Indefinite New England Patriots Thread (2 Viewers)

It's scary to think what the Pats offense would look like with Gronk AND another piece added to it. But let's not get ahead of ourselves.

ETA: Left out the part about them being a projected $61.5 million under the cap for next year.
Total pipe-dream...he will go way too high...but can you imagine adding Dalvin Cook to this offense?

If they go skill position in the first round they will have the pick of the litter, would really like to see them go rb (Mccaffrey, Cook) or wr (quite a few here), going TE could be very interesting.

They want to resign Bennett and Gronk has been talking about his contract publicly,  the prospect of having depth at TE is enticing given our last half decade of playoff runs when our TEs break down.

It's going to be a problem. I'm sure they will get some speedsters to work against in practice. The D line did well to stay ON blocks, not shed players, to stay home against the Steelers- in effect matching Bell's patience with their own. Then Bell is out of the game... This is the kind of coaching they will get- and part of what makes the Pats the Pats. We'll see what they do, but doubling Jones is likely. Having to score about 40 points is also likely!

Back to the Superbowl for a minute. I worry about ATL's team speed. How do you practice against it?
On offense they should be fine, ATL runs a cover 3 scheme, Brady will shred their zones and zone blitzes.

On defense its gonna be tough, probably more of the same, soft D, refusing to give up the big play, then shut em down in the redzone.

Julio finishes 110/1 or less.
Last time around, Jones had 6/108/0 but Tony Gonzalez went for 12/149/2 in a game Ryan threw for 421 yards. However, ATL v2.013 was a hot mess compared to this version. I'm guessing Atlanta will rush for more than 58 yards.

I was reading that they've gotten away from their cover 3 scheme over the second half of the season and employed more man coverage.

Here's an article discussing the adjustment.

I would prefer if Quinn would act like other NFL coaches and stubbornly stick with his original plan rather than make adjustments. ;)

They have a very similar defense to Pittsburgh. They still play cover 3, but given their quicker personnell (like the steelers LBs and Safeties) they have dynamic zones that selectively shed their zone for man to man in certain looks.

At the end of the day though, its still a cover 3 base. Brady will eat.

for Another good read...about the Pats secondary...

http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/patriots/2017/01/howe_patriots_secondary_deserves_more_respect

McCourty has really taken his game to another level...he's a stud right now and one of their leaders...Butler is a legit #1 CB...the kid reminds me of Ty Law...he just competes hard every down and is not afraid to get his nose dirty...Ryan is playing very well right now...he has always been hot and cold but recently he's playing at a pretty high level...unfortunately I could easily see another team over-paying for him this offseason...I think Rowe has been a nice addition...he'll get beat here and there but he has some size and athleticism and has made plays...he was a big upgrade from what they had...Chung has been one of the bigger surprises in the BB era...he was a disappointment when he used to play for the Pats and when they got him after underachieving in Philly I didn't think he would make the roster...he has turned into a very effective player who brings a nice edge to his game...he is very good in the run game and is able to matchups with many TEs as well...Harmon's a nice player as well...he can make plays...overall this unit has exceeded expectations this year (and I'm sure the schedule didn't hurt)...they will have their hand's full against Atlanta...some real nice match-ups to watch...

Just saw an interview with Logan Ryan...it maybe the first time I ever heard him talk...very easy to see why the Pats drafted him...talks like a BB player...

Also F anyone who wanted to dump White.  I don't care if this is revisionist or not, but I was always a big White fan and... well.... holy ####.

Yes!!!!!  Never gave up hope but man did it look bleak. So psyched. Best super bowl ever!!!

Belicheck to Brady: 'How about that Bevell idiot?'

Brady to Belicheck: 'What about that Shanahan moron?'

SUPERBOWL.

Super Bowl Champs with 65 million dollars in cap space, some draft picks coming from Jimmy G and TB playing another 3-5 years...doesn't get any better than this...I would be absolutely lying if I thought they were gonna pull this one off when they were down 25 (the Blount plays in the first half were so unenjoyable)...there was no doubt they were gonna score a TD when they won the coin flip...

They ended up playing cover 1, and edelman said that forced them to make dome adjustments because it was unexpected

Gentlemen, i passed out aproximately around the time they were handing out the trophy.

I made a lot of money on this game and i might have alcohol poisoning, but its been an honor.

Put me down for Brady retiring this offseason.

Also think BB potentially retires and McDaniels takes the reigns.  I feel very confident that either BB or TB will be retiring this offseason.

Don't see it all...if they were wired that way they wouldn't be where they are today...their work is not done yet...no reason they can't bring home one or two more...

Were the Blount runs in the first-half as painful for everyone else as they were for me?
Yes.  After the second carry, Lewis needed to replace him.  He looked like the ultra-patient Bell in the AFC title game.  Running into the line and not hitting what few holes there were.

Alright. I figure this is as good of a place to do this as any.
I've been on the Brady and Patriot hate train for a very long time. What we saw last night was the poise of a legendary QB and coach, and team even, to keep their cool and come from behind by 4 scores to win the Super Bowl. That was incredible.

If there was anyone out there who did not feel BB is the greatest coach of all time, I think last night squashed that.
It pains me to some degree to say this, but I will concede that Tom Brady is the best QB to play the game. What Tom Brady does with that cast... not many QBs can do that. In fact probably could count on 1 hand how many QBs ever could do that. He lost his best offensive weapon weeks ago.

Great season NE. I particularly like sticking it to Goodell. While I won't sit here and pretend deflategate didn't happen, I am not naive enough to think that every QB in the league doesn't do this as well. But that's not a debate to be had now. Enjoy another Super Bowl victory!

By the way: that was SUPER fun to watch. I was somewhat rooting for the Pats, but in the end I really didn't care. What a fun game.

It was also great to get our David Tyree/Mario Manningham/Lynn Swann/Immaculate Reception moment.  What a catch!

Life is so freakin good as a PATS fans.  And for those that saw Giselle and their family, where can I get one of those Brady's little ladies shirts for my daughter!!! I want her to have one so badly.

I'm in a daze... I don't know if it's alcohol poisoning or what... my CEO has already made "playing hurt" jokes and commented that my voice is hoarse. Brought ChickFilA Chicken mini's for the whole office. Wearing a Pats cap with my work attire and dont give a ####.

This is stupid.... we don't deserve this.
