Is Dustin Keller going to be the man at TE for the Jets this year? (1 Viewer)

The Fins start a former DL at OLB that has little coverage experience. I'm figuring Mangini would love to put Keller in against him. Baker is the starter

Dustin Keller will be the man. FAVRE loves the guy. He is as talented as they come. and regardless of who was there before... this is a business right? The best players will play. Expect to see Dustin lined up at slot, WR, and TE and get plenty of reps, including TD's in the first game. YES'R!

As a Jets homer I hope they get Keller involved right away. I think it will happen not because of the Jets scheming for him to get all these touched but because Favre will likely have his training wheels on for the first few games when it comes to play availability. He is no doubt the most talented receiver. I think in double TE sets or when Keller is lined up in the slot he won't hesitate to throw it too him. That being said, temper your expectations for now, he is a rookie, has competition for red zone looks with Baker and Franks, and has a QB new to the system. THere is no doubt, however, Keller will be a mismatch at various points this season.

He can't block, so he won't be the starter. He will be a situational receiver. Expect some good games, but I wouldn't rely on him consistently - not yet anyway. He's good to have in a best-ball format.

I have him, Fasano and Utect in the subscriber contest but I also have him in a start up dynasty league with Fasano and Boss. I'm starting him week 1 against the Phish. I may get spanked because of this decision but I have 3 unproven guys at TE.

Seriously?Coles & Cotchery down?

Nevermind. It just dawned on me you are talking about between Keller vs. Baker.

Carry on.

He's basically a WR. I expect to see him getting a lot of snaps split out wide, so it doesn't really matter if he can't block. I think he could break the "rookie TEs are worthless" rule this year.

That's not what I meant, sorry to confuse. I meant he is the most talented TE on the team, not receiving option on the Jets. I should have been more precise.

:lmao: He's actually my pick to be the "breakout" rookie WR this year. The kid has the pedigree, production, and ability to make an immediate impact. Think Shockey. I think DeSean Jackson will lead rookie WRs in yards, but I think Keller will be the most impressive rookie pass catcher.

Until we have a regular season game to gauge Keller by, and how he gets used, this is conjecture at it's most extreme.

They used him in 2 TE sets, in the slot and in 4WR formations in practice and preseason. How often they use those formations I am sure will change week to week, depending on opponents. It's really anyone's guess, but mine is that he will have several very big weeks, mixed in with a lot of invisable ones this year. If they think they can get an LB mismatch to cover him, he'll get plenty of targets... but only in those games... very game plan dependent.
