Indefinite New England Patriots Thread (8 Viewers)

Everyone is talking about how this is going to be "the game of the year" yada yada..but honestly, I think the Broncos were a hell of a lot better a few weeks ago when the Pats played them then the Packers are now. Plus Denver had a much better defense. It'll be tough to win at Lambeau, but I don't think this Packers team is as much of a challenge as Denver was.

 
After being asked earlier today Raiola said he wasn't fined for the two hits in the Patriots game, has now been fine $10k total for both hits.

Seems a little light.

kind of looked like he was in distress, and looked like one of those things that could be a collarbone, but claimed he was ok.

doubt we'll hear anything more than the practice participation listing.

Belichick can coach up talent but he hasn't had a truly dominant pass rush since they traded Seymour to the Raiders. That may be about to change with Chandler Jones, but he needs to stay healthy.

 
A Pats win coupled with Denver losing tonight at KC would really give the Pats a lot of breathing room. At this point, it is all about them staying healthy as obviously they can't afford to lose Revis, Gronk or Brady. I think Rodgers presents the biggest challenge to the defense they have faced this year. Peyton is a great QB but his arm is limited and they have seen a ton of him so easier to game plan. Luck has all the tools of a Rodgers but he isn't nearly as good at cutting down on mistakes. Rodgers has been lights out this year and I think the combo of Jordy/Cobb is the toughest tandem the defense will see all year. A win here puts the Pats at least a level or two above the rest of the league.

Chased down and leveled Champ circa 2005. What a play.

Actually I've met Benjamin and he's a great guy with a great family, I don't begrudge him any comments on FB. The rest of the NFL would be lucky to have characters players like this on their rosters.

Huge game on Sunday night, the toughest test they face from here on out. Rivers likes to really spread the ball around which is the way to attack the Pat's defense. If they win this game, they should get the #1 seed.

On the same page, I think of the remaining schedule Miami is their toughest game. It really comes down to how much pressure they can get on Brady and Miami is the best of the remaining teams and I think SD might actually be the softest in that regard.

 
Pats with BB and TB are 11-0 @ home vs. MIA with an average margin of victory of 14 points. Technically, they had a loss in 2006 in Week 16, but that was the infamous Matt Cassel game where he threw a 2 point conversion attempt into the stands to end it as NE intentionally threw the game to get a better playoff match up.

that's pretty nice when you can lose a couple guys and still have a guy who can do that in there.

For the season, the Patriots have had 34 goal-to-go situations and have scored touchdowns on 26 of them (76 percent), and scoring points on all but one (a Brady interception vs. Lions). Of the 26 touchdowns scored, 16 have been through the air and 10 on the ground. Of the 66 total plays ran in goal-to-go situations, McDaniels and the offense have ran 37 passing plays and 29 running plays

I'd be curious to see what the knockdowns were for Brady during those same spans of time. I'd bet they are much closer than the sacks.

Breakdown: Comfortably the best game of Ayers’ short career as a Patriot, adding an interception to his six pressures (one hit, five hurries) as a pass rusher, tied for his most in six games with New England. More a nuisance than a dominant presence as a pass rusher, Ayers rarely broke into the pocket but impressed with his ability to outmuscle King Dunlap late in plays with four of his six pressures coming via bullrush or to the inside of Dunlap and Chad Rinehart.

Signature Stat: Since his arrival in New England Ayers has notched 25 pressures on 192 pass rushes, only five 3-4 outside linebackers have more since Week 8

Probably the best article I've read on Brady, from SI:

Other than one freak injury, a torn left ACL in '08, Brady has not missed any time since he started with Guerrero, about 10 years ago. He is 37 and in his 15th season, and he wants to play into his 40s. Like 45. Like 48.

When teammates ask how long, he simply says, "Forever."

"You'll hear people say, Football doesn't define me," says Guerrero. But that's not Brady. "Football isn't what Tom does -- football is Tom. This is who he is."

Collins over the past four weeks: 38 tackles, 3 sacks, a forced fumble, blocked FG and a pick.

I was bummed to lose Mayo again, especially after his strong start this year, but holy #### Collins and Hightower have been killing it.
