if you were going to buy a new gun, what would you get? (1 Viewer)

Finally getting around to switching handguns from the ridiculous cannon I've had since my early 20s.

I'm going with a Ruger GP100, 4.2" barrel, full lug .357 revolver. Tested one out at a range yesterday for the heck of it, and it's definitely what I want.  Highly recommend.
You are downsizing to that? Did what you carried before make Dirty Harry blush?

If you have the strength to use a bigger gun, I always say go with a bigger gun.  Even if you're shooting .38 special out of a .357 so you aren't really making use of the caliber, the extra weight of the gun really helps tone down recoil.

I get that, but I also don't want to have to wear a parka during the summer months to actually conceal it. Modern ballistics make formerly weak calibers quite formidable.  A .380 hollow point does a ton of damage and I can fit my Glock 42 in my pocket quite easily. Lots of baby 9's can do the same.

No, of course.  I don't carry a gun around with me all the time.  If I did it would probably be a Ruger LCR hammerless revolver, either the 38sp+p or 327fed
