It seems to me it is not at all about the running back it's much more about the O LIne and a great O line makes just about any back look good and a bad one has the same effect - unless your RB is Barry Sanders. Last season Take the best RB last year in Petersen -- C. Taylor steps in when he's hurt and they don't miss a beat. Look at the Denver Bronco RB's over the years , San Diego - granted LT is great but Hell Turner looked pretty damn good too.. KC when Blacklock looked like an all pro behind that line. IMO it just seems that spending a 1st round pick on a RB is useless unless he is a LT / Walter / or Barry type of RB as they seem really interchangable now a days. Look at the Giants damn every back looked about equal on that team.
QB's - if they suck your offense sucks
WR's -- if they suck you better have a all world QB or you will have no passing game.
Oline - if they suck you offense sucks as well.
Dline -- you can't pressure or stop the run your team can't stop anyone
LB - see above and add short coverage
DB's - you can't cover teams can pass on you all day.
I just think aside from Punter and kicker -- Running back is the most interchangable position and hardly ever wrhty of a high draft pick when you can take a guy rather late or even in FA that will likely end up just as good for you.
