Shaun Alexander-RB-Seahawks Sep. 25 - 5:52 pm et

Shaun Alexander will miss at least a few weeks with a "cracked foot."

Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren confirmed the injury Monday and said Alexander could miss a month. Maurice Morris takes over as Seattle's top running back. There's no set timetable for Alexander to return, but he should at least be out until Week 6, when Seattle returns from their bye.

Ok, so year after year we see the Madden cover boys go down with injuries and pretty much ruin their year. Here's my question....if you were a STAR football player and were offered the Madden cover, would you take it?

I'd run as far away faster then he could chase me down in his bus. But thats just me! :bag:

If it pays me money I would take it. Do you believe in the tooth fairy too?

not that i buy into this silly crap, but can someone list what has transpired with this curse to give it any legitimacy?

I havent played a sports video game since tecmo bowl

:bag:

In 2001, Tennessee Titans running back Eddie George was the first player on the cover of the game. That was the first season George failed to rush for a 1,000 yards. He also had a then-career low 5 touchdowns.

In 2002, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Daunte Culpepper became the poster child for the Madden jinx. That season Culpepper played in just 11 games and threw 19 interceptions. The previous season, Culpepper threw 40 TDs and did not miss a game.

In 2003, EA Sports featured St. Louis Rams running back Marshall Faulk on the cover. The previous season, Faulk amassed more than 2000 total yards and scored 21 touchdowns. After the cover, Faulk's touchdown total dropped to 10, and he had less than 1500 total yards.

In 2004, Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Vick was the new face of the Madden franchise. Vick broke his leg that preseason and missed most of the season. The previous year, Vick passed for more than 3,000 yards, and ran for more than 700 yards.

Last season, Philadelphia Eagles QB Donovan McNabb turned into the latest victim of the Madden jinx. The previous season McNabb guided Philadelphia to a Super Bowl berth. Philadelphia had reached the NFC Championship game the previous four seasons. Last year, the Eagles missed the playoffs, and McNabb played in only nine games due to injury.

Its troo

Madden 2000 - Barry Sanders - Retires before training camp even starts

Madden 2001 - Eddie George - One anomaly, had best season of career

Madden 2002 - Daunte Culpepper - Went from 11-5 to 5-11, got shelved with knee injury

Madden 2003 - Marshall Faulk - Went from 14-2 to 7-9, got injured

Madden 2004 - Michael Vick - Went from 9-6-1 to 5-11, got injured in preseason

Madden 2005 - Ray Lewis - Went from 10-6 to 9-7, missed playoffs, got injured, general piss-poor season

Madden 2006 - Donovan McNabb - Went from 13-3 to 6-10, got injured

Madden 2007 - Shaun Alexander [blank], got injured

At the very least, gracing the cover of Madden is certain to get you injured.

EDIT: Got beaten to it by a minute -_-

Madden should put Favre on the cover of Madden '08. The legend retires, Madden gives his ultimate man-crush one last tribute, and nobody gets hurt.

In 1998, Garrison Heart was on the cover. (No injury in 1998, but missed all of 1999.)In 1999, Barry Sanders was on the cover. (Retired unexpectedly.)In 2000, Eddie George was on the cover. (No injuries.)In 2001, Daunte Culpepper was on the cover. (Missed five games due to injury.)In 2002, Marshall Faulk was on the cover. (Missed two games due to injury; huge fall-off in production.)In 2003, Michael Vick was on the cover. (Missed 11 games due to injury.)In 2004, Ray Lewis was on the cover. (Made it through regular season, but missed Pro Bowl with broken wrist.)In 2005, Donovan McNabb was on the cover. (Missed seven games due to injury.)In 2006, Shaun Alexander is on the cover . . .Edit: I'm too slow.

The news sportscaster here in Cleveland stated Alexander was out for the season. Any truth to this? or purely speculation on his part.

Let's look at possible canidates for Madden 08 cover

If Madden will add to the Offense:

LJ

Bush

LT

If Madden will add to the Defense:

M. Barber

Urlacher

Correlation is not causation. No such thing a curse.
I would say the same thing about this 3rd Year WR Breakout Season poppycock.

wow... Don't mess with Madden.
:scared:This year I could finally stand it no more, and drafted Maurice Morris in the middle rounds ahead of the Shaun Alexander owners in two leagues. "C/C+" move at the time, but gol dangit if I didn't just inherit a third starting RB and/or some serious trade collateral in two "expert" leagues this afternoon..... :devil:I'm not a believer in curses and such, but the Madden cover has quite the quantity of "evidence" over the past several years to make me start to think twice about the Bermuda Triangle, alien abductions, et al. :D

I don't believe in a jinx

BUT

i passed on alexander at 1 and I would be lying if i said madden didn't enter my mind

why tempt fate?

i passed and I am glad

Passed on Alexander at #3 for Portis (pre-injury of course) and have been ridiculed relentlessly since then up until Portis' performance this past weekend. Now this.

And yes, the Madden curse played a decent role in my decision. That along with the Superbowl curse, the chunky soup curse, the never been seriously injured curse, the way overworked curse, the 28 TDs last year curse, the no Steve Hutchenson curse and last but not least, the Shaun Alexander's running style is terribly boring curse.

Needless to say I'm happy with my decision now.

Sorry SA owners, but that's what you get for tempting fate.
