It's time to start taking the Denver Broncos seriously, people! (1 Viewer)

Maybe this could be the start of the official team thread here, but I don't know why people aren't talking about the Denver Broncos as a playoff contender. Yeah, they're 5-3 right now, but they have been the biggest surprise so far this season. I'm officially going to say this: THE BRONCOS WILL GO INTO BALTIMORE NEXT WEEK AND BEAT THE RAVENS AND THEN IN TWO WEEKS, THEYRE GOING TO GO INTO KANSAS CITY AND BEAT THE CHIEFS! Like I said before, maybe this will be the start of the official team thread, but the Broncos are to be taken seriously! When is everyone going to realize that??!!!!

All 32 teams already have official team threads, along with lots of individual players. The main thread is "stickied" on the Shark Pool front page and here it is...

their wins a have come against teams with a combined record of 11-29.....might need t pump the brakes just a little....

and I disagree.....I think they lose the next two....

I don't know if I can get on board that they are playoff bound but I am fully on board the Bo Nix train. He's currently my only QB on the roster.

Playoffs may seem ludicrous.
But who else is stepping up in the AFC.

There are 4 good football teams plus the Steelers. Somebody else has to make the Playoffs.
Chargers seem like a lock at this point.

Bengals, Dolphins, and Jets have a lot of people that think they are good, but they all might royally suck.

I hate the Broncos and Peyton. But they have a good defense and know who they are.

I'd be shocked if the Broncos don't make it in this dumpster fire Conference.

I'm far more confident in the Browns taking the Broncos out of the Playoff picture than I am the Dolphins and Jets. I think the Bengals have a better chance of sliding in, but that franchise seems like it might be broken.

Chargers and Broncos seem like nearly certain WC teams. With Dolphins/Jets/Bengals/Browns fighting it out for the last spot. Unless Anthony Richardson gets hurt. In that case add the Colts.

Define serious?

I don't like Sean Payton, think he's an overrated offensive mind, at least in today's NFL. But he does know how to build tough teams and that's what he's built, a tough team. That goes a long way. But I don't see them as serious contenders or anything. Does anyone?

It's a little ironic in that a few years ago we saw the AFC West make a bunch of high profile acquistions for offensive talent and I know I thought it was going to be this massive high scoring division that would make people think of early days of the high scoring AFL these teams one belonged. Now with the Chiefs, Chargers and Bronco's it's in the running for the most physical and strong defensive brand of football played in any conference.

I could see it. right now they are the 5th seed. I don't know about beating the Ravens or the Chiefs but I think they have 6 or 7 games that are winable and winning 5 of those is probably a shoo-in right?

I appreciate your misplaced enthusiasm

Not sure they are playoff bound, but anyone who doubts Payton’s ability and what he’s done so far in Denver is delusional.

Well......, they are not doormats........, or are they....

Nah, they're not doormats, haven't personally laid eyeballs on Nix yet...seems to be improving each week though from what I'm reading......

Russ looks pretty good in black and gold

Giggle all you like. Broncos got their guy and it's not even close
I'm just laughing at the fact that somehow Sean Peyton couldn't do anything with Wilson, yet in Pittsburgh he looks like a different guy.

And agree - Nix looks legit. Chiefs are gonna have a problem with him for awhile. Denver needs to keep Vance Joseph also, no matter the cost.

Actually, Payton deserves a lot more credit than he gets for bringing Wilson back to life.

When Russ first arrived in Denver in 2022 he was an overweight prima donna who demanded his own office and entourage.

Payton was hired and stopped all that, Russ was forced to get in shape and he went from 16/11 TD/INT ratio to 26/8

It was just never going to be a good system fit

Russ just couldn’t run the Payton system. It also appears Russ is coming back down to Earth.

Easy Week 18 vs KC back ups to roll into the Playoffs 10-7, pretty good year for a team I never took seriously
I like what I see from Bo Nix in this offense, not sure he succeeds everywhere in the NFL or with another head coach but the one he has matches well with his skill set

Agreed. Seems like the perfect marriage of Coach and QB at this stage.

Watch out for Denver in 2025.

Broncos D was #3 in scoring defense and #2 in both passing and rushing yards allowed, also #7 in turnovers forced and #2 in the NFL in average starting field position for their offense. They've replaced Cody Barton at starting ILB with Dre Greenlaw and superseded Ja'Quan McMillian at CB and PJ Locke at SS with Jahdae Barron and Talanoa Hufanga. Pat Surtain and Jahdae Barron is a nightmare CB pair for opposing QBs. There's definitely some risk in this attempted upgrade since Denver is banking on bounce-back seasons from Greenlaw and Hufanga but if that happens they could be a special squad.

Continued improvement on offense should also be expected with their whole OL and WR corps returning, Bo Nix getting a year under his belt, and upgrades at TE and RB.

They're getting 20:1 to win the AFC West which I think is a great bet because of their high potential to improve over last season. Their floor is insecure because their schedule is so difficult but it's so easy to imagine scenarios where they breakthrough with a massive season.

Progression isn't linear. It's very possible that Bo Nix takes a step back this year as teams have more tape on him and DCs adjust.

I am not a huge fan of their draft. I feel they are still woefully thin at running back. I also think they should’ve targeted a second wide receiver.

Now there are going to be a ton of unsigned free agents that could change everything. I just feel Denver needs to sign a “known” veteran running back to help take some pressure off Nix.

The defense is going to be rock solid.

I don’t know how I feel about drafting a punter, but we will see how that works out.

Sounds like Dre Greenlaw tore his quad working out. Man. not an unluckier NFL player over the last 15 months.
It's only a strain. The original Bay Area reporting was inaccurate. He'll be ready for training camp according to updated Denver sources

I think Denver will be in the mix in Division race. Who knows, AFC West could look like last years NFC North.
Or maybe KC drops a little and we see a 3 way tie at 11-6 or 10-7.

Also, I think Denvers real run at Titles will begin in '26.

Just mentioned this in another thread, but the AFC West is going to be as tough as any division. The Raiders are drastically better on paper and the 3 playoff teams all should be slightly improved as well.
