Indefinite New England Patriots Thread (4 Viewers)

Evidently Andrews already let Pats know he is interested in testing market. So this must mean the Pats didn’t offer him as much as he wanted. I’d be interested to see how Karras ranks for centers according to Pff grade. I don’t have subscription though.
You don't need a subscription if you use a search engine and put "PFF" and a player's name.

Karras player grades:
2020: 65.3, 2019: 64.5, 2018: 74.1, 2017: 73.6

Andrews player grades:
2020: 67.7, 2018: 73.3, 2017: 84.7, 2016: 70.3

Other than that one outlier for Andrews, they have been pretty similar. What doesn't make sense in Andrews saying he wants to test the market, he's been testing the market for 2 days already. Not sure his offers are going to go up with teams having less and less money available as they sign players.

Patscap updated numbers show NE with $29M in cap space not accounting for Trent Brown, Justin Bethel, Carl Davis or Ted Karras contracts.

Here's a break down of what Spotrac calculated the market value for the Pats new crop of players . . . remember the actual contract values likely have incentives and maybe some years that might never materialize).

Ted Karras: 4 years, $41M (Signed for 1 year, $4M)
Matt Judon: 4 years, $62.4M (Signed for 4 years, $54.5M)
Nelson Agholor: 2 years, $19.5 (Signed for 2 years, $22M)
Hunter Henry: 4 years, $43.8M (Signed for 3 years, $37.5M)
Jonnu Smith: 5 years, $40.4M (Signed for 4 years, $50M)
Cam Newton: 1 year, $5.5M (Signed for 1 year, $5.1M)

(Other players don't have assigned market values.)

Typo for Karras 4 years and 41 million...

NE now has the following signed at WR:

Nelson Agholor ($7M cap hit this year)
Julian Edelman ($6.1M cap hit this year, would net $3.4M in cap savings if traded or released)
Kendrick Bourne ($3.1M cap hit for this year)
N'Keal Harry ($2.7M cap hit for this year, would net $1.4M in cap savings if traded after 6/1)
Marqise Lee ($990K cap hit for this year, would net $687K in cap savings if released)
Jacobi Meyers ($860K cap hit for this year)
Gunner Olszewski ($850K cap hit for this year)
Devin Smith ($850K cap hit for this year)
Isaiah Zuber (no cap hit - not in Top 51 contracts)
Kristian Wilkerson (no cap hit - not in Top 51 contracts)

Certainly not one of the better units in the NFL . . . although they allegedly are still in on some of the bigger names in free agency.

In case people aren't aware, that means JC Jackson can explore the market and the Patriots have the right to match a contract offer or take that team's 2nd round pick as compensation. If Jackson doesn't sign elsewhere, NE would keep Jackson for one year at $3.384M (unless they agree to an extension for a different amount). Many people felt Jackson would get a first round tender (which would have been worth $4.766M). So it gives the Pats a little more cap room but opens up the possibility that another team could pursue him (especially a team with a late second round pick).

I forgot about Lee...remind me...he opted out last year but had decent production for Jax?  your take on the player?

He was good in 2016 and 2017. Was hurt all of 2018, barely played in 2019, and opted out in 2020. He blew out both his knees. 2017 is a long time ago. Who knows if he's healed up and in shape? So in 3 calendar years, he has a total of 3 catches for 18 yards. Haven't heard much about him for this year.

Could be cut candidate? Save two thirds of his salary.

Belichick is loading to make sure he has no holes to fill. When draft comes around, he’s going to make most of these picks when other teams need cheap contracts. He hasn’t been crazy on his signings. He will make the most of what he has.

Pats need be in on cb help. Gilmore coming off knee injury. Jackson easily given a second round tender. Should have been first. IMO.

Pats were in on AJ Green.
I want them to add another WR but can't say he would have done much for me...Fitz is a FA and BB has had an Ed Reed man-crush on him for awhile but I'd like it to be someone with a little more gas in the tank.

Where were you the last day, two days, three days? This really isn't news. There have been at least 3 teams interested in Harry.

This tweet sums up my opinion on Harry. LINK
Sorry, buddy. I try keep up but work gets in the way. 🥴

I’d give Gilmore he money. And keep Jackson.
He's 31 in September...you saw how quickly Revis dropped, it's just not the position where you invest big money at that age and from everything I hear Gilmore is in the Ty Law/Revis school of getting as much $ as he can...plus if the Pats want to trade up to get a QB  what they get back for Gilmore can possibly help with that.

Haha. Sorry, I’m a lot older now than 31. 🙂

They were just discussing the Gilmore / Jackson situation on the radio. Their spin was Jackson got a 2nd round tender because they want someone to give him an offer sheet and they won’t match. They can’t get any takers on a second for Gilmore, so they would take the second from Jackson to package to move up to take a QB. Then they would give Gilmore  an extension. I don’t love that plan but it would make sense.

It sounds like they may have had a package involving a 2nd yesterday for Gilmore, but they probably had to give a pick back to do it.

Interesting...if you can beef up this year and add on another year I would be fine with Gilmore but not sure he is looking for something like that and I get real nervous about age past then...sounds like they are not as high on Jackson as most fans are...kind of thought he was the future #1 but in the end whatever they need to do to get that young QB is fine with me.

A guy coming off acl surgery is 80 percent.

If you got the money keep Jackson.

Tv said acl. Tell me why he shut down due to quad?
Gilmore tore a quad the third week of December. He has one year left on his contract, one in which he received most of his money as a bonus on the front side of the deal. He is only due $7M this season, which Gilmore has essentially said he won’t be playing for. He wants market pay for a DPOY CB, which is probably at least $10M a year more. His effort and interest in playing last year was somewhat lacking. His recovery is said to be taking longer than expected. And he’ll be 31 at the start of the season. What to do with him? That’s the conundrum.

Resign him.
