Indefinite New England Patriots Thread (10 Viewers)

Restructured deal seems to hinge of Gronk’s ability to stay on the field.
I had the impression that the Patriots gave themselves the option to pay him more this year if they want to.

This would allow them to spend up to the cap this year and free up cap space next year and beyond.

Amount to be determined depending on signings yet to happen.

Good for Pats, pretty high numbers to reach with all the mouths to feed. I would think Hawkins has to beat out Amendola to get a spot... too many players! lol

Mike Reiss reporting that Lewis was a standout at OTA's and appeared to have his burst back. However, he expects him to be their primary kick returner and only see 15-20 snaps per game in an effort to keep him healthy and available. Reiss also noted that Gillisee looked equally as fast hitting the hole.

IMHO people are sleeping big time on Gillislee and he is likely going to have a big year. In dynasty I have seen where Lynch is going well ahead of him and I just don't get it (should be reverse). Re-draft or Dynasty I like Gillislee, but dynasty in particular where his adp is around end of the 11th after guys like Lynch, AP, L. Murray, Powell etc.

Of course im the same guy who last year thought White would have little to no value once Lewis was healthy

That being said, it would not shock me at all if the Pats lined up White and Lewis in the backfield and threw the ball 30+ times in the first half on opening night against KC with no rushing attempts.

Agreed, but I think there will be a lot of ground and pound type games and Gilly can/will give them more (maybe a lot more) in the passing game than Blount ever did. Blount had only 7 recs on 527 snaps last season while Gilly had 9 on 283 AND he is now on an offense with a much better qb and one that is more than happy to throw to rbs.

Question to Bill Belichick: "With all you have accomplished in your coaching career, what is left that you still want to accomplish?" Belichick's answer: "I'd like to go out and have a good practice today. That would be at the top of the list right now."

I still love BB's answer to a question from Mike Reiss.

Reiss: You played against Peyton Manning 20 times. What stood out to you in those games?
BB: Peyton Manning.

Edelman deal said to be two years  for $11 million with $9 million guaranteed. Apparently has $4 million in incentives as well.

Glad to see us sending Edelman some cash. Dude has sacrificed his body and given max effort for years now. No bull####, ever, it seems. One of my favorite Patriots players of the last decade.

Yeah, well he literally tried to **** our daughter, so he's not as high on my list as yours.

I think that's what he means by "sacrificed his body"

Scrolling halfway down the page, the picture of BB wearing his 10 SB rings is just plain awesome (5 wins and 2 losses as NE HC, 1 loss as a NE assistant coach, 2 wins as DC with NYG.

Pats Ring Ceremony

How many coaches come close to coaching in 10 Super Bowls????

Former Jets linebacker David Harris agrees to 2-year deal with New England Patriots, per @AdamSchefter

Patriots are playing on such a higher level than all the other teams.

If Harris has anything left in the tank he is exactly what they need...always liked him with the Jets...
One would think that he will be used situationally or on a rotational basis. Not sure he has enough in the tank to roll him out there for tons of snaps each game.

Harris is still playing at a high level after 10 years in the league. Averaging over 100 tackles per season, he had 95 tackles last season.

I didn't know they gave participation trophies in the NFL

:P
Sure do ... it's called an AFC Championship.

What I can't understand is why the Colts need a banner every time they win their division. The roof of their dome looks silly.

You beat 3 other teams. Glorious times.

Now NE just needs some team to cut an older "stud" offensive lineman. This could be the greatest team evah.

Would be entertaining to see patriots rafters if they hung divisional banners. Would basically be a calendar.

So I just re-watched the Super Bowl ... because I can't watch baseball...

Lots of greatness ... but I came away thinking the offensive line SUCKED. Brady was harassed and on his #### all night.

Pressure off the edges ... pressure up the middle ... for the first 60 plays anyway. Then the last 30 plays ATL defense was gassed.

Considering the only time they lose, the O-line is to blame, I would think they would have made an upgrade more of a priority.

Which game or games could you see the Patriots losing

1 Thu, Sep 7 Kansas City 8:30 PM

2 Sun, Sep 17 at New Orleans 1:00 PM

3 Sun, Sep 24 Houston 1:00 PM

4 Sun, Oct 1 Carolina 1:00 PM

5 Thu, Oct 5 at Tampa Bay 8:25 PM

6 Sun, Oct 15 at NY Jets 1:00 PM

7 Sun, Oct 22 Atlanta 8:30 PM

8 Sun, Oct 29 LA Chargers 1:00 PM

9 *BYE

10 Sun, Nov 12 at Denver 8:30 PM

11 Sun, Nov 19 at Oakland 4:25 PM

12 Sun, Nov 26 Miami 1:00 PM

13 Sun, Dec 3 at Buffalo 1:00 PM

14 Mon, Dec 11 at Miami 8:30 PM

15 Sun, Dec 17 at Pittsburgh 4:25 PM

16 Sun, Dec 24 Buffalo 1:00 PM

17 Sun, Dec 31 NY Jets 1:00 PM

KC, Atlanta, Denver, Oakland, Pittsburgh.... Miami in Mia can be tough. That's about it and they'll win some of them too. Anywhere from 12-4 to 16-0.

Seems their toughest opponents are played in NE. Hard to pick against the Pats in any of these.

That said, teams that beat the Patriots have a pass rush... I'll take ATL in a revenge match and throw in one "on the road" vs. PIT. 14-2

Just a gut feel. Somewhere between 14-2 and 10-6

The divisional opponents seem to make things tough and I could see 0-2 losses in the division.

1 Thu, Sep 7 Kansas City 8:30 PM

3 Sun, Sep 24 Houston 1:00 PM

5 Thu, Oct 5 at Tampa Bay 8:25 PM

I could see them possibly losing 0-1 of these 3. I include TB because they're at TB.

7 Sun, Oct 22 Atlanta 8:30 PM

10 Sun, Nov 12 at Denver 8:30 PM

11 Sun, Nov 19 at Oakland 4:25 PM

15 Sun, Dec 17 at Pittsburgh 4:25 PM

I could easily see them losing 2-3 of these 4, especially since 3 of them are away.

Pats are 72-21 in the division since 2001...best in the NFL...they have not lost more than 4 games in a season since 2009 and only three times since 2001...

Pretty amazing when you see their seasonal record since Brady has been starting:

2001-11-5

2002-9-7

2003-14-2

2004-14-2

2005-10-6

2006-12-4

2007-16-0

2008-11-5

2009-10-6

2010-14-2

2011-13-3

2012-12-4

2013-12-4

2014-12-4

2015-12-4

2016-14-2

Only 1 season with less than 10 wins.  Astonishing.

Barring injuries, the only games I see them with a decent chance of losing would be @PIT, @DEN, and @MIA.

I'm not that concerned about ATL. Ryan is 37-37 in road games and 27-27 over his career playing outdoors. KC is 0-4 in games against Brady in NE, and I doubt the Pats will have injuries to worry about in Week 1 (knock on wood).

The other potential game not getting a lot of discussion is NOS. The only time Brady played in New Orleans, the Pats got dismantled 38-17 (but that was 8 years ago).

Correction... Tom Brady suffered a season-ending injury during the first game in 2008 with a torn ACL.  His backup Matt Cassell took over the starting QB for rest of season.
I wasn't wrong.  I said "since Brady has been starting".  He began starting in 2001.  Never said, "with Brady as the starter".

They will lose at least one of @Denver, @Pittsburgh.  Throw in a couple losses to AFC East teams, and two bogies.  11-5.  Assuming no injuries of course.  Is Pollard still in the league?  :cough:

Listening to the opening presser with BB. His new answer to most things is "I don't know." Waiting for the salty Bill. Already asked over and over about going undefeated this year.  Just wants to have a good first practice tomorrow. Threw in the do you job mantra. No one cares about last year or how players did on any team in the past. Everyone competing for a job. Some of the questions just really silly.

Media to Belichick;

"How can you explain your teams success last year with fully inflated footballs?"

"Do you have someone designated to monitor your video team to make sure they tape from an enclosed area and not the sidelines?"

"Coach, do you want to win at any cost :wink wink:."

"Don't you feel that you should have to share some of your players with the teams that haven't had much success as of late?"

I don't understand the Denver love. They have clearly regressed and are close to a lottery team. The defense will decline slightly this year and the offense is a joke with 2 aging WR's. I expect NE to bend over Denver and it's not going to be close.

Pittsburgh and maybe Oakland are going to be the tough games. I will throw in a divisional loss to the Bills or Dolphins. 8-0 @home and 6-2 on the road.
