Doing exactly the same thing.Starting him over Portis vs Chicago based on bigger upside and Portis emotional drain.

Usually a thread like this is started by an owner who is actually starting the player. At times it can be a long shot and a chance to gain reassurance and confidence in plugging the given player in the lineup. What were you expecting?avoiding injuries said:Wasn't expecting that from the thread starter...I'm starting him over L White and K Curtis.
That was with Priest Holmes running the ball. He's washed up.Most of you in this thread are complet fools in my opinion, especially the ones starting Smith over Portis. Smith does not have higher upside than Portis. Just 3 short weeks ago Denver held KC without a TD in KC. I expect a low scoring game in Denver. If your options are Dayne or similar then yeah, go ahead and start Kolby, but if your options are Portis or Fargas then let Kolby ride the pine!!
117 rush yd/g and 2 tds in his 2 starts.Going against a terrible run def, in bad weather. What has Smith done exactly to be considered a #1 or 2 back? I have him in 2 leagues and doubt he'll be cracking my starting lineup.

Bigger Upside Algorithm:1. Check Denver's year to date performance versus the run; not just one game.2. Compare multiple TD rushing performances of KC versus Washington year to date.I accept that this is not a no brainer decision, but choosing Smith over Portis hardly merits "complete fools".Most of you in this thread are complet fools in my opinion, especially the ones starting Smith over Portis. Me too.over Fargas vs GB
I was just going to say that he's healthy and standing alone w/ no other back on the team really. . . .thats more than what seems to be 1/2 the teams out there right now.No further questions your Honor.117 rush yd/g and 2 tds in his 2 starts.Going against a terrible run def, in bad weather. What has Smith done exactly to be considered a #1 or 2 back? considering this. depends who i have healthy on sunday....Frank Gore
Wow, so many tough choices this year with so few stud RBs out there.Portis is a real boom/bust but I can see the fear of downside. I have them both but in different leagues - I'd almost certainly go Portis. That said, FWP is looking worse and worse the more I think about it logically and not in terms of sitting a 1st rounder in the playoffs. FWP, fumbing issues, against a Pats team who had back to back wakeup calls and now has a "marquee" opponent and most importantly, FWP + Road games = Ouch, far too often.Kolby over Portis (maybe). It's a game-time decision for me tomorrow. CoinflipSmiley
With AZ down to Bryant Johnson and Leonard Pope as its only real receivers this week most likely, I currently have James plugged in over Smith. AZ, one would think, HAS to run it a little more for once. Then again, who would be surprised if they didn't. I'll be flip-flopping during the week I'm sure. I see the OL issue post above, that hurts...but it's against Denver...which helps. No win this week, no playoffs. Commence pulling hair and coin flipping.Coincidentally my RB1 is Grant as well. Good luck to you, I'll need it.Edge and Chester Taylor. Starting Kolby and Grant. Can 2 rookies lead me to the promised land? I sure as hell hope so.
Is the a "sportsline only" take on the situation?paulbertini said:CBS SPORTSLINEKolby Smith, RB KCNews: Chiefs coach Herman Edwards said Wednesday that if the team had to play today, its starting offensive tackles would be Will Svitek and Herb Taylor, both reserves that aren't considered ready to play. The Chiefs' O-line is decimated by injuries and personal issues affecting their starters. That's not good news for Kolby Smith, who is expected to run behind that patchwork O-line in Week 14 at Denver.Analysis: The Broncos' run defense regressed last week, and if the Chiefs' O-line was healthy, Smith would be able to do well. Monitor the status of the Chiefs' line this week before going with Smith in Week 14. If they're weak at the tackles, Smith is no better than a top-end No. 3 RB. Herb Taylor is a backup offensive gaurd. He has only seen action in one game all season which was only for short period of time. He has not started one game. Svitek has not started one game all season and has seen action in 9 of them as a fill in.
So...are we SURE that LJ is out this week? I read this article-- http://www.kansascity.com/sports/chiefs/story/388574.html -- and it matter-of-factly states that he is out, but then he goes out and practices? Has he been declared out? There is another thread in the Shark Pool about his progress jogging and such.I can't find this info anywhere else on the web about the OL issues.

I have to look back, but I remember the wording of him being out this week was preceeded with a modifier like "likely" or "probably" and it seemed strange. I just can't see why they would have him jogging last week and practicing with the team this week if he wasn't going to see the field. It is very odd the way KC has been playing this situation.So...are we SURE that LJ is out this week?
