Bottom of the last inning. Tie score, runners on second and third, two outs. 2-2 count on the batter. Pitcher throws an inside breaking ball. The batter swings and misses the ball but upon missing the ball strikes the batter on his right foot and shoots up behind the catcher. Runner runs to first base safely and runner advances to home without being tug out for the apparent winning run. What's the call here?

no dead ball, he swung. game over.dude, i thought you played baseball?
I do. This actually happened in a recent game of mine. Home-plate ump initially ruled it a live third strike and therefore a valid scored run. However, the shy base ump discussed it with him after I had been screaming in his ear during the play that it was a dead ball and they reversed the call. Lotta opinions, takes, and craziness at the time because both teams were arguing like crazy, we already started to pack our stuff up, etc. I argued for the sequence of events to be a valid third strike, followed by a dead ball which means no runners can advance. Therefore, with a valid third strike he is out and game goes to extras. I won the argument, but am unsure if I'm right. I don't think you are though.

As a corollary, if there had not already been two outs, the following rule would have come into play:

6.08 The batter becomes a a runner and is entitled to first base without liability to be put out ... when :(b) APPROVED RULING: When a batter is touched by a pitched ball that does not entitle him to first base, the ball is dead and no runner may advance

Pretty simple, really:

Rule 6.05 A batter is out when:

(f) He attempts to hit a third strike and the ball touches him

You mean it would go to extra innings... score was tied at the time of the at-bat with two runners on
Then yes, batter out, inning over
i stand corrected. i guess it eliminates the drop 3rd strike rule if it hits him.
