were you able to correctly describe the eggmen in your report? With the glorious but bittersweet winding down of this thread, I feel like the #2 and especially #1 songs did not get much banter from the peanut gallery so forgive my crassness with these comments. I'll start with the top dog: I always felt that the "harpsichord" solo in In My Life felt rushed, especially the last several notes that Martin seems to try to squeeze into the very end. It's a great solo and amazing that George Martin played it (as Krista so vividly described in her write-up which I didn't read) but those last several rushing notes have always bothered me. Still a top ten song for me, no doubt, just a great melody and sentiment. Across the Universe got a second life, I think, when Fiona Apple made it a hit with her rendition, and I love her, (see what I did there) so that elevates it for me. More personally, the best English teacher I ever had was this somewhat nutty guy in 8th grade I think it was, and one of his memorable assignments was to require us to analyze a piece of text--could be a short story, a poem, or song lyrics--and to give a speech to the class about the literary devices that the writer used and to what effect. When he also said that we could play the song for the class on his little turntable, I knew I'd do a Beatles song and I chose Across the Universe. I memorized the lyrics (still know them by heart) and analyzed the heck out of them. It was just luck, given my youth, that I would have chosen a perfect song for that activity as the language is so incredibly rich and easy to get lost in. He asked me specifically about the mantra which probably tripped me up, but I loved sharing that tune with the class. When he said we could do another one for extra credit, I jumped on I Am the Walrus which proved to be nearly intractable but I loved the looks on the faces of my 13-year-old peers who were baffled by what their ears were experiencing.
Loved every minute of this thread. Thanks, Krista--hope you sell your book for millions.
Not I.were you able to correctly describe the eggmen in your report?

This is absolutely fantastic. Man, you were a much cooler kid than I was.Of course, but I didn't have a great answer when the teacher asked me to explain why elementary penguins might want to kick Edgar Allen Poe. He intimated that he knew the answer which freaked me out but I have come to believe that he was just yanking my chain. And, to reply to Krista's post, I have never been accused of being cooler than anyone so I'll take that as a compliment but the reality is simply that you are wrong.were you able to correctly describe the eggmen in your report?
My 8th grade English teacher was in Playboy the year before. I can't write very good at all.More personally, the best English teacher I ever had was this somewhat nutty guy in 8th grade
Nice list. A few here that barely missed my top 25, and the only two I don't love are The Long And Winding Road and The Fool On The Hill, which I still like quite a lot. To have all of your top five (and six of the top seven) make my top 25 is amazing considering how much we had to choose from.Great thread, Krista. These write-ups were phenomenal.
I definitely have the medley as my number 1. I think You Never Give Me Your Money would be in my top 10 by itself, coming in at over 4 minutes it's way longer than a lot of other popular Beatles songs. The mini-medley of Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End would be a strong contender for my top spot if it was considered a single entity. But add up all the awesomeness of all the rest and it's not even close.

Trying to give Ringo some credit and I think it's just a stupidly fun song. I don't know why but it always makes me smile.I think we were on the nose with Yesterday and All My Loving, and within a slot or three on several others Wow! God bless you for #24.
It's that off-kilter violin! That and Ringo having fun, but that violin part is wacky and wonderful!Trying to give Ringo some credit and I think it's just a stupidly fun song. I don't know why but it always makes me smile.
That song impossible to sing and get it close to what he's singing. John is unreplicable.
Elton on the hand...That song impossible to sing and get it close to what he's singing. John is unreplicable.
It helps that he wrote the lyrics (or they came to him in a dream or whatever), so he can establish the emotional connection easily. It's such a difficult song, but I'm not exaggerating that your "univer-er-erse" was perfectly gorgeous. That song impossible to sing and get it close to what he's singing. John is unreplicable.
When it all comes together it sounds like the kind of song a bar full of drunk English fans would sing at the pub. It's that off-kilter violin! That and Ringo having fun, but that violin part is wacky and wonderful!
I was just looking at your list again. Our tastes are remarkably similar.

WHATTTTTT???? IT MAKES COMPLETE SENSE!!!Ahhhh, the Binky instruction.
Should I make the subtitle a reference to this post, so people will see it? I know no one reads my posts and am not sure if they read yours.
Most people didn't post their top 25s here, so I'm not sure. I know ScottNorwood might have had sex to it, though.Composite Ranking #143 - Piggies
