No one really knows what will happen. I've heard speculation that they could pass on all the QBs and Harrison, stay at #3, and take Alt at OT. Someday teams will learn that taking so many QBs early usually doesn't work out so well.

They will learn when the position isn’t by far the most important position in the game…it is damned if you do and damned if you don’t…the key is being able to identify the legit studs, not forcing it if you are not sold on them and then developing them correctly with the understanding it is not one-size-fits-all with how you do it.

I just don’t see Cousins being an option…there is absolutely no reason for him to want to finish his career here.
 
A lot of chatter about the Pats targeting Tyron Smith…would really like that a lot…they have a ton of cap space and big money on a short-term contract would make a ton of sense…put him at LT and a quality rookie and/or younger FA at RT while also signing Mike O and you could settle things down real quickly at O line…Smith is 33 so he is not a long-term answer there but you would have plenty of time to figure that out while helping your QB develop short-term.

Pats use transition tag on Duggar and do not use the franchise tag on Mike O…I am good with the strategy on Duggar…I am just ok with him coming back but he is definitely not the guy to over-pay so by doing this they can see what his value is on the open market then decide…with all their cap space I would like to see Mike O re-signed…the O line already has enough holes with him…no need to create another hole.

If NE opts not to match a high ball offer, they get nothing in return. I can't remember, if they opt to let Dugger sign elsewhere, would he count toward the compensatory pick formula (not that it will matter much as they will be signing a lot of free agents).

I believe if they do not match they get nothing in return and he will also not count towards the compensatory formula.

Oh man, why not tag Mike O and insure you have some semblance of an O line? Just don't think he's sticking around once he hits free agency. Somebody will severely overpay.
 
I hope for the Patriots sake they don't think Okorafor is a starter. I also hope they aren't paying him more than 4-5 million. He's a swing caliber guy.

With the shape they are at at Tackle he is a body that breathes which is a vast improvement over what they have.

Than what they have, sure, from Trent Brown/Mike Onwenu, he's a vast downgrade.

Both are FA's now....Brown is a goner and if Mike O comes back I think he will stick to Guard...I think he is there just for depth purposes...they have so many holes on this team they need to start somewhere.
 
Okorafor (1 year for $4M) isn't any better than the main tackles that were on the NE roster. His PFF scores have been 60.4, 61.2, 63.6, 57.5, 58.3, and 50.8. There's a reason why he lost his starting job with PIT. He will be a liability on any snap that he ends up taking for the Pats. The primary tackles last year had scores of: Brown 80.2, Onwenu 71.5, McDermott 67.8, Sow 64.4. Tyron Smith would help . . . if they could actually sign him. There aren't many reliable free agent tackles on the market. Smith has already made $120M over his career. If I had to guess, I doubt he will be swayed by a little extra money to come to NE. IMO, he will chase a sing go somewhere that's a contender with a shot at a SB.

We should start wondering what's going on in that the Pats haven't been able to re-sign any of their free agents. They have a ton of cap room, yet it appears they are still holding on to the mantra that "we have to win every contract based on value". There aren't many better free agent options compared to their own guys on the market. Onwenu, Brown, Henry, Uche, Dugger, and Bourne were productive players, and even role players like Mack Wilson and Pharoah Brown had solid seasons. Sure, those guys aren't All Pro talents, but who are they going to replace them with (and from where)?

Great news…seeing 3 years with a max-value of 30 mil (I am sure there will be some fine print on that)…Henry will never be an All Pro but he is a solid all-around TE and from all accounts has turned into a veteran leader…besides re-signing a good player the Pats did not have another TE on the roster so this will allow for a little more flexibility this off-season.
 
I feel like, not having checked numbers, that Henry established himself as an emerging all star for the chargers who's value was under-estimated because his last name wasn't spelled Gates.
 
Thought for the day. Pats waved goodbye to Bill and at least 6 teams hired a retread or unproven commodity while Bill sat at the house. Count me in the group that will be screaming blue bloody murder if this group of 7 underperforms.
 
Say what you will about Alex Van Pelt but he did scheme to get the ball to Njoku in CLE, so even a slight upgrade at QB could be a huge bump for Henry.

If we want to consider that, we need to consider that for now NE has no QB, no OL, no receivers, and no Chubb. So sure, if they ever get to the point where they fill all those holes with competent players, then maybe Henry could benefit. Henry's not a high target TE, and his fantasy value is mostly based on being a red zone target . . on a team that rarely gets to the red zone. He is what he is . . . a TD dependent, inconsistent, bottom half TE2 for fantasy in PPR leagues.
 
Random thoughts:

* Starting to wonder if tagging Dugger was a mistake. Lot of safeties hitting the market now. May be a depressed market.

* Don't understand the interest in Jeudy. Glad CLE got him. Mediocre talent. Sign Bourne.

* Wonder if they could get some RB talent cheap? Lot of good backs on the market.

* Really, really, really hoping they sign big Mike prior to noon tmrw.

* Sign Brisset at 12:01 tmrw.

* Please don't bother with C. Ridley or M. Brown.

* If you want to watch film of the QBs, go check out Hayden Winks. Top Notch. He's my go to guy for all things fantasy and football (besides FBGs). While it seems like D. Maye is sliding, that may be a good thing. Watching film, that kid can run, rocket arm. His WRs were also terrible last year not doing him any favors. Something tells me J. Daniels could be a bit overrated. He was throwing to TWO of the top WRs in this years draft. Kinda reminds me of some AL QB a couple years ago that constantly was throwing to wide open guys deep in college. Hmmm.

* If NE does trade down from 3, I really hope they trade back into the end of the first round and grab either A. Mitchell or B. Thomas at WR.

Looks like it's for a 6th-round pick...was hoping it would get a little competitive for him so they could get a bit more but they really didn't have any hand here...little surprised it was the Jags...thought it would be to a team with more of a shaky QB situation...good move for them since it only cost a 6th...if Lawrence gets hurt you could be doing a lot worse than having Jones be your #2...I think it will do the kid good to sit for a year and re-set his career.

Probably a good thing they moved quickly. A lot of QBs out there. May have had to cut him outright in a week or 2.

I like the speed at which they are moving. Hope they continue to be fast and decisive.
 
Will be very surprised if NE goes after Tee Higgins.

And I kinda don't want them to. Guy has a hard time staying on the field and I could see him being disgruntled in a rebuild.

I would be very surprised if they didn't (especially if they are adding a young QB...they need to put him in a position to succeed which means O line and WR help)...Pats need to add a legit WR and they have a ton of cap space the next two years so they can put a contract together that doesn't hurt them....a WR unit of Higgins-Douglas-Bourne-JuJu is not the disaster it has been.

I don't see where there is much chance that they get Higgins. I don't see them giving up two likely very early firsts for Higgins (and IMO they shouldn't) to sign him as a franchised tagged free agent. I am not sold that Higgins is a bonafide, top-shelf, game changing WR1 . . . especially on a very poor offense. Of WR that played in at least 20 games since he entered the league, Higgins ranks 17th in ypr, 23rd in yds/gm, and 25th in TD/gm. He would be an upgrade over what they have, but I don't think of him as a total game changer like Jefferson, Chase, or Hill.

I am not sure what they would have to fork over in a trade, given that they would also have to shell out probably $100M to sign him. Allegedly, this draft is supposed to be very deep in WRs. IMO, they have so much work to do to resurrect the offense that they won't be able to right size everywhere all at once. If they need a QB, a stud WR, and 2 top end OT, not sure they can gather all that over the next month or two. Who knows if JJSS and Bourne can get healthy and contribute. JuJu and Parker were mistakes, and they should probably just cut bait and move on . . . but until they have other options they sort of have to stick around. I'm guessing Thornton is close to being declared a bust as well. At this point, there are so many question marks involving the offense that it's hard to tell what might work and what might not.

Two #1’s or even one #1 is a non-starter…the #2 would be on the table because there is a good chance they could be taking a WR there anyways…this will not be a one-season turnaround…BB left the O in a complete shambles…that being said they need to be sniffing around everything…Higgins is a high quality WR and would greatly aid in the development of a young QB….if they do go QB at #3 everything revolves on putting that player in the best situation to succeed.
 
Wonder if the price for Fields is dropping. If you can get him for that early 4th, it could be tempting.

A. Gibson to the Pats? Interesting. They do need a third down back. Hope it's a cheap deal though. Shocked all these RBs are flying off the board. Thought that market was depressed.
 
Gibson might have a career year in NE. Just seems like a GREAT fit for his skill set. Pats need receivers, and a likely rookie QB making plenty of dump offs to his receiving back. Got him in the 15th round of a SF PPR Dynasty startup a few months ago and couldn't be happier with the landing spot :pickle:

Would Ridley move the needle much? This is his age 30 season. It's usually down hill from this point forward.

In general, NE really hasn't improved so far by keeping some of their guys but for more money. They brought in a mediocre offensive lineman and a decent second RB. For an offense that was a total mess, that won't change anything. (Granted, it's still very early.)

I don't think it is just about moving the needle in W's and L's...they have a long way to go in that area...it is also about putting the young QB (if that is what they do in the draft) in the best position to succeed which is the most important thing if they do use that #3 on one...if they were tight with the cap I would have no interest in Ridley but with all the space they have it is a luxury they can afford if they want to.

I don't think it is just about moving the needle in W's and L's...they have a long way to go in that area...it is also about putting the young QB (if that is what they do in the draft) in the best position to succeed which is the most important thing if they do use that #3 on one...if they were tight with the cap I would have no interest in Ridley but with all the space they have it is a luxury they can afford if they want to.

Agree.

Need a legit option out there for a couple years.

An offense that includes Ridley, Bourne, Pop, insert 2nd round WR here, H. Henry, Rhamandre, Gibson isn't so...laughable.

It depends what he signs for. I wouldn't give him 4/$100M. I'd rather they drafted a WR than do that . . . or trade for someone. Just because they need a WR doesn't mean they should take the last guy standing and overpay him.

I would drop out the guys they already had . . . we saw what they did (plus Bourne may not even be 100%) That means the new faces would be Ridley, a second round WR, and Gibson. They've missed on a ton of second round receivers, so I have little faith that player would do much his first year. IMO, Damien Harris and Stevenson were a better pair than Stevenson and Gibson. IMO, this would turn the #32 ranked offense into the #25 ranked offense if their new QB panned out. Still not impressed if that was what they ended up with . . . but that's the thing. We don't know what they would end up with as of yet.

If you can figure out another way to upgrade the WR I am all in as long as they do it...Ridley is an option based on being available and the Pats having a ton of cap space...if they can add another legit WR or two and upgrade the tackle position they will be in a far better spot than they were with last year's train wreck.
