In the past ten NFL drafts (not counting the '08 draft) (1 Viewer)

I went through the top 20 picks of every draft dating back to 1998, just for kicks.

No other draft slot is even close to having the same success rate as the players selected at 1.11.

1998 - William Thomas

1999 - Daunte Culpepper

2000 - Ron Dayne

2001 - Dan Morgan

2002 - Dwight Freeney

2003 - Marcus Trufant

2004 - Ben Roethlisberger

2005 - DeMarcus Ware

2006 - Jay Cutler

2007 - Patrick Willis

How's that for a streak? Dayne is the worst of those players, but he wasn't completely terrible.

Compare that to the 1.01 picks over that same time span.

The # 11 picks have the edge as a group, except those in red.

1998 - Peyton Manning (Edge over William Thomas, of course)

1999 - Tim Couch (Huge edge to Culpepper)

2000 - Courtney Brown (Edge to Dayne, by default)

2001 - Michael Vick (Each made the Pro Bowl -- I suppose he edges Morgan)

2002 - David Carr (Huge edge to Freeney)

2003 - Carson Palmer (Edge over Trufant)

2004 - Eli Manning (Slight edge to Roethlisberger)

2005 - Alex Smith (Huge edge to Ware)

2006 - Mario Williams (Edge over Cutler so far)

2007 - JaMarcus Russell (Edge to Willis so far)

Awhile back I rated every member of the drafts from 1996-2005. Anyway, here's the rating for each draft selection:

Code:
1	15.22	11.23	11.24	13.15	11.56	11.77	12.08	11.39	12.410	10.211	12.512	9.913	13.514	9.315	7.916	9.817	7.718	8.219	13.820	8.721	11.022	6.323	8.624	9.025	7.026	8.627	6.528	7.629	4.630	9.931	6.132	8.233	6.834	9.535	8.236	11.3 (Tiki, Chad Johnson)37	5.938	6.239	7.640	7.0
Indeed, #11 has been very good (of course, we're looking at slightly different timeframes). But #13 has been better, once you add Tony Gonzalez and Walt Harris to the mix. Six of the 10 guys selected at #13 made the Pro Bowl in their careers. Three others -- Lee Evans, Ty Warren and Donte Stallworth -- are pretty good, too. While seven of the #11s made the Pro Bowl, I think that spot is missing the top heaviness of a HOF like Gonzalez.

Once you factor in Willis and Cutler vs. Wimbley and Carriker, 1.11 should reach that same level as Willis has a real good chance to be that heavy weight.I'm a fan of the trend here, as both of my older sons were born on 1.11 :excited:

Just to save everybody the time, it's Leodis McKelvin.
:goodposting: That was the first thing I counted on.The other is the Giants fans who will scream at me for rating Big Ben above Eli.
I would imagine it would be a "push" here, no?
Respectfully... no.They each have one Super Bowl win. That's the only "push" I see.Eli: 54.7 completion %Ben: 63.2 completion %Eli: 11,385 yardsBen: 11,673 yardsEli: 77 TDs / 64 INTsBen: 84 TDs / 54 INTs

I do think Ben is better at this point, but Eli is no slouch either and I can see how someone could argue from the push side. I actually think both don't get enough credit for how good they are at this point in their young careers. It will be interesting to look back on in 10 years thats for sure.

Ben is the better QB so far, but the stats don't help if you're trying to say they aren't close. 75 yards, 2 TDs and 2.5 INTs per year difference is awfully close. Granted, the % is a good difference, but that's it.
