Is it safe to say the Tatum Bell experiment is over ? (1 Viewer)

Tatum has done nothing - absolutley nothing and he is completley the wrong fit for that offense with his lack of recieving skills.

You saw even last week Bell toting the rock and KJ there was a huge difference in talent. I just Hope Martz decides to scrap the 2 back approach sooner than later as its obvious who the better fit for the offense is and with Detroits o line struggling they need KJ in there anyway to take all the dump offs.

I am having a feeling KJ is going to be a really nice play really soon.

Get him while the price is low sharks - becasue he will be a GREAT #3 RB or Flex player ( who IMO will perform like a high end 2 )

Code:
ETA - or is this all part of an elaborate Shanny ploy to motivate Bell ?

I was listening to an interview with a local beat writer for the Lions this weekend, and they said that the team knew that Jones was the better back long term, but that they would split carries for a few more weeks because Jones can't handle 20+ carries without his foot getting sore. I think the best play to make is to wait another week or two before trading for Jones, and for current Jones owners to hang onto him and consider him an RB3 or RB4. I really like his chances to blow up late in the season.

I don't think it was ever an experiment so much as it was biding time until their starter returned from injury.

unfortunately his price isnt that low. The time to get him was back in week 1

I think the time to deal for KJ was 2-3 weeks ago. Most KJ owners won't deal him at this point unless the price is right. I'd expect him to get the majority of RB touches after the bye. He pretty much insinutated as much after the game yesterday.

He who? Jones? Martz? Marinelli? What did he say during the "insinuation"?

Thanks!

LANDOVER, Md. -- In the first half of Sunday's 34-3 loss to the Redskins, Lions running back Kevin Jones barely saw the field and didn't touch the ball.

But in the second half, he had 11 carries for 48 yards and two catches for 17 yards.

Asked about the way he was used in the first half, Jones said: "I don't agree with that. I think I need to be in there consistently getting touches so I can get into the rhythm of the game."

Coach Rod Marinelli said the Lions stuck to their rotation and the decision was based on Jones' health.

This was Jones' third game since he suffered a serious foot injury Dec. 10 last season against Minnesota.

Jones said he wasn't 100% yet, but added: "I'm good enough to play and good enough to get the ball." Talking about how he played in the second half, Jones said: "Hopefully that shows them that I can go."

Wide receiver Calvin Johnson also saw limited action after sitting out last week with a bruised lower back. He caught only one pass for three yards and came out late in the game when his back stiffened.

Asked if it was time to play Jones and Johnson full-time, Marinelli said: "I think you have to see how they are health-wise. That's always the issue. Health is the issue."

The time to deal for him is 2-3 weeks from now, when he still hasn't performed for his owners and it still seems like a maddening RBBC. I think his value will go back down between now and then.

Bell is worse than I thought he would be..I was actually excited when we traded for him, now I see why he could never take the full time job in Denver.

Can`t pass block, can`t catch, can`t break tackles, has an occasional good run..but fumbles too much. That is Tatum Bell in a nutshell!

I shall be immature and take the opportunity to laugh at all those who thought TBell was going to do anything.

Ha!

He was just a stop-gap to get them by until Jones got healthy.

You might see Duckett more when Jones gets healthy, because Bell will then be redundant.

Mike Martz is possibly the most clueless offensive coordinator in the history of the league. The fact that he is apparently deathly allergic to establishing a running game allows defenses to T-off on the QB, couple that with the fact that the patterns he sends the WRs are typically deeper and take time to develop and you have a recipe for disaster. I hope Kitna's health and life insurance policies are up to date.

KJ has a bye next week, so his value may dip some between now and week 7. In week 7 he faces a TB defense giving up 124 rushing yards a game. I would be very, very surprised if he isn't averaging about 18 touches a game from week 7 on. After his week 7 game you'll being buying high.ETA: I'll also be very, very surprised if Bell is averaging more than 5 touches a game from week 7 on.

Detroit needs KJ for the simple reason Kitna needs a dump off guy becasue he is getting killed from lack of pass blocking.

After Week 6 and IF KJ is healthy

I can see a 80 yds ru 5 rec 40 yds rec .8 TD's a game from KJ

Jones might reclaim starting RB spot

The Lions have a bye Sunday.

Coach Rod Marinelli would not commit to a change when asked about the tailback spot at his weekly Monday news conference.

"That's something we'll have a chance to look at and again see where Kevin is health-wise," Marinelli said. "I know he's sore right now, but he's a dynamite runner."
Having played in the offense last year gives Jones an edge.

"He's been in it longer," quarterback Jon Kitna said. "That's always going to help you. When he plays, he's dynamite. He doesn't seem to have any effect on his foot when he's going full speed."

One issue for Jones is how well he can handle the soreness that comes from playing and extended practice time.

Seems weird, the coach and the QB using the same words regarding KJ. As if it has been discussed. It seems like all signs are pointing towards KJ starting week 7. He's looking like a decent RB start in FF, based on his production in limited touches thus far.

The only success the Lions had moving the ball against Washington was with KJ. His running was the only somewhat bright spot on an otherwise disastrous offensive day.
