Is Larry Johnson Going To Be a Top 5 RB For Many Years? (1 Viewer)

Chiefs :: RB

RB L. Johnson's Carries Don't Worry HC Edwards

Doug Tucker, Associated Press - [Full Article]

With 34 carries in the Chiefs' victory over Denver, RB Larry Johnson raised his yardage total to 1,202 on 282 carries. That's an average of almost 26 carries a game, which projects over a season to about 410, which would tie the NFL record. But HC Herman Edwards is not concerned one bit. "I'm not going to wear him out," Edwards said Friday. "That's what good runners want. They want the ball. Larry made the statement earlier in the season he doesn't get warmed up until after about 25 carries. You ask for something, and you get it."

:loco: If LJ finishes the year with 410 carries and about 50 receptions, I will not be very optimistic about 2007 :angry: I might consider trading LJ. For this year however, he is probably fine.

Long-term, I think this is a very bad move from Herm.

Of course the RB wants the ball. They are not paid to ask to be kept fresh.

If KC wins the SB, I could care less about 2007. I look at thing as a KC fan more than a FF perspective, so take what i say in that light.

IMO that's just ridiculously arbitrary.He had 343 carries last year - and they came much more bunched together.

He looks pretty good to me.

380 or 410, it really isn't that big of a difference. As I said, people just get hung up on arbitrary numbers. Over 400's real bad but under (say 380) is so much better. What, a game's worth? What about LT who definitely be in the postseason and likely to get an extra 25+ totes, minimum.

LJ will be fine. Top-2 this year, and he'll be somewhere up top next year.

No need to argue, we'll see. Even if he does well in 2007, with that kind of workload, chances are he won't do so well in 2008, let alone 2009. My whole point is that unless things change, his career as a top RB will be very short. The stud of studs have 7-8 elite years, LJ will not sniff that unless Herm changes his ways. But that is just from a dynasty perspective. If the Chiefs have a shot at the SB, then go for it, it's in the Chiefs' best interest, even though it might not be in my own interest, but who cares :D

Throughout this thread, you seem to ignore historical facts. You might be right, you might be wrong, we can agree to disagree.

LJ is not a young player. He came out of college a little older than most RBs and sat on the bench behind Holmes. Best to use him now. Youth brings energy and the ability to recover from injuries. Important assets for NFL RBs.
