Is Harry Reid Senile? (1 Viewer)

As the recession that began in December 2007 worsened throughout 2008 and into 2009, many families saw their financial status plummet.1 Unemployment rates climbed to their highest levels since the early 1980s, the average length of unemployment reached its highest level since the federal government began tracking these data in 1948, and the number of home foreclosures rose steeply as well (Andrews, 2009; Goodman, 2009). At the same time, domestic violence (DV) agencies began reporting increases in the number of calls they were receiving for help from battered women (e.g., Dethy, 2009; Smith, 2009).2 Such reports are perhaps not surprising given research that shows that among couples who report subjectively feeling high levels of financial strain the DV rate is 9.5% compared with 2.7% for couples who report ubjectively

feeling low levels of financial strain (Benson & Fox, 2004). But while these data suggest a strong direct association between economic stress and domestic violence, studies indicate that the relationship is reciprocal in nature. That is, while economic stress and hardship may increase the risk of domestic violence, domestic violence may also cause financial problems for DV survivors and entrap them in poverty and an abusive

relationship.

I don't think Nevada loves Reid, but the GOP would do a better job of getting rid of him if they didn't put up nutcases to oppose him. That last crazy woman? I would have voted for Reid, and I don't even like the guy.

As a side note, Harry Reid has got to have the most boring, worst public speaking voice for a politician that I have ever heard.

I guess you don't remember Ross Perot.

Bad voice, but not as bad as Reid.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) broke "a number of ribs and bones in his face" after an accident that occurred while he was exercising at home, his office said in a statement Friday.

Reid, who is expected to make a full recovery, was taken to St. Rose Dominican Hospital in Nevada and later transferred to another medical center and "admitted overnight as a precaution." Reid is expected to return to Washington this weekend and resume work on Tuesday.

On Thursday, Senator Reid received treatment at University Medical Center in Las Vegas for injuries sustained in an accident he suffered while exercising at home in Henderson.
A piece of equipment Senator Reid was using to exercise broke, causing him to fall and break a number of ribs and bones in his face.
Senator Reid will return to Washington this weekend and be in the office Tuesday as the Senate prepares to reconvene. His doctors expect a full recovery.
Senator Reid was first brought to St. Rose Dominican Hospital in Henderson by his security detail. He was then transferred to UMC for further testing, where he was admitted overnight as a precaution.

The guy will be what? 76? 77 by then? You start losing cognitive ability at 60 (some studies show earlier). Obviously experience can make up for that, but when you are pushing 80 it's time to retire.

I've never been able to stand the guy, but history will reflect that he's been the most effective Senator since Lyndon Johnson in terms of keeping his own party United behind him.

I think it's interesting that the GOP just squeezed out our nation's first Congressional budget in 6+ years.

It's possible that Reid has been a big part of the problem for the Democrats and Republicans.
