Is any top DE safe? (1 Viewer)

Just lost another solid DE to the ever expanding ranks of the OLB with the Chandler Jones trade. Wondering which DE's we can confidently count on.

Of course there is never a guarantee when it comes to this subject outside of Watt, but who can we trust investing our resources in for dynasty.?

Are you wondering about this due to positional changes down the road that take out a DL that you have invested in an now he is reclassified or are you wanting to know for performance wise which DL will be top tier guys?  These are two distinct questions.

For the position reclassification issue it is tough to say as coaches and schemes change all the time.  Try and invest in coaching staffs that have shown proven production and stability with players that match those schemes.  They should remain have as much positional stability as anywhere.  Teams like the Patriots that jump in an out of schemes always run the risk of reclassification (there was talk going into last year or the year before of Chandler Jones being reclassified while still on NE) and that is always a risk.

He should still be productive in that spot and if your league gives bonus for DT scoring (mine does) even better.
same here. a change to DT (as long as he is still productive) is a boon to those in leagues that break out the DT position.

I don't see why his production should slip much.  He played inside a lot as a 3-4 DE and was disruptive there.  I don't think this change will affect his production and I am buying where I can (especially in DT required leagues).

sorry wasn't speaking to his production specifically, just DT in general

It's the reclassification issue that causes most of the problem. Thankfully its not that difficult identifying talented edge rushers but we never know what's going to happen with each coach/scheme change.

I'm at the point now that I'd rather not invest much in trading for a DE or use a high rookie pick for one since they may not stay at that position very long.

My idea for this thread was to share info on who to watch for that will likely be reclassified into the DE position or out of it.

An example would be Brandon Graham who might be reclassified back to DE this year with the new coach/scheme change. I'll be trying to pick up a guy like this on the cheap before he officially changes from LB to DE on MFL.

Fletcher Cox is about to be a DT so I would trade him now before he falls off a cliff.
Almost all of the leagues I play in have designated DT slots separate from DE. I drafted Cox thinking he'd be a stud 3-tech DT, and while he's been very productive as a 5-tech end in a 34, this is the moment I've been patiently waiting for. He instantly becomes a top-3 DT, and if I didn't already have him, I'd be scrambling hard to acquire him.
