Is Cincy a legitimate contender to go (1 Viewer)

They look putrid. :X
Overreact much? They wont be good this year, but ESPN and ProFootballWeekly ratings that have them last in the NFL are also overreacting to the departure of big name players. The Bengals will not have the worst record in the NFL when all is said and done - they should win 3-5 games. The Lions did look impressive in the opener, especially the D. I give them credit - they look to be on the verge of making the play-offs, with some luck and if they can sustain the strong level of play through the season.

Not that I think they will go 0-16 but I think this is the one team that stands out right now as the worst in the NFL. I think you may be underreacting to the departure of big name players.

The difference between a 3 win team and a winless team is not that much. Yes, it is not very likely, but it is not that far-fetched with a few bad breaks.

Almost all the teams with new QBs are going to start slow.

Kolb/Hasselbeck/Dalton/Tarvaris/McNabb all looked terrible...that's not a coincidence.

Don't underestimate the effect of the lockout. It's going to take several more weeks to work out the kinks, learn the new systems.

I think the skins and bengals will both not have more than 2 wins.
That being said the Bengals could easily come out of the first two games with two wins.Week 1: Cleveland

2: Denver

3: San Fran

4: Buffalo
Good lord that is a friendly start to the year. Bengals could be 16-0!
Fixed :D While I expect it to be a long year, the overreaction to 1 preseason game has been pretty comical. Benson actually was running the ball very effectively and that's going to matter more than Dalton will this year. I'm concerned about the defense, but there's a lot of new guys there too so it'll take a little time there as well.

:goodposting: This is especially true for rookie QBs. By the way, McNabb has not play yet.

San Francisco looks horrible to me. Even worse, they have a brutal schedule when it comes to 10AM games and short-turnarounds between games. Harbaugh is going to have it tough.

:goodposting: that was not good, I'll give them one or two more weeks before a major tweek, but I have a draft tomorrow and I'll be staying away from Niners.

Their schedule this year is much easier than last year. They get the NFC West and AFC South. While not all rookies, five of the eight teams have new QBs. Other than their division games, the other 2 games are Buffalo and Denver. If they somehow manage to go 0-16 with their schedule, they definitely deserve the #1 pick.

correctDo you have anything useful to add to this thread or is this just more pissing and LHUCKS stalking from you? That's what I thought...please return to your Packer fanboy threads...tia.

I didn't see the Bengals play but you need to under-estimate the importance of preseason - remembering that 2008 Lions went 4-0 in preseason.

What did I get wrong exactly?? I watch every single game. Was completely aware of who has and hasn't played a preseason game.the sooner you learn how to read, the better off this forum will benow quit pissing, this is somebody's thread that you just posted three worthless posts in...I'm sure he doesn't appreciate it.

What's their over/under for wins in Vegas?
Line is 5.5 wins and it is at -135, so the money is coming in on the over.Tivo'd the game and read this thread before watching the game. Based on the comments, I was expecting a disaster. Dalton actually did a decent job moving the offense. He had 4 drives. After a bad pick on the first one, he led the Bengals into Detroit territory the other 3 setting up 2 field goal chances. Benson was running well and Dalton finished 11-15, although most were dumpoffs. He rushed a couple of throws but looked about as good as you could expect for a second round pick coming in with limited offseason. I think Gradkowski starts the first 5 or 6 games and Dalton comes in after the bye.Simpson and Green may have WR3/Flex value in PPR as they will catch a bunch of short passes in this offense. Can see them both collecting alot of 6 catches for 50 yards with a TD thrown in every now and then. Take a look at the cupcake schedule. No way they go winless this year and 7-9 isnt out of the question. Vegas puts them at 6-10. They could easily be 4-2 heading into Week 7 bye.1 Sep 11 CIN @ CLE 2 Sep 18 CIN @ DEN 3 Sep 25 SF @ CIN 4 Oct 02 BUF @ CIN 5 Oct 09 CIN @ JAC 6 Oct 16 IND @ CIN 7 Bye 8 Oct 30 CIN @ SEA 9 Nov 06 CIN @ TEN 10 Nov 13 PIT @ CIN 11 Nov 20 CIN @ BAL 12 Nov 27 CLE @ CIN 13 Dec 04 CIN @ PIT 14 Dec 11 HOU @ CIN 15 Dec 18 CIN @ STL 16 Dec 24 ARI @ CIN 17 Jan 01 BAL @ CIN

"Is Cincy a legitimate contender to go winless?"

That is an interesting question.

I mean Cincy has put in the necessary work in the offseason to get the job done but it is a daunting task.

Get rid of your starting QB without getting anything in return? Check

Trade your former probowl WR? Check

Lose your previous year's most prolific WR? Check

Spend your high first round pick on a WR prospect? Check

Prepare to start either a rookie QB or Oakland Raider castoff? Check

But is that enough?

Unfortunately, as others have put in, they have a tough schedule and I don't think they will be clutch enough or have enough intestinal fortitude to accomplish the goal.
