I'm starting _______ over _______ in week 1.

I actually looked at starting Witten over Gates. Nope--not gonna do it--but between the Owens injury and the matchups it was something to consider....

Lamont Jordan vs Det

over

Rudi Johnson vs Ravens

and

Berrian vs SD

over

Lee Evans vs Buf
:goodposting: Lee Evans is playing for the Pats? Jesus the Pats have Moss, Stallworth, and now Lee Evans? That's just not fair!
Bills play the Broncos this week, not the Pats. I can understand the logic Zoom is using, but I disagree. Evans will get his. I have a hard time believing you would bench any WR1 for a WR2/3 regardless of matchup. Berrian vs SD is not even an easier game.My tough choices this week:

D. Foster over Portis and Betts. I may GTD Betts in for Thomas Jones who I have starting right now. Definately not happy with my RB situation in that league (4th yr dynasty). Other options: DeAngelo, L. Booker, V. Morency.
Probably over thinking it but I have 2 reasons for benching Evans Vs Denver1- Champ Bailey should be able to hold hiom to a couple catches

2- I had Evans last year and he is hit or miss. He has big games than disappears. Course Berrian did the same but SD doesn't have Champ Bailey

Deangelo Williams over Julius Jones

Both guys are in timeshares, so I'll go with the one who is playing the god awful rush defense. I think Deangelo is a bit riskier but since my opponent already started Manning, I need to gamble a bit on the upside.

Kitna over Delhomme, McNair, Losman

I might change this before kickoff. People might be putting too much stock into Oakland's pass defense. One of the big reasons they were #1 last year was because teams ran all over them and didn't HAVE to throw because Oakland's offense sucked royally and weren't a threat to score. In other words, rarely did a team have to play catch up versus the Raiders. The Lions don't have much of a running game with Taco Tatum Bell and they love to pass (Martz), so I think Kitna will be in for a nice game. I can withstand a couple picks if he's gonna throw for close to 300 and 1-2 TDs.

Holmes over Cotchery, Hackett

A lot of people are struggling with Cotch. I had him last year and I loved him. Solid, steady. However, the Chad P has been less than encouraging performance-wise in preseason and the Pats will have constant pressure on him. Also, we have yet to see what the addition of Thomas Jones will do to the passing game. They could turn into a very run heavy team. And yeah, Holmes also has a history of ripping Cleveland in his rookie year (150 yards and 1 TD in 2 games), so I'm expecting a good game out of him.

Starting AP over Jamal Lewis. Lewis has a tough matchup and I think that both RBs in Minny will have enough carries to produce good numbers.

Foster over Benson

Foster has one of his best matchups of the year and Benson one of his worst.

McNair over Big Ben

Steelers start running out clock in second half. Ravens will need to score to win with aging Def.

Ditto here. Starting Caddy over Driver in a flex spot - I don't like the walking wounded status of GB going against PHI, even at home.

Jake Delhomme over Kitna This one is a little outside the box, but I'm playing against Peyton in this league, and I feel like I need to shoot for a big payday on this one. Looking at the Rams, I don't see much in the secondary, and I expect Delhomme to get back to his form of a couple of years ago, now that his hand issues are better.

I have this exact QB delema as well and have chosen Kitna, dont like the matchup however I'm banking he will throw 40+ passes.

Probably the dumbest move I'll make all season -

I am starting DeShaun Foster over Rudi Johnson.

I just don't like the fact that Rudi comes out of the gates against Baltimore and DeShaun draws the Rams.

Worst case scenario is DeShaun loses carries to Williams (who is on my bench). Hopefully Henry will go nuts as my RB2 which will make this decision moot.

Flex (PPR):

Galloway over ADP

still very on the fence about this one.

Please tell me you mean the Glenn injury...

I starting D.Foster over Portis and Benson.

I have gone back and forth, but the rationale is Foster has run well in pre-season and is going against a weak StL run defense. I am concerned about a possible RBBC in Carolina, but I feel that may not rear its ugly head until Week 3 or so if Foster doesn't get the job done.

Portis is iffy healthwise and I need a game to look at how his knee is going to hold up. Plus I am already starting Cooley in that game (PPR for TE in our league) and I can see the final score in that game being 17-13, so the scoring options will be limited.

Benson in SD against a stout run defense just doesn't look like a good option--nuff said there.

I started Porter over Moss ( I will wait until i see he really starts and his healthy )

and Curtis ( matchup and also wait and see how McNabb and him will work together )

I also started Ronnie Brown over the same guys ( I think will score once at least , TD heavy league )

Sorry but i dont see WIlliams upside compare to Jones ( They like Jones in Dallas and will give him some opportunities on third down and goal line ) Willliams is nt sharing he ks a back up ( Could not do anything to change this at training camp )

starting ..Harrison, Wayne,Fitz and A Green..over Ruddi... Can start 3 wr , .5 rec for wrs only....Love Ruddi..but green Has the much better matchup

Urlacker, D Edwards, and P.Pos over K. Morrison.....Det will run less throw more

PPR...S Smith, C Jhonson, Boldin, A Green....Over A petterson

I'm starting Santonio Holmes over Santana Moss in week 1

This one I keep flip flopping over...but you have the Steelers going against the Browns vs the Redskins against the Dolphins. Although Moss is the #1 and Holmes is the #2, I think Holmes has a better chance at scoring a TD.

Donald Driver is another one I have in my lineup...but everyone says he is ready to do. If Driver was not ready to go, then I would insert Moss.

I was also thinking of inserting Witten over Shockey...but I think both will do about the same.

Currently going with Shockey and T. Bell in a 16 team league. My gut tells me Jacoby Jones and James Jones based on what they've done this summer. Problem is...I've been burned in the past by players who had similar success in pre season games only to disappear once the "real" games begin. What are your thoughts? I think the Jones boys are both lightening in a bottle..but should I hold off a week or two to see how they do, or roll the dice now?

Ahman Green over Ronnie Brown

I've been going back and forth over this all week but (I think!) I've finally settled on Green. Brown could put up a good week but I want to see how the Dolphins use him before I insert him as a starter. Green is the starter and should put up a good week.

Bulger over Romo - I think Dallas can rely on the running game more than the Rams. Dallas will probably be up early and run most of the 3rd/4th quarter as to not turn the ball over. I am expecting the Rams/Panthers to keep scoring all game.

Ronnie Brown over Brandon Jacobs - this one is tough. I think Brown has the better matchup but if he has a few bad runs, I am expecting to see Chatman in there. Don't know how much the Redskins D will have to worry about Trent Green either. The Giants have some weapons (Burress, Shockey) so it may be easier to run for Jacobs but he is going against a better D.

Of course I will change my mind 10 times before 1pm.

You're overthinking this. Rudi = stud = start unless you have SJax and LT.

Does anyone else use the national TV games as a tiebreaker? I won't start Toomer over CJ just because the NYG are the Sunday night game but if I have a close call like some of those mentioned already (Schaub/Rivers or L. Jordan/B. Jacobs) I'll go with the guy who I get to root for "live".

By "anyone else" I mean those of us who don't have DTV or go to a sports bar. :-(

Starting Randy Moss over Santonio Holmes. I keep flip flopping on this one, but I'm excited about Randy this year so I'm sticking with him...at least I am for the next 5 minutes.

often times I do... although I'd likely still be starting Jacobs over Portis this week even if he played in the morning. Though, if Portis was facing Hou or Tenn I might be considering him.

I'm starting Caddy over Portis in week 1.

Portis

Splitting carries, tough MIA defense

Caddy

Not splitting carries, weak SEA defense (avg rushing allowed per game last year 127yds), and will see some passes thrown his way.

This is a SAFE PICK, no need to take chances in week 1 in a big money league. I must go the SAFE route.

Let's go Caddy.

McGahee over Caddy. I have a feeling Caddy to finish with more yards but like McGahee's chances to see the endzone better.

Jerricho Cotchery over James Jones - I could be tempted at the last minute to change this upon hearing the news that everyone expects to hear tomorrow morning - Greg Jennings is OUT. Despite the prospects of a starting James Jones, I think I'm inclined to leave Cotchery in my
I'm leaning towards benching TJ Housh for Cotchery. He's now upgraded to probable but, given the Mon Night start, it is not worth the agita. As you said, he played well against NE and looking at last year's ff points against respective match ups, numbers are very close.
HUGE mistake benching TJ, IMO. Bmore can be exposed via the air. Cincy has done it before, and will again. :wall:
When did Cincy expose Baltimore through the air? I looked up Palmer 2006 passing stats vs the Ravens and they are mediocre at best. My gut says Romo vs Giants > Palmer vs Baltimore. My reasoning is that the Ravens secondary >>> than the Giants.

DISCLAIMER: One thing this thread isn't or should be, is a WDIS thread. This isn't supposed to be a call for help. This is supposed to be a thread for people to post the tough lineup decisions they've ALREADY MADE or are expecting to make. Joe has gone on record to say this thread has value but will be on a short leash if a bunch of us turn this into WDIS questions. Please post your calls, not your questions.

So nice to get back into the swing of things. But of course, with the dawn of a new season comes a plethora of new stress - lineup decisions! Here is what I've got on my fantasy plate this weekend.

Jerricho Cotchery over James Jones - I could be tempted at the last minute to change this upon hearing the news that everyone expects to hear tomorrow morning - Greg Jennings is OUT. Despite the prospects of a starting James Jones, I think I'm inclined to leave Cotchery in my lineup. I can't imagine the Jets not having to throw the ball to stay in the game against the Pats, and Cotchery has had success against New England previously. Cotchery gets the nod this week, but I'm intrigued to see what Jones can do on my bench on opening day knowing there is now an increasing likelihood that James Jones will push Cotchery for a spot in my lineup soon. Competition, gotta love it!

Chester Taylor over DeShaun Foster - Another GTD for me here. On the one hand, I feel like this is about as good a matchup as Foster will see all year. The Rams are notoriously bad at stopping the run and John Fox's kamikaze loyalty to giving Foster the bulk of the work is probably strongest week 1, and likely to fade as the season evolves. So if I don't use Foster this week, then when? But Taylor is the 'incumbent' starter for me, and much like Foster, Taylor's workload is probably heaviest week 1 and will get lighter as Peterson rounds into NFL form. What tips the scales in Taylor's favor is the run-first mantra for the Vikings. There should be plenty of carries to go around between both Taylor and Peterson this week against the Falcons, and I think it is unlikely that Atlanta would put the Vikings down by a wide margin in this game. When in doubt, I'll take the runner at home on opening day and hope for the best. Taylor over Foster by a whisker.

Redskins DST over Oakland DST, Seattle DST - This is a bold call. Our scoring system heavily emphasizes points scored against and total yardage against. I like all three defenses this week. It seems most people are advocating Seattle out of this group, but I think it's a trap. The Bucs were bad on offense last season, no doubt about it. But I think with an experienced Garcia at the helm, they will be more productive and more savvy on offense. I think Seattle will have their hands full in this game. Oakland is really tempting. I think the Lions traveling across the country to face one of the best pass defenses should favor the Raider DST. Kitna is nowhere near as effective on the road and on grass, and the Raiders could and should get some turnovers. But I think the Lions will score some points and that has me concerned. Enter the Washington Redskins. Not typically a defense I would want to insert in my lineup on opening day, but we're talking about the Miami Dolphins here. We're talking about the most immobile QB in the NFL with Trent 'scrambled eggs' Green and a Dolphins offensive line that should make even the Redskins non-existent pass rush look decent. I just don't think the Dolphins have enough on offense to go on the road and do much damage in terms of points scored or total yardage. I see this game as the equivalent of 'visual dentistry'. Both punters should get a good night sleep tonight, they'll be busy tomorrow. The Redskins will start for me this week, and will be back on the waiver wire next. Like a one night stand, I feel so dirty, and I love it.

What tough calls are you making this week?
Starting Cotchery over Foster at flex (ppr league). I agree with your take on Cotchery - has fared well against Pats, and although I think Foster has a good matchup, not sure how it will play out. Of course I may change my mind in ten minutes. :goodposting:

Now wit hthe news of Jennings being out, starting James Jones over Deion Branch. Also starting Ca. Johnson. Could end up regretting starting 2 rookies but I sure hope not.
