Is There Anything to Prevent (1 Viewer)

Let's say a bunch of really good palyers who have more money than sense, decide it would be fun to conglomerate their talent on to one team. Obviously they would have to be fre eagents - but lets say their current team offers them $15M per, could they agree to go to another team offering significantly less just because they want to play with a different group of players? I know it isn't the way things work - but I was thinking about guys like Buerhle who have said they wanted to play for the Cardinals. Obviously we can't pay him what he would make in a major market - but if he really wanted to play for the Cardinals is there anything precluding that type of decision (other than his sanity)?

I got to thinking a group of multimillionaires that wanted to could just choose a city (if they were all free agents) and decide they were all going to play there for a buck each.

How is this different from what happens now? Teixeira turned down more money from the Nats. Cliff Lee turned down more money from the Rangers. They have not accepted a buck each, but players have turned down money to instead play where they think they have a better shot at winning a title.

I think the players' union has more influence than we think. They always pressure players to accept the highest-$$$ deal, or at least come close. It doesn't always happen but I don't think they'd support a bunch of players accepting short term deals way under market value.

It would have to be veteran players who have already made plenty of $$$. I don't see Prince Fielder giving up his first big payday to do this.

PS> It did happen in Sparky Lyle's "The Year I Owned the Yankees" which is a very underrated book :)
