Is Pence+Morneau >= Pujols (1 Viewer)

I'm entertaining a trade offer of Pence and Morneau for my Pujols. Morneau and Pence work out to be the 29th and 32nd best hitter in my rankings and Pujols ends up at 11. I know Morneau tanked the last 2 months of 2007 and Pence could easily have a sophmore slump but is that risk negligible considering Pujols own risk?

Is this something i should jump on? I would also be giving up one of the 3, Ankiel, Hall, or Kearns.

--------------------

12-team H2H

R, H, HR, RBI, SB, BB, K, TB, AVG, OPS,

W, L, CG, SHO, SV, OUT, K, ERA, WHIP

C - Varitek

1 - Pujols

2 - Utley

3 - Beltre

SS - Tejada

OF - ManRam, Berkman, Hermida

Util - D. Lee

Bench - Kearns, Ankiel, Bill Hall

SP - Snell, J. Vazquez, J. Shields, McGowan, Rich Hill, Greinke, Arroyo --- RP - Lidge, Capps

No, it makes no sense at all

The idea is to end up with the best overall player, not 2 middle of the road players.

The crux of the issue is Pujol's health. I'm not a fan of trading the best player away but Pujol's has to be the biggest question mark this year. Alot of the "smart" people seem to be staying away from him and has fallen pretty far in some drafts. I just figure if i'm to trade him, now may be the best time with him doing well in ST.

And in response to ending up with the best overall player i think it would be extremely difficult in this instance to get any of the other players i have rated higher then him.

Have you tried?

Have you tried?
Alright lets list the guys i have ahead of Pujols.ARod - Haven't tried... figured that would be pointless. I could try Pujols+Beltre+pitcher.Holliday - Tried... too hardOrtiz - Not too sure if i would rather have Pujols. Reyes - Won't happenWright - Might be able to get Wright in a trade. MCab - Already got rejected in 2 different deals with no countersHoward - Another player i might be able to get if i tried. Utley - I own. Rollins - Owner never trades. So in all fairness i guess i haven't tried as hard as i could but I have tried.

Depends on the rest of your team. Who is Pence replacing in your lineup? What are your bats' current weaknesses? Would you consider your pitching strong? I believe the most important item to address is who would Pence be replacing in your lineup.

He would be replacing Hermida who already is dinged up. Also i have a rotation of Ankiel, Bill Hall, and Kearns who could take that spot. I have Pence as a definite upgrade to all of those players, BUT all of them save Hall i have as players with potential this year. And now to answer your other questions.Weaknesses - well imy biggest weakness is SB's since i have virtually none. I am basically just gonna punt this though. My team also K's quite a bit except for Pujols and Tejada. Pitching - My starting pitching is eh. By no means is it good but i wouldn't consider it in the bottom half either. My saves guys were already weak enough without Lidge going out but i typically don't worry about that and i can usually patch that up throughout the season.I'm just in a quandry in what to do with Pujols. It's also a non-keeper league.

The only reservation I'd have with this deal is how do you patch your starting pitching if you deal Pujols? It is exceedingly difficult to win a league if a category is punted as you're doing with SB's, if you're hurting elsewhere your season is done. If you think you can get by finishing an average of 3rd in your other pitching cats and can dominate hitting I'd do this. Pence is a huge upgrade in the OF, enough of one to justify dealing away the Pujols risk in this sort of deal. If you don't think your current staff can accumulate an average of 3rd in each cat I'd stay put, roll the dice, and pray Pujols stays healthy and you're able to find a replacement OF along the way. I would strongly consider a platoon if you choose this option.

Quick question. Are you basing this on H2H? Also this league is a little screwy. Technically this really is a 10X7 league because two of our pitching cats are SHO and CG (lame i know). So this league is very hittercentric where SB's are also devalued alot since there are 10 cats. Typically what i do in this league is load up on hitting punt saves and just win K's,Wins, and IP's cats per week and pray for the WHIP and ERA cat. So i usually go 3-4 at worst on a week to week basis for pitching. Does this change your perspective a little bit? ALSO i just received another offer of Teixeira and Zimmerman for Pujols and Beltre which seems like it might be a much better deal.

I was assuming a roto, I'd be a lot more willing to deal Pujols in a H2H as his stats in June and July mean a lot less, if he's shut down early you're hurting bad in the playoffs. Having never played in a league like that take this all with a grain of salt, but I find it much easier to get away with punting cats in a H2H. I don't like to do it, but I will if necessary. I am lagging at SB's in both of mine, but am one deal away from being competitive and will make a move if deemed necessary or the opportunity presents itself...or I'll deal away all my SB guys and upgrade everywhere else. We'll see.Anyway, yes this changes my perspective, I would certainly take that deal then...until you added that gem. I like that deal even more, I think Zimmerman outproduces his draft position and Tex becomes a 1st rounder in 09. Still look for an opportunity to upgrade in the OF at some point, but the Tex/Zimmerman deal is certainly better than your other offer.

I think I may be apt to make the deal if Pence filled a need. Morneau may wind up eclipsing Pujols this year if Albert shuts it down which many are suggesting

Not sure if I'd make that trade but Pence and Morneau are both top 50 guys with an upside. They are not "middle of the road."
An owner is tentatively offering me Teixera and Zimmerman for Pujols and Beltre. Should i jump on that?
I'd probably ask for more than that. I love Zimmerman a lot, but Pujols is a once in a gneration player with a bum elbow who guys are trying to get at a discount. I have Pujols in an "important" internet dynasty league and I would have to get a serious bonus to trade him. That offers no bonus IMO.

I wouldn't. Me thinks

Pence + Morneau + Beltre > Pujols + Zim. You have corner infielders, correct? I actually like Beltre a bit this year as well
Bleh.... well does Beltre's torn ligament in his left wrist change anything now? http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6039/news
