Is Curry a Starter Every Week? (1 Viewer)

I know Curry torched the Lions and he does not play them every week, but is he a starter

every week or just when the matchups are right? This week he is against Denver(bailey and bly). They shut down Evans this past weekend and Evans is better than Curry? right...

He's a solid player, but considering that apparently Russell signed, Curry may have a rookie QB throwing to him once the Raiders are mathimatically eliminated from the playoffs.

A rookie QB is not a good thing for a WR.

I believe(per rotowire), that he pulled a hammy at the end of the game. You might check it before using him next week.

Worrying about a rookie QB that may or may not start in a few months seems silly to me.

Curry is a solid WR3 option, I would say.

The question was "Is Curry a Starter Every Week" so I looked further down the road.

Down the stretch last year, he was probably a WR1, with someone I don't even remember throwing him the ball.

I think he's a solid WR2, and a very nice wr3.

The Russell situation isn't as worrisome to me as the injury past. I think he can honestly put up 1000 yards this year, but I'd sure as hell be looking to sell high regardless.

If you look at how he finished the season last year you can see he has become the WR1 option in Oak and he's proving his worth. He's a starter every week IMO. And he'll score like your WR1 at times as well, especially in PPR leagues. His past health does pose some risk to injury but considering his ADP the risk is lower than other guys with top 20 upside.

Who has higher upside (NOT WDIS, I DON'T HAVE EITHER)...Currey or Marshall?????
funny. those are the EXACT 2 WRs I'm deciding on for next week in one of my leagues. For the entire season, all things considered including potential for injury, I think I likeMarshall. For the short term, I plan on riding Currey til he drops. That said, Denver plays the Raiders this weekend and I'm leaning towards Marshallcuz of the better matchup. Still undecided.

I hadn't really focused on Curry before, but I was just doing some statistical work on him and I think he has a lot of upside this season (if he doesn't get hurt).

Curry caught 70% of his targets last year, despite playing on a team with a ridiculous offense and terrible quarterbacking, which tells me he was really getting open and catching the ball when thrown to him. Overall, Oakland's QBs completed just under 55% of their passes vs. an NFL average of 59.8% (for QBs) last season. So when you consider how awful the passing game was last year, Curry's performance is really pretty eye-popping.

Add a new coach who is familiar with modern passing offenses, add two semi-servicable QBs, subtract one Randy Moss (making Curry the #1 receiver and adding targets) and you get a recipe for a very substantial upgrade in productivity.

This all goes out the window if the Raiders try to play JaMarcus Russell...

I have always liked Curry & took notice of his tear in the final weeks of 2006. I made sure I got him in both of FF teams this this year, even reached a little in both (10th round).

I know he has an injury history, so I picked him as a WR5 with major upside. That said, he is now my starting WR3 in both leagues. I only had the guts to start him in 1 league last week, but it paid off. Benching him cost me a win in the other.

He will not leap frog Boldin as my #2 in my line up (16 team) as of yet.

So the answer is no. AT least when it comes to "every week".

He needs another week or two. As such, if you have #20+ WR as your #2, I think you probably do insert Curry now.

 hammy update?
His hammy is fine. Don't know where/how it was reported that he had a hammy issue. I've checked a dozen places and there's nothing to report.
Yahoo sports has the quote rotoworld used
IIRC, KFFL, Rotoworld, and Yahoo all use the same information. No one else is reporting it but them and I have no idea where they got it from. I don't see it anywhere else.

Has anyone projected his stats out to 16 games yet?
Well, he probably isn't going to get 12 targets a week. I would figure he gets like 135 targets total (15 weeks x 9 targets/wk) and catches 67% (he caught 70% last year and 76% in '04) of them, so ~90 catches. At say 12 yds/catch that is 1,080 yards. Take your guess on TDs, but I would think 4-6 sounds like a reasonable guess.

in start 3 wr leagues, as long as he isn't on the injury report, absolutely start him regardless of matchup

whenever he's been giving opportunity/health, he's produced

this kid has real talent and I'm calling top 10 numbers at the end of the year (if he plays at least 15 games)

as mentioned before, russell would hurt his value, but i really can't see him getting on the field before at least week 8

last 4 games of 06 seasontargets/catches9/814/913/118/5i don't think your estimate is too far off given the last 5 games he's played. However, I think there is some upside in targets given the last 5 games played.Although i think the TD's will be in the 6-8 range. More like 2004 than injury plagued 2005/6

I can't see Russell getting on the field at all this year. When you miss training camp it curbs your learning. They don't have time during the week to teach him the playbook and get him reps. He may get scout team reps, but that is not going to help him. He will learn behind McCown and Cpepp this year, and even if the Raiders suck bad, I can't see them giving him the ball. Next year, he will have all mini camps, preseason games, etc. to be ready. Remember McNair did not play at all during his first year. Russell is sitting, and Curry could be a stud all year

you are probably right, i was just worst case scenario"ing"

As if you needed more uncertainty on this question, you've probably already read that McCown has a cracked finger, and C-Pep may start this week.

I need Curry to make up for Kennison and/or Bruce as WR3 in two leagues, so I am keeping a close eye on this.

I don't disagree that there is upside to both targets and TDs. My estimate was really more of a baseline.

A rookie QB is not a good thing for a WR.
And Josh McCown is? He played freaken WR for the Lions last year.I don't think Curry is an every week starter. Detroit has one of the bottom 3 secondaries in the league. If he's going against a trash defense and he's healthy, he's a start.

If he's going up against a good to very good defense, sit him. He unfortunately sat on my bench last week and due to the matchup of this week, he's going to sit there again.

1. Detroit- Worst pass defense in the NFL

2. McCown shattered his index finger

3. Russell signed a contract.

I would deal Curry as fast as possible. Not saying he is not a good WR, but things will go downhill fast when Russell takes over.

I suspect it will be several weeks if not months before we see Russell.

dont sell right now. if he pans against denver its just meh new QB and they played denver, but if he is even average against them, his value will skyrocket.

im holding for the long haul. schedule not bad..will play from behind..who else they going to throw to? and he actually has a pretty good track record when healthy. only sell i could see is on the injury concerns..

ETA: injury concerns from prior years, not bogus week 1 injury report..

I will be starting him @ WR3.

He has started where he left off last year.

Consistancy is becoming more and more prevalent

in his game. A FF #3 WR every week, imo.

Is Curry better than Greg Jennings and Wes Welker? Fantasy wise, of course.

What order would you put the 3 in?

Waaaayyyyy above Jennings & Welker.

Jennings hasn't looked particularly great and could conceivably lose his job at some point, and it will be very difficult to predict what Welker & Stallworth do in any given week. Curry is clearly the #1 option on his team, which counts for a lot in fantasy.

And Culpepper > McCown, I think. Definitely do not expect Russell to get in there very soon, if at all this year.

I'm keeping him benched this week because I already have 3 solid options and am scared of Denver...but if you're down to an Isaac Bruce or someone, I may take a shot with him.
