President Biden went on the Jimmy Kimmel show recently and said this:

What do you guys think? Is this appropriate? Why or why not? 

Biden using an analogy to talk about Republicans who purportedly threaten democracy. 

"You gotta send 'em to jail. That little box in there." 

"Go Directly To Jail?" 

"Yeah."

Anybody offended by that clip needs to go read the Woke thread - you may just find one of your own posts helpful.

 
To me?  I have no issue with it.  I'm not a woke little snowflake though.  However, if during the Trump administration he'd ever made a comment like that he would have been impeached.  The double standard gets tiring.

I was actually encouraged by it.  It was quick and even a little witty, showing that he still has some cognitive abilities left.

 
We should really try to get away from the president and other political leaders talking about jailing the opposition.  I understand that this was probably just a joke that didn't land, but we're supposed to be learning lessons from 1/6.

Please… this is the “little shiny talking point” inside of a pretty decent interview and in the shadow of the January 6 committee hearings, so it’s a deflection of more important issues at hand.

but I’ll respond: the joke did land.  The crowd laughed at it, Jimmy thought it was a quick retort (and as stated above shows that Biden’s faculties are there), and made sense in the context of the game of monopoly which was the whole point of the discussion in the first place. It’s not like he pulled “lock them up” from the ether. He took it from the actual game they were discussing.

 
I didn’t have a problem with it, considering it as on Kimmel’s show.  It would be very inappropriate in a SOTU speech.

Luther, the Obama anger translator, was a great key and peele bit that Obama used at the WH correspondents dinner. I’m sure if he tricked Luther out at a SOTU it likely doesn’t play as well either.

Well now, we are getting into a pretty weedy discussion now about TV and silliness. There is a lot out there and even as a liberal Democrat there are some on “my team” I could kind of do without bc they hurt more than the help, and more importantly some things just can’t be funny unless you look at it sideways or are a genius like Rock, Chapelle, Burr etc. 

The view is an “open mike” kind of show and as Howard Stern calls it “a bunch of yentas mixing it up”. It does nothing for me in terms of social commentary or anything else (quite frankly) but it exists and good for them. I use the age old adage of “if you don’t like it, don’t watch it”. 
 

now this is obviously different but Biden (as POTUS) on a comedy show has some meaning but again it’s a comedy show so it should be taken as such. Obama has/had a great sense of humor and Trump had no sense of humor. We kind of need to grade on a curve here.

I’m not disagreeing with you.  I would expect a little something like that on Kimmel’s show.  I’m just not going to grade anything based on the crowd’s reaction.  The crowd at any of these shows is always going to support the host.

You know the "CLAP"     flashed.   The trained Kimmel seals clapped and laughed.    It was obviously a joke.   It just wasn't funny.

It is a joke an elderly person or your grandpa would make trying to be funny.

Offensive?  Not to me, but just stupid for Biden to say.

 
Democrats are no better than Republican's - c'mon Joe and in fact they're worse IMO with bullying and racism and hate 

Proof? Joe's Jimmy special ... hating on Republicans over and over, blame blame blame and Joe meant it - jailing would be ok if he could get away with it

 
Biden on jimmy Kimmel tells you all you need to know about our president, which isn't a good thing. I didn't know idiot Jimmy was still on the air. People watch that garbage?

This.  Context is always important.  He was also talking about monopoly jail. So 3 quick rolls (or a double) and they’re out again.  No one should be afraid of monopoly jail.
