Is the AFC South the best division in football? (1 Viewer)

if the improvements that the texans and titans appear to have made are not a mirage, aren't we looking at the only division in football with 4 quality teams?

the jags just went into invesco field and punched the broncos in the mouth, and it's possible they could end up in last place in the AFC south.

almost every other division has a cupcake or 2.

at this point, i'd call the NFC East the best division, but the AFC South looks like it could be right there with them. it doesn't look like any other division is really close to those 2 right now.

the afc east is mostly garbage, outside of the pats.

the afc north has the browns. the bengals don't play defense, and i'm not sold on the ravens.

the afc west has the chiefs. the broncos and chargers don't appear as good as people expected.

the nfc south is looking like garbage.

the nfc west is still the nfc west.

the nfc north has some teams moving in the right direction, but their certainly not the best.

where the divisions rank is certainly subjective, but the AFC South seems to building the right way (every team plays pretty good defense), and it's nice to see.

it's weird to think the AFC South may be the best division, but i think we have to start considering the possibilty at least.

not only is it the only division where every team has a decent defense (at least), it's also one of the few divisions in which every team has a competent QB.

(garrard still has things to prove, but he's played outstanding so far this year)

The NFC South actually has competent QB's. The argument can be made against Harrington, but in that passing scheme, he's at least "competent".

i agree. there are other divisions with 4 competent QBs (that's why i said "one of the few").the NFC East, for example, has 4 good-to-great QBs.

I think the Titans will be a WC team, assuming the Colts win the division. The Titans have a ferocious front 4 on defense that will give most teams fits. I don't think the Texans are quite at the Titans level yet, and that is partially because of injuries, and partially because of youth. I still can't figure out the Jags yet - they'll probably win a couple games they shouldn't and lose a couple of games they shouldn't.

You are wise but for the NFC West statement. They are the most improved division assuming the Rams are exhibiting an injury aberation. While they appear to lack a top team they also lack a bottom feeder. So, no they don't have an Indianapolis and are similarly solid like the AFC South.

Tennessee and Houston would kill those teams.

You're kidding me, Campbell is mediocre at best. He's improving but to call him good to great is beyond a stretch.Eli Manning's been on the hot seat for a year. He's playing well but I'd call him average to good.McNabb-SolidRomo-Solid

Pace is out for the year. If the Rams are not a bottom feeder at this point then I am not sure what is. I would take the Jags over a Paceless Rams team any day of the week. These two divisions do not compare, in my mind.

Until an AFC South team gets a loss to anyone outside of the division...I think it's pretty safe to say they are the "hottest" divison at the moment.

Code:
Team	W L Pct Div Pct	Non-ConfColts 3 0 1.000 2-0 1.000 1-0 Titans	2 1 .667 1-1 .500	1-0Texans 2 1 .667	0-1 .000	1-0Jaguars 2 1 .667 0-1 .000	1-0
Bah, never can get that to work right. Anyway, the point being that all the AFC South teams combined losses have been vs. other AFC South teams. In other words, AFC South vs. the rest of the NFL (as of week3) is 6-0.
