Is the Chiefs DEF for real? (1 Viewer)

In my 12 Team redraft league, The Chiefs DEF have posted 13, 14, & 12 points through Weeks 1 to 3. Obviously, not so well against the Colts in Week 5 but I doubt too many teams DEF have a field day with Manning & co to start off with.

Whie I have the Chargers DEF who have done quite well for me in recent weeks, I convinced myself that with the Chiefs upcoming schedule, (Jaguars, Bills, Raiders, 2x Broncos, Cardinals, Seahawks, Rams), I figured they would be worth being picked up now before somebody else lucks out on them and beats me with that DEF in the upcoming weeks.

Anybody else starting to believe in them as a rosterable DEF?

Rosterable?....they are my sole DST in both my leagues right now. Great schedule, playmakers in secondary/return game, great coordinator, been thru their bye.

In Romeo we trust.......

I picked them up to pair with Baltimore D, dropped Chicago D to get them. I'm happy to have them but only made the move because both of my D's had the same Bye. I also like their schedule, which is why I took them over the Titans D.

Also held Peyton without a TD pass and INDY to 4 FG's AT HOME till a late td by Hart

Enough to convince me

I picked them up last week to play them for the rest of the year. They have a great return game and Romeo has them playing very tough football.

Chiefs CB Brandon Flowers has allowed just 81 yards on 31 targets this season, good for a ridiculously low 2.6 yards per attempt figure.

Meet the NFL's newest shutdown corner. To put Flowers' numbers in perspective, he's averaging a full yard less per attempt than Darrelle Revis allowed last season. Two writers from the stats-based website Profootballfocus.com have Flowers in the running for NFL MVP through five weeks. He'll travel to Houston Sunday to take on Andre Johnson. Flowers Island?

The comments from the Chiefs fan here before the Colts game, and then the game itself when, yep, sure enough they looked like the old Pats locking down Manning.... that sold me. Picked them up. Not sure if they're a good start this week @HOU but I'm holding `til the week after and maybe beyond.

I tried not to put too much stock in the Indy game, because Romeo's scheme of dropping 8 back has always had Peyton's number. Still, they looked solid and do have playmakers, including the return game. Picked them up and will ride out their schedule. I own Foster, so a little mixed about the Texan game. But Schaub can throw some picks.. Like others - betting on Romeo.

They're the real deal. It shocks me that they're still available in many leagues, but people are slowly waking up and realizing they aren't just a team that caught a few lucky breaks. I dropped the over-hyped under-performing San Fran D for them two weeks ago.

I like them but they're middle of the pack for my league. Maybe slightly above average. The Pats and Lions have outscored them by more than 25 points so far.

The truth probably lies somewhere in the middle. VERY much improved, but I think they've played above their talent level to some degree (which doesn't mean they can't continue to do so). They shouldn't be available on your league's wire right now regardless.

Flowers gave up 6 catches and 57 yards to Garcon, who he covered most of the game. Andre Johnson is a much superior talent to Garcon, who was even coming off his first game back from injury. Let's see what Flowers does this weekend (all tho he may cover Walter)

u kept the wrong d
:lmao: Chicago D second only to Pittsburgh.Although I did pick up KC D to fill in for Chicago during their bye week. KC plays Buffalo in week 8.

The Lions haven't had a BYE, and the Patriots had one monster game against the Dolphins. They are top 10 in my league based on average points per week.

I feared I was when I made the move and now truly regret it after hearing I did from at least two other people. Oh well. Baltimore D was ranked significantly higher than Chicago D in the preseason so I guess I trusted the preseason rankings and didn't allow myself to get caught up on how well they've performed in a couple of the weeks so far this season.

Pats also had a big week 1. In our scoring they had something like 24, 8, 5, 32. The Chiefs are more like 13, 13, 10, 10. Not exact scores but ballpark. We get 1 point for every 25 return yards. Pats have around 630 return yards, pretty much all KR. The Chiefs have around 500 total return yards and it's split pretty evenly between KR/PR.There's something to be said for consistency I guess but the Pats seem to be making a lot of big plays. Neither team is getting many sacks.Still deciding which I'd rather roll with since they both have had their bye.

:lmao: I dropped the under-performing Cincy D & picked up Chiefs prior to the Indy game, pairing them w/ the Bears....pretty decent combo.

Interesting you bring up Flowers. Check this stat.

Flowers has been targeted 31 times and has only given up 81 yards on those targets which averages out to 2.6 yards. Last year Revis' average was 3.6 yards.

Now I'm not ready to say Flowers is on Revis' level, but that's pretty damned impressive.

With BYE weeks you need to look at AVERAGE points. Through 5 weeks in my league (sorry for the formatting):

Depends on your league's scoring system - which always seems more variable for Def/ST. In my league the Chief's defense is tied for first place with the Steelers for overall fantasy points.

Very true... In my league's scoring, the Chiefs are only 14th best in avg weekly score...but I still picked them up & like them to pair w/ the Bears. I'll likely start them every home game, unless I'm lucky enough to make it to week 16 when they host Titans.

 Flowers is rapidly approaching elite status

No he didn't. Bad posting here. He's given up like 80 yards all YEAR. You obviously haven't watched, but do you really think he's given up 60 yards to Garcon and 20 yards in three other full games? Really?
Malcom Floyd did nothing week 1. Then he played the garbage browns week 2. Then Michael Crabtree week 3 when he was still busy doing nothing. So yes i believe it.

Oh I own balt d (and drafted them over CHI) but JUlius peppers is such a nice fit for that team. THey are churning up sacks and producing tos. Now if only cutler can get his head out his ###.I am liking the KC D idea. A little reticent to start vs HOU on road.

My thought here is that the Chiefs have been remarkably consistent whereas many of the teams above have had as single big game while not having had to play the Colts to bring their average down (and I'd bet teams like the Hawks and Cards would not have pulled out a decent showing like the Chiefs did against them).

In my primary league the Jets are right along side the Chiefs in FF points, with a similar consistency and a single game that brought their average down.
