and, if his info is to be believed, FBGs HAS hired a bunch of people just for DFS content. They've gone from about 40 to 60 employees over the last 2 years with many of them brought in specifically for daily. And his numbers regarding season long content do seem to indicate they're putting out just as much season long content as before.MattFancy said:I'm not saying ignore DFS, but also don't forget about what got you to where you are. More like trolling people that suspect any cheating occurred. Staff needs to keep the cash cow going too. Their overly defensive nature when they don't know any real details makes the whole thing more suspicious to me.Staff has responded in the Shark Pool thread.Everybody involved is going to ride this cash cow until it crashes.TLEF316 said:The fact that no current staff member has replied to this thread is pretty telling.
Flip through your DTV guide on Sunday mornings. You'll see about 4 or 5 more channels with that.Flipping through the DirecTv guide and noticed channel 288 Buzz had DFS content. Tonight's program is titled, "Fantasy Football Insider Tricks." The description reads verbatim, "Make BIG $$ while you watch football! Easy!"
Wtf?
Joe doesn't strike me as this kind of person. Dodds on the other hand... He always has some scheme going. Between wheat pennies, bit coin, poker, DFS, he always has his hands in something that seems like a scam. It's not just about "following the money". Dwindling season long content in the face of daily content is only half of the equation. The other half is all these predatory and spammy in your face contest ads that they're sending out to paid subscribers several times per week.
Everyone knows that the "you could be the next fantasy millionaire!" stuff is BS meant to get more guppies into the pool to feed the couple big sharks on the daily sites. You expect that from the FD/DK TV commercials straight from the companies themselves. Paying a subscription to a fantasy football site that you're trusting to help guide you through the fantasy process and having them instead guide you into a scheme designed to take your money so they can take a bigger rake than just your subscription fee is insulting and predatory. Your subscription fee isn't for FF content anymore, it's merely a ticket for them to try and scheme you out of even more money.
These are practices you expect out of scammy backwater internet sites, not a respectable business. FBG is in no way the latter anymore.
Pretty much this.... particularly the bolded.I'm not subscribing next year. I'm not going to kill FBG's for following the money, they are, after all, a business. But scrolling through the e-mails passed the crap at the top is annoying. Listening to Cecil Lammey do his used car salesman ad at the top of every podcast is annoying (and I like Cecil, don't mind his shtick, but it comes off as uber-greasy when it's for a DFS site).
The e-mail from Dodds asking people to help protect DFS was beyond annoying - it was insulting.
I mostly just subscribed every year because I felt like it was cool to support FBG's because of the forum and the podcasts. I probably read 2% of the actual premium content. Rankings are useless, nobody knows anything, and there are plenty of free sources out there who do just as well. The only truly unique premium features I value are Bramel/Norton's IDP content and the MyFBG tool that lets me quickly see the best free agents across several leagues. Good stuff, but not worth the $, especially if I have to be exposed to even more "A NEW MILLIONAIRE EVERY WEEK!!!!111!!11!!!" bull####.
